With six Gameweeks’ worth of Premier League player and team data now available, it’s time to bring Big Numbers back for the 2022/23 season.

For the uninitiated, this article series looks at the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) statistics ahead of the upcoming Gameweek.

These cherry-picked Opta stats can all be found in our Premium Members’ Area.

Only subscribers can read the full article; those wishing to sign up to our site and continue reading, as well as see a list of the benefits that Membership brings, can do so by clicking here.

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

-3.50 expected goals prevented (xGP) by Danny Ward (£4.0m) this season. In layman’s terms, the Leicester City goalkeeper has conceded on 16 occasions when Opta’s ‘expected’ data reckons he should only have shipped 12.5 goals. That makes him the biggest underperformer of current starting Premier League goalkeepers, while no present number one has a worse save percentage (53.3%).

+2.60 is, by contrast, Jordan Pickford‘s (£4.5m) xGP in the first six Gameweeks, which is the best among FPL goalkeepers this season. He has been in fine form for the Toffees but he’ll be absent with a thigh injury in Gameweek 8, which could be a boost to the Fantasy prospects of West Ham attackers.

14 of Aaron Ramsdale‘s (£4.9m) last 16 Premier League starts have seen the Arsenal goalkeeper finish the match without a clean sheet. His xGP in that time is a poor -5.50, while his save percentage is down at a miserable 57.7%.

0.8 points per match averaged by Lucas Digne (£4.7m) this season, the joint-lowest mean of any ever-present starter in 2022/23 to date.

16 penalty box touches registered by Diogo Dalot (£4.5m) in the first six Gameweeks of the season, a total that no other FPL defender can better. Dalot’s rate of penalty area touches per 90 minutes has more than doubled compared to 2021/22, while he is also currently third for chances created (10) among players in his Fantasy position.

The UK shutting down for the day of a state funeral makes sense. The UK shutting down for two weeks is frankly ludicrous.

Here's some info I found that might be relevant to those questioning what will happen with this weekend's fixtures:

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/national-day-of-mourning-when-b1829165.html?amp

The planned period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II is 12 days (this is from an article from about 15 months ago)

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-the-period-of-national-mourning/guidance-for-the-period-of-national-mourning#sporting-events

From the UK Government's own website regarding the mourning period for the Duke of Edinburgh (April 2021):

    "8. Sporting Events

The decision as to whether sporting fixtures continue to go ahead is at the discretion of organisers. Organisers may wish to consider using black armbands and observing a silence before matches are played."

Now things may be different this time, but at least in this case from last year, it was up to organisers whether to continue with the original plans for sporting events. Given the logistical difficulties of reorganising a week's worth of fixtures, and the (expensive and restrictive) nature of TV rights, things may just go ahead as normal with a minute's silence, black armbands and probably other ceremonial arrangements. But again, things could be quite different in this scenario.

Potter has been using more creative/playmaking mids in the positions behind the striker in his setups at Brighton, more winger type players like Trossard/March/Lamptey get pushed out wide, where does Sterling fit in now? Do you think he's worth keeping?

      • 5 Years

Trossard & March have been the wingbacks for Potter - I expect Chilwell & James to do that for him.
      Gross = Sterling
      Welbeck = Havertz/Aubameyang
      Mount in the middle maybe?

      Lots to unpack.

    Looking at this below:

    Sanchez
    TAA, Cancelo, Walker, James, Perisic
    Salah, Diaz, Martinelli
    Jesus, Haaland (c)

Ward, Andreas, DaSilva, Archer (0,5 ITB and 2 FT)

Looking at Walker -> Trippier this GW and then Salah + ____ -> KDB + ____ next GW.

    Sound solid?

Liverpool vs Newcastle was the Sunday match and that was cancelled. It was then an international break. Some of the lower league matches were moved to not clash with Diana's funeral. I don''t remember what happened with the international matches for the home countries.

It will be sombre and not sure what will be on or open, but flight wise you should be fine.

I'd stay if you've it booked to still come. You cam always still play golf, drink, sight-see and have a good time. Doubt the football will be on, but you have still opportunity to enjoy yourselves...!

Thanks all, appreciate it! Was very excited to see Liverpool play at Anfield but perhaps I’ll be able to get back another time.

Wonder if UEFA will require the English clubs to forfeit their games if they refuse to play next week.

Would be ridiculous for clubs to do that

Domestically, I would guess that all sport on UK soil will now be stopped for 10-12 days. European football, golf, tennis F1 etc obviously continue.

With the international break I would be surpsied if there are any matches until four weekends.

Next weeks' European matches could be an issue, if at home.

God Bless mamm. Thanks for your service.
I pity republicans and insensitive prats. May be they're too young to understand the enormity of this moment or how millions of us are feeling at this moment.

Saying you pity people who have a different opinion than you makes you a bit of a prat to be honest mate.

You can see why half the Commonwealth want to become Republics. Brexit mentality in all its glory.
I'll take it back if you tell me how you mourned when the King of Cambodia passed.

The last reigning King of Cambodia died in 1960. 'Tis a bit much to expect anyone to remember the manner in which they mourned him.

The moment would only have any enormity if they took it as an opportunity to scrap the whole rotten concept of a Royal Family.
