We regularly get some excellent submissions to the Community Articles section of Fantasy Football Scout, from statistical analysis to Red Lightning’s mini-league round-ups and everything in between.

In the article below, site regular Notlob Legin hails the positive aspects of not just Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but also you, the Fantasy Football Scout community.

First of all, let me introduce myself.

My profile name is Notlob Legin and I’ve been playing FPL for nine seasons, with seven of my finishes in the top 100k and one in the top 10k. I have been a member of Fantasy Football Scout for six years and basically, I love football and in particular FPL. I am in my late-50s and live in the United Kingdom. I have two grown-up children and about five years ago, I “inherited” my other son; he has behavioural issues, goes to a specialist school and has had quite an impact on our lives. I would never change it, though, and have no regrets about our decision to take him on.

I work from home permanently now and due to my son’s issues we rarely go out and no-one ever visits us. We are therefore quite isolated; I’m not looking for sympathy here and overall, I am very happy with my life.

I have read many articles about how FPL can affect your mental health and last year I was part of a study into this, completing a form after every Gameweek had finished. To me, every article appears to be positioned towards how FPL can have a negative effect on your mental health – but I think in my case it’s the complete opposite!

My wife said to me a few years ago that my only hobby and real interest in life is FPL. A simple logical question she asked me was, “why don’t you spend more time on it as it’s your only interest?” This completely changed my mindset and view on the mental health issue.

I love FPL and this site. I spend hours on here every day and get great pleasure in making my own decisions. I have no guilt about my passion for the game. I, like everyone else, have good weeks and bad weeks. For example, I brought in Marcus Rashford (£6.6m) on my Gameweek 4 Wildcard. What a buzz that has given me over the past couple of weeks! I also make many bad/wrong decisions. Do I get down and upset about it? Not at all, I try to learn from it – to me, it’s all about having a positive mindset.

FPL review: Rashford's haul and Brighton's in-form midfielders

The times I get negative mental health issues are when the game is not on, such as the close season, the World Cup this year and in the aftermath of events this last week. To me, FPL is my escapism from normal life and I unashamedly say I love it.

I am no elite manager, average at best. But to me, FPL and Fantasy Football Scout are what keep me ticking. It has had such a positive impact on my life and I love the challenge of every year trying to improve on my overall rank. I also understand that most people are in a very different situation to me personally and that the game may impact you in different ways, But to me, it is, without doubt, the thing that keeps me going.

I wasn’t sure if this would get posted as it’s more a personal story/view about the game but if it does, I hope you enjoyed reading it and maybe, just maybe, if one person out there starts seeing the game as a positive rather than a negative, it was worth writing.

My last quick point is on the comments section on this site. I read almost every comment posted and overall, love the community. However, my grandad (a very wise man) always use to say to me:

There’s so much good in the worst of us
And so much bad in the best of us
That it ill betroves any of us
To criticise the rest of us

Good luck to all for the rest of the season.

All this talk about Sonny having a few quiet games and now talk of him bring dropped. Golden boot winner last season. When Kane had his voodoo August draughts you wouldn't even think of dropping him. Same applies here and perfect game for Son to bounce back

Put Son in this week. I'm feeling a haul... although in saying that I also thought Rangers would beat Napoli on Wednesday....nvm

Certainly a case for trying to play him back into form against Leicester. But I don't think dropped means permanently relegated to the bench - more like letting others pick up the slack temporarily during this rough patch

The funny thing is: most FPL managers equate that no FPL returns = drop worthy form. While he hasn't been producing G+A, he hasn't been so poor warranting a drop. Hasn't been at his best, I agree, but hasn't been that bad either.

Conte’s comments suggest Kulu starts today so Son of Richarli gets a rest and it’s obvious who needs it more

Was Andreas off corners (and SPs?) last night? Has Willian’s arrival affected this?

      Thats what I read here

      1. Holmes

"Instead, the likes of Harrison Reed (£4.5m) and Willian (£5.5m) were amongst the goals and assists, with the latter notably taking away some of Pereira’s set-pieces."

    2. The Mentaculus
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 23 days ago

Willian took most of the corners but Andreas took a few also. Andreas also on DFKs still

    3. KanuLenoMeeMoCash
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 23 days ago

The strange part was Andreas took a great corner, Mitrovic almost scored from it, scrambled away for another corner and Willian went over to take the next one. Wasn't a different type of corner or anything, just decided he was going to take it and Andreas though getting ready to take it just walked away. Andreas still took a couple of inswingers from the other side so maybe it's just on Willian's side

Didn't hit WC button yet, currently trying some versions of new team and I am stucked with same players:

Haaland, Cancelo, Trippier, James, Mitrovic and Martineli and that's it...can't find any value out of that range..

A lovely article and FPL also gives me wonderful escapism from real life challenges which is what it should be. You’re right to subtly point out the haters in the comments, its only a game, whilst the real football is as Sacchi said the most important of the least important things and FPL is just below that for me. Last season I finished at 17k, today I’m near 5 million….

You’re plenty better than average too mate as being in the top 100k puts you in the top 1-2% in all those seasons.

Thank you - glad you understood the subtle message

17k last season was great - I finished about 90k, Currently at about 500,000 this season with an aim to try and finish in top 50k

Good luck to you for the rest of the season

Lovely article - I feel the same in that I'm not great at FPL by any means but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment of it. Also, I've read about people who are unable to watch football without gambling on it, which is obviously not healthy - I think FPL in a way provides that added excitement to watching games but without the financial risk, even if it still quite addictive!

There was me going to press the button to bring back in Nathan Ake after he played mid week. Glad I avoided that

Not the main, but one of things that tipped me over the edge to WC this week instead of next. Saw a lot of predicted lineups with him benched.

Bernardo (or Foden) seems a better shout for a City mid these days. Can play more positions, although numbers not as amazing

Would be proper FPL if Neto, after trolling all those first few GKs, scores against City when everyone has sold him.

What a lovely article. Some great points about looking on the bright side of things and trying to improve on your own level. I do a bit of volunteering with children with special needs and have the greatest of respect for their parents/guardians.

Thank you - without volunteers for these children the respite so often desperately needed would be massively missed. Keep up your good work

Haaland non-captainer here; trying to be clever by going with Kane. Happy with anything in single digits for the big lad before 'Arry bags a hat trick. Will let you know how it affects my mental health if Haaland goes wild.

I went Kane also. I don’t think it’s trying to be clever as much as taking the odd risk against capping Haaland and if it pays off great it’s a great boost to rank

If you can't captain Kane at home against bottom of the league, when can you captain him? I think it's a coin toss between Kane and Haaland this week, both are good and obvious options.

There are two types of Kane. The CF Kane & the DMF Kane. Let’s hope it’s not the latter today.

I am also laughing because after Pep liad about playing Alvarez.

I got to keep Haaland and just going to cap him every game, except for GW12 of course.

You are stuck with Bailey. I ain't.

            it's bizarre.

I think it's the one thing he feels he was right about, he scored points but dropped in price.

I've not had him for weeks.

Foofy was berating me for getting rid of him but thinking he was okay and now he's decided I've got him.
