Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are in unfamiliar mid-season territory, as each and every one of us only has to think of the short term.

Unlimited transfers are handed to FPL bosses over the World Cup break, effectively creating a ‘third’ Wildcard for 2022/23.

So we’re only looking at Gameweeks 15 and 16 when it comes to transfer targets ahead of this Saturday’s deadline.

Above: How our Season Ticker looks when clubs are sorted by fixture difficulty over the next two Gameweeks

We’ll be looking at a few teams with the better-looking fixture couplets over the coming days, then, starting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

READ MORE: What Lateriser said about Man Utd assets ahead of Gameweek 14

BRIGHTON UNDER DE ZERBI

Roberto De Zerbi came to the helm at the Amex before Gameweek 9, so we’ve got a nice six-match sample to draw from when we look at Albion under new management.

Here we study the Seagulls’ underlying attacking and defensive numbers to see how they fare compared to other Premier League clubs over their last half-dozen fixtures.

TotalRank v other clubs
Shots877th
Shots on target33=5th
Shots in the box624th
Big chances16=3rd
Expected goals (xG)8.629th

Under De Zerbi, Brighton have encouragingly been top-half material for all the key attacking metrics listed above.

It’s a continuation of the sorts of figures they were churning out under Graham Potter but when we look at who the Seagulls have faced since the September international break, the above ranks are all the more impressive:

Brighton were bottom of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty over this period, facing all of last season’s top four as well as a Brentford side who have lost only once on home soil this season.

In all six matches did Albion register at least one ‘big chance’, with nine of them arriving across the Liverpool and Chelsea games.

Actual goal output has veered wildly from the typically profligate (54 shots were registered without success in Gameweeks 10-12) to the prolific (three goals from six attempts against Liverpool), with Chelsea giving their hosts a helping hand last weekend with two own-goals.

TotalRank v other clubs
Shots conceded584th
Shots on target conceded236th
Shots in the box conceded434th
Big chances conceded13=13th
Expected goals conceded (xGC)6.846th

It’s been equally impressive at the other end of the pitch, despite just one clean sheet being registered under De Zerbi.

To be sixth for xGC having faced the four sides in the Champions League is excellent, with Manchester City’s modest 1.63 xG in Gameweek 13 the most that the Seagulls have allowed under De Zerbi.

Does that look like the right starters/bench order?

    Pickford
    Zouma - Cancelo - Trippier
    Martinelli - Rashford - Foden - Saka
    Darwin - Haaland (c) - Kane (vc)

    Ward - White - Bueno - Andreas

Sold Pope and Toney, bought Sanchez (like his next 2 more than any other keepers) and Wilson.
-4 and problem solved. Unless you have other issues in your team.

I just can't see other attackers doing well in that price bracket (maybe Havertz or Jesus if you have funds) and also caught early price rise AND avoided Toney's price fall.

Think Foden plays tonight with Academy boys on bench. I'm going with MEN team - Predicted XI: Ortega; Stones, Dias, Ake, Gomez; Rodri, De Bruyne, Gundogan; Mahrez, Alvarez, Foden.

With World Cup jsut weeks away is there an element at play where players that want to play at the World Cup dont' want to get injured so are asking managers to rest them where possible and/or not rying as hard i.e. no big lunges/stretches? And from the managers view resting World Cup players, especially for the big teams that will likely progress beyond the opening round, means they come back less fatigued for Boxing Day?

Pep can play Haaland (if fit again) knowing he has 4 weeks rest coming up, whereas Foden has the World Cup and for a team that should progress to QF's at least.

So for our final 2 transfers should we prioritise bringing in non-World Cup players and transferring out those that are likely to play the most minutes at the World Cup?

For example, will Kane home to Leeds gameweek 16 be exciting with him knowing he has the World Cup just over a week away.

      It's possible.
Teams that have qualified for the FA Cup Final and are fairly safe in the League often have a string of really bad results in the matches leading up to the Final, because of players not wanting to get injured and missing it.

But that's towards the end of the season, and I'm sure that managers won't want to risk dropping points just because there's a World Cup coming up.

Is there a bit of a blind spot with Almiron with the content creators? Appreciate he has been mentioned but still quite dismissive of him as an option and going forward. Taking the mods and cons league as a sample only 6 out of 38 own him on the back of 3 double digit hauls. I got him in gw10 when he was still 5.1 and it was only really Gianni who mentioned him as an option (and it enabled threemium). When you have the table of differentials on the scout cast like Benrahma it seems silly to go for any of those over Almiron.

        Pickford (Ward)
        Cancelo, Trippier, Zouma (Dalot, Saliba)
        KDB, Trossard, Martinelli, Almirón (Andreas)
        Haaland, Kane, Wilson

Zouma could be Estupiñán, Castagne — to rotate with Dalot, Saliba over the next two —, and I am open to any other suggestion as well. Many thanks!

If Haaland is out, what's my best way to get KDB?

        A) Salah to KDB
        B) Zaha and VVD to KDB and 4.0, play Neco (BRE)
        C) Zaha and Haaland o KDB and Wilson (sou)

B and C keeps Salah for their plum GW16 fixture

Southampton could be less of a plum fixture than Leeds and Forest seemed to be. De Bruyne far more consistent in FPL than Salah.

Yeah likely getting him in anyway. It's more a question of having Salah too

        A) Martinelli>Bernardo (started every game since GW3)

        B Saka>Foden

        C) Dunk>Akanji (and pray he plays next 2)

Why would you sell any of them?

Why consider B?! He’s fine for tomorrow, nevermind Sunday. C could be good actually, especially if Akani does not start today!

Feel the need to get a 3rd city as their fixtures much better than the players I have. But maybe I should just hold as no other issues

3rd city cannot be Foden as his minutes are not guaranteed by any means

A is decent, but not optimal. Forget the rest

Help! Anyone know why Bellingham is not in Uefa Predicted Line up?
Should I take him out of my starting line up?
        Thanks guys

Hmmm. I didn’t know this. Was going to bring him on for Kvara’s 3pts.

DOR have nothing to play for...so he may not start.

Might be rested. Dortmund guaranteed second place in the group. Only motivation is €2.8m win bonus, no small amount, but even without him they should win.
