Every Gameweek here at Fantasy Football Scout, we bring you analysis of the teams and chip usage of the leading Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers via the excellent LiveFPL website.

Usually we concentrate on the top 10,000 but we’re in the very early stages of the campaign and the front-runners are still jostling for position.

So instead, we’ll mostly take a quick look at how some of the FPL bosses with the best season histories are set up for Gameweek 2.

INTRODUCING THE ‘LEGENDARY MANAGERS’

Much like our very own Hall of Fame, the LiveFPL site features its own list of the leading 1,000 FPL managers of all time.

You can see the top 10 above, with a very familiar name at the top of the pile.

Other notable names you may recognise further down the list include Finn Sollie (2nd), John Canning (43rd), Pranil ‘Lateriser’ Sheth (52nd), Mark Sutherns (88th) and one of our new recruits for the 2022/23 season, Obay Eid (125th).

OWNERSHIP AND CAPTAINCY

How the all-time best FPL managers set up for Gameweek 2 2

One obvious thing to note is the rise in Erling Haaland‘s (£11.7m) ownership, which sat at 64.7% in Gameweek 1.

Harry Kane‘s (£11.4m) own ownership figure dropped from 35.6% to 5.6%, with the straight swap between the two forwards accounting for the majority of the 30% swing: 275 of the 1,000 managers featured here did that exact move.

The market movement was limited elsewhere, though, with over 60% of these bosses rolling a transfer. Expect the overall picture to be shaken up a bit more in Gameweek 3, when our hall of famers have two moves at their disposal.

Over two-thirds of them have a decision to be made over Leon Bailey (£5.0m) after the Aston Villa man’s benching in Gameweek 1, while 44% may be mulling over Pedro Neto‘s (£5.5m) output and short-term points prospects.

4-4-2 remains the most-selected formation, with over 90% owning a £4.5m forward of some variety and Andreas Pereira (£4.5m) sitting in 93.6% of squads. Neco Williams (£4.0m) is in almost two-thirds of these teams, meanwhile.

2.1% of these historic high achievers saw enough on the opening weekend to play their Wildcard and most of them – 18 of the 21 – shaped it around Darwin Nunez (£9.1m). Time will tell if that was a sage, bandwagon-beating move or an overreaction to the Uruguayan’s returns against Fulham.

While we’re not overly interested in the top 10k at this early stage, the average Wildcard played within this leading bunch shows a similar keen interest in Darwin and a move towards a lighter-in-midfield set-up:

Struggling to know what to do here. 2 FT and 0.5ITB. Resisted the Kane to Hauland switch in GW2

    Meslier, Ward
    TAA, Robbo, Cancelo, Trips, Neco
    Salah, Mount, Martinelli, KDH, Andreas
    Kane, Jesus, Archer

    a) Mount and Archer - Toney and GroB?
    b) Meslier - Hendo/Pope?
    c) Trips - Walker?

    Totally lost. Any suggestions?

    https://theathletic.com/3504644/2022/08/15/erling-haaland-eight-touches?source=user-shared-article

Good piece from The Athletic about Haaland's 8 touches against Bournemouth. Made a lot of good runs and it seemed City at times forgot how to play with a 9 with Gundogan often standing directly in front of or next to Haaland which further reduced his impact. Yet he still could (and probably should) have had 2 goals

yeah he's not there to get involved in the intricate build ups, he's the spearhead. Without touching the ball he's spreading panic and pulling defenders away. KDB could be the big winner in all of this.

Yeah it will take time, they have to be a lot more direct and a lot less tiki-taka than they have been the past 3 seasons.

    4. Eyes of Blue

He's occupying opposition centre halfs and creating more space for the midfielders than they ever had before with a false 9.

This is why stats such as touches and shots in the box can be misleading if you don't watch the games. He easily could have come out of that game with his (brilliant) assist and at least a goal or two, but from occasions when he didn't touch the ball so it won't show up on any stats.

To deal with Bailey and Neto thinking of switching some cash from defence into midfield - depends on game tonight but thoughts on these moves for -4 ?

    A Yes
    B No

    Robertson to Cuccurella/5m
    Bailey to L Díaz/8 m
    Neto to Reed/4.5

    Ramsdale
TAA Cancelo James Perisic Robertson *
    Salah Martinelli Neto*
    Haaland Jesus

    Ward Andreas Bailey * Archer

I don't think Neto is an issue yet. Getting in good positions and relatively nailed. Bailey is a much bigger problem.

Thanks. As long as press conference confirms he is ok to play that might be the play and burn transfer ( or if looks like price will drop take Bailey down to Andre Gomez who may be 4.4 by tomorrow and can be permanent 3rd on bench)

the problem is you then have two dead assets on the bench.

burning a transfer is tough when you have 2 and some issues.

    Quick question:

    Mount to KDB
    Haaland to Toney

I have this feeling Haaland is going to be flakey and KDB is consistent as
Toney has a one of the best runs of fixtures.

KDB should be reliable for points but so should Mount, who is now going on a good run of fixtures. There was nothing that happened on Saturday to suggest Haaland will be unreliable, he had an open goal to slot into within 10 mins that Foden extremely selfishly ignored and even with Bournemouth sitting so deep he still had a couple of chances

I'm not convinced. 0g1a last season in 30+ games, his assist and goal wouldn't happen against many sides, even the teams that will be facing relegation should defend far better than that. Lots of competition in that midfield, it seems Frank expects him to do more to aid the creative void left behind after Eriksen but not a given he'll play every game

I'd say not having James is one of the biggest problems you have to be honest. I wouldn't say Mount is a concern just yet, Leeds this weekend I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a return or 2. I would lean towards Robbo to James this week, bench Bailey for Pereira and deal with him next week.

I'm stuck without James too and downgrading Robbo is really my only way to get him... Seems like a transfer that could easily backfire but difficult.

Yep same. Robbo to James is my current plan for this week. I don't have any other Chelsea defenders either so I feel like I need that coverage. At least with Liverpool defence I've still got TAA.

That's true, but I'm committing to having 3 Liverpool players this whole season I think. So could shift Robbo to James and then Kulu to Diaz but again not fully convinced on that yet.

Practically the same squad as I posted below. Only move I like is Bailey > Dasilva to avoid the price drop - however I'd likely start Neco over him anyways.

Considering doing Mount to Kulu, but it seems like a sideways move since they both have great short term fixtures.

If you have 1FT, roll. If 2, Bailey > Dasilva

Yeah, he's certainly not someone who will start every single game I don't think. Koulibaly could be a better option for slightly more?

(Annoyingly I went for Walker in for Cash last night to catch the price rise, but then saw the comments about Chilwell not being fit this morning which makes Curcurella more tempting!)

1FT - 0.3m ITB. What to do with this lot? Think the squads in good enough shape for GW3, however Bailey will be a certain price drop.

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Robbo - Cancelo - Dunk - Neco

Not enough funds there. Took a hit to bring him in to allow Kane > Haaland. TAA/Robbo look my only way of getting James in. Might have to settle for Cucu until I WC

I think if you have Mount, you have to give him at least the Leeds game. Chelsea's fixtures looks great. Also not confident that Da Silva will continue this form, and there is also a risk in terms of his minutes when you consider Brentford's latest signings

Same, think I'll be giving him at least another couple weeks - especially with no other Chelsea coverage

Jack Colback (Forest), flagged with illness atm - but will he be back nailed on?

Nah almost certainly not, they've made a raft of signings in midfield and have Yates to come back from injury as well.

Exact money to do Ait-Nouri, Bailey to James and 4.4 for a hit. Would you do it?
Would mean playing one of Neco or Andreas each week....

Was thinking of Cucurella in but does anyone know how long he'll be out for? Premier league injuries has wig pulled off at an average of 2 weeks recovery time

I’ll see how Robertson and Núñez do today but considering this aggressive move:

    A. Robertson + Saka + Archer ➡️ Patterson + Martinelli + Núñez (-4)

Also considering these more sensible options:

    B. Williams + Bailey ➡️ 4.5 defender + Lavia
    C. Robertson + Bailey ➡️ Díaz + 4.5 defender
    D. Bailey ➡️ Jensen

Current team (2 FT 0.0 ITB like most):
    Sánchez // Ward
Trent Robertson Cancelo James // Williams
Salah Saka Neto Bailey // Andreas
    Haaland Jesus // Archer

    Thoughts on this weeks dilemma?

    A: Neco -> Walker
    B: Bailey -> Gross
    C: Bailey -> Xhaka
    D: Bench Bailey/Neco and roll a transfer

Why get rid of Neco? I'd roll the transfer

      Just bench, relax. It's GW2.

    2FT
    Raya
    Trent Robbo James Cancelo Williams
    Salah Saka Perreira
    Jesus Haaland

    Ward Neto Bailey Greenwood

    A) Bailey > March
    B) Greenwood > Archer (Burn transfer)

Agreed. He had three or four shots the other day. He wasn't getting much into the box, but I think we can expect him to pick up decent returns soon. I'd certainly take him or Foden ahead of Gundogan.

Is this bench worth a BB? or should I wait until DGWs?

Looks like Martinelli might double price rise this gameweeks by Wednesday (rose Saturday night and 68.1 again on fplstats)
Any chance if a triple rise?

Bailey>Andreas (have DaSilva), Archer>Toney for a -4? Exact change and will be priced out when Toney rises or Bailey drops
