Spain were ahead. Why did they insist on playing short risky passes when they had control of the game? They're so scared of playing a long ball when under pressure. No pragmatism. Pure romantisism.

This is where Brazil, France, and England are superior. They know when to play short possessional football and when to go direct. More weapons in the toolkit for different moments.

It has worked for them before to be fair. Didn’t they win back to back Euros & a World Cup playing this way?

That side were at a different level. Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Ramos, these players had impeccible decision making.

Not only the quality of the Spanish players, but I think more teams are pressing high now than they were back then.

Most players make mistakes. It's normal. But if you make a mistake when passing out from the back, it's devestating.

Thats fair. That Spain team that was probably the best, most dominant team I’ve seen in international football in my lifetime. Xavi & Iniesta we’re on a whole other level

      Brazil the most complete.

Allison, Marquinhos, Silva, Casemiro, Fred is a such a solid spine to support a wide array of attackers both on the pitch and the bench.

      They'll be tough to beat.

Spain are trying to finish second on purpose to avoid playing Croatia.
    This is pathetic from them.
Germany should also purposely lose to Costa Rica so that Spain also get eliminated

There's a very easy quarter, clearly fixed by Spain.

    R16: Spain v Morocco
QF: Spain v 'Group H winner: most likely Portugal"

    Dodge Argentina and Brazil.
At least it's not as bad as WC 2018.

Brasil have the easiest quarter though technically.

        R16: Brasil v Group H: runner-up: 'Uruguay / Ghana'
        QF: Brasil v 'Croatia/Japan'

Easiest draws so far, but the toughest team by far.
        Nobody wants to face Brasil.

Morocco isn't an easy game. Spain attack couldn't break down Japanese defence. Their defence isn't exactly solid either. A few tippy tappy light footballer, look great with plenty of time and space like Costa Rica gave them. They should beat Morocco but

Spain v Portugal would be an interesting game.

So Denmark, Belgium and Germany are out.
    Spain look lightweight.
Argentina rely too much on one player.
France - no strength in depth particularly with Kante, Pogba and Benzema (maybe) not fit.
    Croatia - an ageing team
    Italy not even there.

That leaves Brazil and England. It’s coming home, it’s coming home ………

Argentina rely too much on one player.
Still won 2-0 against Poland, without him scoring
      -----

      Spain look lightweight.
How is this a problem if they do the business?
      -----

      France
No strength in depth? Their B team could qualify on its own outright.

      -----
      Croatia - an ageing team
Really? You would've thought they were the inexperienced rookies against Belgium

      -----

Only two teams can really claim to be frontrunners (Brazil, France), and Argentina are close-by thanks to an easy R16, and reasonable QF draw.

      -----
      England
Can't even win against U.S.A, have perennially overachieved thanks to lucky, easy draws in the past 2 tournaments.

Did they even need a result? - Group winners with an L shows how dominant they are.

Have a look at that bench, and tell me with a straight face that France B don't qualify.
Kounde, Varane, Saliba, T. Hernandez, Camavinga, Coman, Thuram....
