Scout Picks

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 2 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

The final selection is partly based on the Scout Squad consensus picks but budgetary constraints and injury updates from the pre-match press conferences are all factored in, too.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation this week and, as ever, are limited to £83.0m for our first XI.

At the same time as our Scout Picks are going live, we’ve also got a special Members-only video with Mark Sutherns and Andy North airing over on our YouTube channel.

Subscribers can view that in the embedded video below.

SCOUT PICKS CHANGES FOR 2022/23

While the maximum starting XI budget remains the same, there has been a slight change to how we nominate substitutes following our on-site poll.

FPL Gameweek 1 Scout Picks:

As a result, given that our starting XI costs £82.8m, we have £17.2m to spend on the four substitutes you see on our Scout Picks graphic.

However, in an attempt to please both crowds (the poll was extremely tight after all), we’ll be giving some slightly more expensive alternative, viable budget options below, who in most cases, carry a bit more potential in the upcoming round.

GOALKEEPER

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Double Gameweek 37 Free Hit 4

Despite underwhelming last time out, Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) was selected by all four of our Scout Squad panel ahead of his home meeting with Everton. Aston Villa conceded two goals from set-plays at Bournemouth in Gameweek 1, but under Steven Gerrard, have largely been a decent defensive unit. Indeed, they ranked a very respectable eighth for goals conceded from his appointment onwards in 2021/22. Everton, meanwhile, were sluggish in attack against Chelsea and will once again be without the influential Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m).

Would you start Saliba (home to LEI) or Trippier (away to BHA)?

Thank you for your input. Much appreciated.

Trippier for his ability to get points at both ends of the pitch. Although I'm playing both Trippier and Gabriel.

Saliba. Anyone who watched him vs Palace?

He would not be 4.5 if he had played for Arsenal last season.

He is going to make a mokery of that price if he keeps it up.

They played Forest at home. BHA away is a different kettle of fish.

Saliba got 2 bonus points and Palace away is not an easy fixture.

FPL towers have under priced Saliba. At 4.5 starting defender in a team which will keep clean sheets and he could get involved in scoring from corners as he is a tower. Yes please.

Yes, all stats should be considered with context -- thanks for putting it out there.

Its a difficult call, so I preferred to let the OP decide for themselves (with a little bit more information) instead of giving an opinion myself.

The eye test is also information. I saw his performance.

If Trippier was at home this GW and Arsenal were away, I would have gone Trippier.

I don't own Trippier so I have to play Saliba. If I owned both and had to choose, I would still go Saliba.

am a 20 years gooner i still gonna choose trippier over saliba. if i do have the 0.5 in ma bank.
I m pretty sure trippier and saliba if both stayed fit, trippier will have more points over the season. newcastle is pretty solid too this season. and arsenal was effing close to not keep that cs against palace.

Foo i think u hyped up saliba a bit too much

I would keep Ward and play him GW3.

The point gain from a GK transfer isn’t great, especially right now. Hold off and see what GW3 brings.

More likely to do the move GW4.

      Sanchez is a good option.

            • 8 Years

Chelsea fan! I underestimated the impact of Wolves moving to a back 4! I think I got a lot right with my team, but Ait isn’t one. Have to hope I get something from tomorrow.

I chose Alisson specifically because I went with cheap defence and had Saliba which ruled out Ramsdale. I won’t be using FT’s for that.

Ait-Nouri replacements are being monitored closely. I can get away with it GW3 using either Neco or Patterson (Coleman back so I will monitor).

Dunk is a good pick, but he’s been awful in the past for me with own goals. I wish Brighton had a good wing back at 4.5. Others include Tarkowski and Dalot.

I think it’s one of those moves that could go both ways.

      Foden benching, Mount goal.

GW 3 Mount has Leeds. Great fixture. Mount has great history against them.

Mount was under-utilised last game completely. I’m sure it will change this weekend.

I’d hold, personally. But, I wouldn’t say the move is bad.

I think better use of FT’s right now. So hold.

Mount owner here...and u touched on a great point. Under-utilized.

I see these players as dangerous for out expectations. They are squad players, they are awesome and coach trust more tasks on them. That impacts negatively out asset fpl wise. He have a blanket of nailed player but used to best serve of team.

Saka and Martinelli the same issue. Saka is a more important player to Arsenal succes, but this last GW he was assigned to babysitting White (because of zaha).

We need to "wait" on this type of players, the high profile Ward-Prowses. Trust, solid, long term

Big gameweek for big at the back I reckon.

Itchy fingers and wobbly knees if Sessegnon starts and plays well, and Liverpool fail to keep a CS with Gomez starting most likely. James with a tough game too.

    1. mcsteely

Personally because I picked a risky team gw1 with no premium striker and no way to get one without a -8, thinking haaland wouldn’t bed in right away. When he scored a brace it was clear I had to pivot to a new plan

    2. banskt

Early gains in point and team value by hopping on the bandwagons is another reason to WC early. Higher team value can be translated to higher points in the later stages of the game, but it is more difficult than it sounds.

Scratch that, it is Jesus at 8.0 but still low.

I will get Kulu next week probably for Rashford and that will make it 8.1, but I will unlikely get anyone higher than those two.

WCed because of Darwin. Now looking like this:
    Pope-Ward
    TAA-Cancelo-Trippier-Saliba-Neco
    Salah-Grealish-Bailey-Andreas-DaSilva
    Haaland-Darwin-Jesus
Managed to get in before both price rises on the strikers. 0.5 itb, but slightly worried about the 8m midfielders. Considering Jesus + DaSilva -> Archer + Saka?

    1. RICICLE
      • 3 Years

You wildcarded just because of Darwin?
The midfield leaves a lot to be desired I must say. Downgrade a striker perhaps and bulk up a mid to an 8m

Not just because: also had Rashford, Villa triple-up, Kane, etc. I think I’ve made seven transfers in total.

Ahhh ok, though tit was solely because of Darwin haha!
Justified I guess then, just the midfield is a little too light for my liking, just means more moves and transfers to bulk it up down the line

You could have Martinelli for Bailey or Saka for Greaish if you are prepared to downgrade Pope to Sanchez and TAA to Robbo

Robbo looks very attacking so I think he is still being underrated. Sanchez and Brighton look great. Not much between him and Pope apart from the price

Trippier can become Walker or Ake if your moves leave you in need a third MC

How am I looking for this GW guys?

Did Kane > Haaland soon as the City game finished, not sure if anything is worth a hit I don’t think?

Bailey - Saka - Salah (vc) - Martinelli
    Jesus - Haaland (c)

I would not bet on Manchester players at this stage. Meaning, I would bench Rashford. But then, I wouldn't have Rashford in my team in the first place.

But, its your team and you picked Rashford for a reason -- meaning that you trust him to return points. Do you think Manchester can score against Brighton? If yes, then I would think Rashford has a good chance of being involved. So, ignore the advice of others and bench whoever you think will score the lowest.

Good reply. I picked him as a cut price oop striker. I’ll give him one more game. Bailey on bench.

I would bench Bailey. With all the trouble at Villa, a pathetic opening day performance, a manager who has hung the washing to dry in the press, I would not be confident about Bailey starting.
