Throughout the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, our stellar team of Pro Pundits, Hall of Famers and guest contributors will be sharing their thoughts and own transfer plans.

Only Premium Members are able to read every single one of these pieces, so sign up today to get full access not just to the editorial content but all of the other benefits, from hundreds of Opta stats to a transfer planner.

Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser discusses the best replacements for Rodrigo, who is the most-sold player of the week.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

It was only 30 minutes into the game against Everton when Rodrigo Moreno (£6.4m) had to be subbed off due to a dislocated shoulder. He’s going to be out for a while, as Jesse Marsch already told us:

“When it pops out, it’s about as good a case scenario as possible. That means that it doesn’t need surgery and hopefully, in 3-4 weeks, it can calm down. Maybe it takes a little bit longer, maybe it’s a little bit shorter, we will see. He feels good, he feels confident that he will be ready fairly soon, so we’re kind of targeting after the international break.” – Jesse Marsch

He was heavily owned in the game and a lot of FPL managers are looking for replacements – so let’s get right into the contenders.

Pascal Gross (£5.9m) / Leandro Trossard (£6.5m)

FPL Gameweek 2 differentials: Trossard, Johnson and Harrison

Brighton and Hove Albion have gone up a gear from the tail end of last season. Gross has started very well and his underlying numbers look encouraging. He’s behind only Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£10.0m) for non-penalty expected goal involvement (xGI) among all midfielders this season and has made a habit of getting into good goalscoring positions. He’s on a fair amount of set pieces too and is generally a bonus point-attracting machine as well. They play Leicester City and Bournemouth in the next two Gameweeks who are in the bottom six for expected goals conceded (xGC) this season. I also mention Leandro Trossard because he has recently moved further up the pitch due to Pervis Estupinan (£4.5m) slotting in at wing-back. Also, another factor is that Brighton have 113.5 hours of rest before their game against Leicester in Gameweek 6 while Leicester only have 64.5 hours. I do think this will be a factor.

Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.5m)

I hope this article helps you as I’ve tried to cite short and long-term options based on what your Wildcard usage seems like.

Good luck this Gameweek!

Have a feeling that Perisic gonna be benched - play Neco over him?

    Ramsdale

I have a classic benching dilemma this week! Appreciate your views.

    Who would you bench from
    Cucu Neco or Gross?

    Sanchez
    TAA Cancello Neco James
    Salah Martinelli Gross Diaz
    Haaland Jesus
    Ward Cucu Andreas Archer

Cucu, regretfully. Gross striker against bottom of the league and on set pieces. Neco could haul against BOU, Chelsea defence not great and Chillwell lurking behind the scenes anyway.

Cucu. I am going to buy Neco + Gross to bench Cucu (though somebody could be out/benched so dont mind having Cucu first on bench).

I've just got Alvarez in this week, giving the 343 with both him and Haaland approach a go. My thinking was if one plays 60mins and the other 20-30, they are both more than capable of a goal each.

😀 Rodri turned out to be quite a good option last year to be fair. Haaland and Cancelo and then one of Walker/Ederson/KDB/Gundo/Silva/Foden I guess. Walker for me but aware he may get reduced minutes at some point and lacks bonus/attacking returns.

    1FT, 1.1M ITB. Advice appreciated.

    Mendy
    TAA, Cancelo, Gabriel, Walker, Cucurella
    Salah, Diaz, Martinelli
    Haaland, Jesus

    (Iversen, Andreas, Dasilva, Plange)

    A) Save FT
    B) Cucurella -> Williams (2.2M in the bank to go towards getting Mitrovic in 4-3-3)
    C) Diaz -> Gross (3.3M in the bank to go towards getting Nunez/Mitrovic in 4-3-3)
    D) Diaz & Cucurella -> Sterling & Williams (-4)
    E) Mendy -> Sanchez

I'm guessing E is most sensible?

Haha, yeah – the way things have turned with FFS has left a kind of bad taste in my mouth.

I mean, I get that you want to make a buck by upping the business side of things. But it's just the sum of it all – annoying Indeed-commercials (has ANYONE ever started using the platform after hearing these?) and ads for all kinds of other stuff. Bah.

At least they should have an ad-free RSS feed for paying members so people don't have to skip past the ads as most of us probably do.

Nah, not at all. It wasn’t very helpful tbf lol but do genuinely wish you luck. Actually I posted about this recently and the best response I got was to contact my bank and get them to ensure no more funds are taken. I’ve not done it yet - doesn’t renew until March so might as well procrastinate but that’s my plan of action.

I agree on the reasons for cancelling too - I never even used the members area but just wanted to give back to a site I spent so much time on. Sadly it’s not the place it was

No worries, they did some ‘upgrades’ to the profile pages over the summer and at least for me it’s been awful since. Things like not being able to quickly find a users team link and the account settings now hidden.

I’m sure I read a comment that it’s being work on still, but it’s pretty close to be a compliance / legal issue about not offering a clear cancellation or unsubscribe button as you shouldn’t have to go through your bank.

Sancho much more of goal threat from the left, I would probably punt if I had extra bucks to replace Rodrigo.

Antony. Sancho gets subbed early, even when he scores. Antony is the only left footed attacker at united and at 85million he plays

2ft. Still have James Cucurella in team, not much pressing, maybe downgrade one of them to N.Williams to prepare for bigger things?
One option is to move Ramsdale on, tougher games coming up. Strange season as burning transfers seems to be an option again and again (havent done that yet though)

    Bottomed

1FT wanna ditch Robertson but leaning toward rolling and deciding who to upgrade elsewhere next week…thinking isak as a short term punt before wildcard

Or do I ditch robbo now??

    Sanchez (ward)
    TAA, robbo, cancelo, James (Williams)
Salah (c currently) martinelli dasilva gross (Andreas)
    Haaland Jesus

Cancelo had 2 60 minute matches. I’m sure he plays against Villa

Re those who don't own Trent but instead have Diaz.

Trent does not need any introduction, he hands down the best defender and mid priced asset to own but, If you do not own Trent and instead own Diaz, I would run with him until Jota is match fit. For now he is nailed.

Diaz's of the ball runs is what makes him so lethal. His stats are not the best and he is not involved much in build up play etc but you just do not know where Diaz is going to pop out from so a very good hold for now.

    Still, I prefer Trent.

Depends. Some did move on Trent recently, perhaps got him back or now have to take hits to get him back.

I am moving on from Diaz next GW. Some wont be able to, some will or some wont.

I am just pointing out, Diaz is a very good option to hold irrespective of your Liverpool 3 situation.

Darwin's a wait and see for me.

Tough fixtures coming up for Liverpool plus need to be a bit more sure that he's not gonna get another violent conduct red card again and get an extended ban.

seriously I'd go Haaland, Mitrovic, Alvarez with 2 good subs.

Haaland's hattrick out scoring Salah by 7 points shows you that midfield is where the points are at.
