Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is almost upon us, which gives us an opportunity to have a look at some more differential options.

This time, we’ve selected low-owned picks at Chelsea, Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion, who we think have the potential to make an impact.

As always, to qualify, the player must have an ownership of five per cent or less at the time of writing.

KAI HAVERTZ

Havertz shines again as Arsenal impress in FPL Double Gameweek 29 opener 6
  • FPL ownership: 3.9%
  • Price: £7.9m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: lee | LEI | sou | WHU | ful

Kai Havertz (£7.9m) should have scored against Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 2, as Reece James’ (£6.1m) cross was put past the post by the German.

However, he led the line well, combining effectively with fellow attackers Raheem Sterling (£10.0m) and Mason Mount (£8.0m), and now faces Leeds United on Sunday.

Beyond that, the Blues’ fixtures look great right up until the international break, particularly from an attacking perspective. Indeed, not one of their next four opponents have kept a clean sheet this season, conceding a whopping 18 goals between them.

Across Chelsea’s opening two matches against Everton and Spurs, Havertz has attempted five shots, all inside the box. Notably, he’s also posted team-leading totals for penalty box touches, shots on target and headed goal attempts.

In Gameweek 2, Havertz was deployed alongside Sterling in a front two and given considerable freedom to roam. It was an interesting system that resembled a 4-2-2-2 in possession and relied upon James and Marc Cucurella (£5.0m) for width, which can only be a good thing for Havertz’s goalscoring prospects moving forwards, given both wing-backs crossing ability.

Havertz is owned by just 3.9% of FPL managers, and whilst difficult to fit in, could be a smart differential to take advantage of Chelsea’s kind run.

JAMIE VARDY

  • FPL ownership: 4.3%
  • Price: £9.5m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: SOU | che | MUN | bha | AVL

Jamie Vardy (£9.5m) is an intriguing differential pick in Gameweek 3, given that opponents Southampton have failed to keep a single away clean sheet in the Premier League since October 2021.

On average, they have conceded 2.6 goals per game during that run, suggesting Vardy can net his first haul of the season on Saturday.

The veteran forward looks to be Leicester City’s first-choice forward again in 2022/23, starting his team’s first two matches and assisting Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s (£5.0m) strike against Brentford.  He is also on penalties and managed 15 Premier League goals last season, highlighting his FPL points potential.

Leicester haven’t got off to a great start, drawing with Brentford and losing at Arsenal, but they have scored four goals, so their attacking output hasn’t necessarily been affected. It’s also worth noting that they ranked fifth for goals scored (62) in 2021/22, with just under 55% of those goals arriving on home turf.

The swift turnaround between fixtures in Gameweeks 5 and 6 are possibly ones to watch for Vardy, given that Brendan Rodgers may manage his minutes, but there’s no Europe this season, which does help.

Vardy is a real livewire in the final third and an explosive differential for this forthcoming round of fixtures.

LEWIS DUNK

Fit-again Dunk a tempting FPL differential with goal threat and clean sheet potential 1
  • FPL ownership: 2.5%
  • Price: £4.5m
  • GW3-7 fixtures: whu | LEE | ful | LEI | bou

Lewis Dunk (£4.5m) is a solid performer for Brighton and Hove Albion, and should now tick along nicely given his fixtures.

The Albion captain played a pivotal role in helping his side keep a clean sheet against Newcastle United in Gameweek 2, and that defensive solidity, combined with the 30-year-old’s threat from set-pieces, is appealing.

Last season, Dunk ranked 17th among all defenders for shots in the box, but in 2020/21 was second, so there does seem to be some potential for points at both ends of the pitch.

Despite losing two of last season’s star players, Yves Bissouma (£5.0m) and Cucurella, Graham Potter’s side have started the campaign unbeaten. They have won at Manchester United and then followed that result up with a goalless draw against the Magpies, a game in which they deserved to win.

Now, Brighton don’t face another top-six side until Liverpool and Spurs in October. In fact, their run from Gameweeks 3 to 8 sees them sit top of our Season Ticker, with particularly appealing matchups against Leeds United, Fulham and Bournemouth to come.

At just £4.5m, Dunk is decent value and could be a great enabler, allowing you to push more money further forward.

Robbo is the only person i can move otherwise i think i may hold and weather the storm. Current team looks like this:

        Ward

        Perisic TAA Cancelo Robbo Willams

        Salah Mount Martinelli

        Jesus Haaland

        Bench:

I would have only sold Perisic -- the only player to be doubtful of minutes. Rest of your players will play. But, to each his own.

          Cheers.

James can't play every game either though can he?

But he's more nailed though, I suppose right? I'd really like to go for Cucurella, but not if it's simply not worth it.

I need someone to stay in that spot until the Wold Cup. I can handle a couple of benchings with N.Williams or Andreas coming in, but I don't want a load of 55-minute or 20-minute appearances. And I've no feel for what Tuchel's got in mind.

I mean he's said Cucurella and Chilwell are competing for a spot if he plays a back four, but not otherwise. I just think he prefers Cucurella and he did pay a lot of money.

What happens if Fofana comes in?

Oh god. James it is. lol

          idk

Ah, never play him over Allison. That's for sure.

But you said, "never play Ward" and got me confused.

Leicester kept 7 clean sheets last season. That's S-E-V-E-N out of 38 and that's all I want for 130 points.

Yea ikr, but surely a keeper change when the wildcards are about and hopefully you've more funds.

Sure Ward saved you .5, but Sanchez/Raya/Henderson prob better for those extra few pts for .5 more

Evening. Team for conxrear as think it's important:

    Ward
    TAA Robertson Cancelo James Neco
    Salah Saka Martinelli
    Haaland Jesus
    Iversen // Andreas Bailey Archer

Bailey an issue. Want to upgrade to someone like Gross/Rodrigo NEXT WEEK. Happy to bench this week.

However I need to gain funds to do it.

    A) Robertson > Cucurella
    B) Robertson > Walker
    C) Robertson > Dias (rules out Rodrigo)
    D) Other suggestion?

Not sure about saving because I'll want to sell a Robertson even less next week with BOU, and I'll be a bit stuck. Advice?

Not sure if you had 2 FTs or 1. If 1 I’d roll. If 2, the Dasilva move is an easy burn move as he’s going up tonight and will go up again if he scores points again this weekend as he becomes the go-to budget player.

How many players in your staring 11 are at home this week?

I’ve got two (zaha & dewsbury hall).

Feels like there is just that chance the home teams do well and spurs owners make up some ground.

To me it seems sensible to pick Ward ahead of Sanchez given the fixtures, but Ward's first two outings haven't instilled any faith in him so he will remain a bench-warmer until further notice.

Only have Ward/Iversen -- and sticking to it on my WC. So, it will be a home game my GKP for sure. I am pretty confident Leicester will keep at least 7 clean sheets this season again.

Is this going to be the most boring fpl season ever?

By that i mean we all have the same team near enough

Not once this season will i consider Dunk or Jonny or Martinez when I can have Saliba

Why would i want Antonio or Ings when i have Jesus?

Why would i want Coutinho when i have Martinelli?

Its like in my head there is a pool of about 30 players to choose from, thats not a lot of variation

Agreed. Can easily build a team with 3 city, 3 pool, 3 arsenal and then a Chelsea/Spurs. Or a different combination from the above.

Things will evolve, especially with the world cup, transfer window, new teams, dips in form, injuries, rotation etc. etc. and the top teams will be forward thinking a few weeks ahead of time to make sure they mitigate a lot of these issues as well as looking for the odd differential.

    4. F4L
      • 11 Years
      3 years, 7 months ago

injuries, lack of minutes for starters and rotation will help with the top teams, just hope Arteta plays strongest side in EL and not resting Martinelli/Jesus every midweek (although i doubt sadly)

Reading the article and I like Havertz but would i really sell Jesus for him?

Even if Havertz is matching Jesus for points, which is doubtful, would i really make the transfer?

This article is naff. Yea it's differential article so it's out there, but who's gona bring Havertz in over Haaland/Jesus.

Vardy could do well if fit and ready

Arsenal were and are undervalued providing a good pts for value ratio. Considering what Arteta brought in and sorted out it was the players to go for. Man city lite.

The defenders are undervalued in a wing back attacking type attacking system that most teams have and expect from fullbacks. It's expected in the modern game esp in the PL.

Fullbacks have evolved to be monsters and they're all probably .5 short of their real evaluation, which screws midfielder prices up.

This leaves the mids high and dry which is what we see. 2 premiums and a punt in midfield seems right about now.

As for Saliba vs Dunk. Saliba df and Sanchez gk is where it's at and has been for 3 weeks now. 9 mil for that great combo.

Big at the back and up top is where it's at with the current trends. It will change. 5 subs + a Winter world cup wc will keep it interesting and the fun is yet to happen!

My advice is to be adaptive and aggressive which I don't really see from most fpl gurus knocking about these days. It's a different season.

I do expect things to diversify as the season goes on. That said, players such as TAA, Cancelo, James, Diaz, Martinelli, Haaland and Jesus have been priced in such a way where most people are going to keep them in their teams until they are injured basically, and I think that's a shame. I hope FPL learns from this and is bolder with their pricing next season, although I fear it's been done with casuals in mind and will therefore remain the same

A guy at work showed me his team today and its pretty much template and i highly doubt he reads this site

It’s rubbish, they should have a max 2 players per team limit at least IMO. You shouldn’t be able to field a starting XI that is entirely top 4 teams, which is the case at the moment.
