Matchday 5 still in progress I managed to get rid of Saka after final whistle. Use your GW5 transfers if you can.

I don't see many good alternatives. Don't want Moroccan players.
It was either Perisic or Rabiot.

I have Rabiot and watched him closely. He did link up with Mbappe quite well. He had one very good chance but missed it. He will probably get something, but risk of AA is real also. Can't see many better alternatives, also Mbappe got nothing today. And we probably need French mids in final also.

Better manager could have won this match. Southgate started with "short" Pickford in goal. Both Pope and Henderson would have saved first goal. Cannot blame Pickford, he is much taller than me for example, but that's not the point. Southgate knew this risk, he took it, he lost it.

Transferring Saka out was simply stupid. He was MOTM. First goal wasn't at all his fault, it was ref error. And he won the pen and was in fire. Should have won some free kicks also. When margins are small, little things matter.

James Ward-Prowse would be bury that free kick, pen kick and play better than Henderson.

He took Maddison with him. Too bad not that many players got their chance on this tournament. But credit to Southgate and his team England were better today, France were lucky to score those goals from the amount of chances they created.

Well I'm heartbroken. A dream shattered.

But can't fault the players, they were magnificent. Best England performance I've seen in my lifetime. Every single starter was an 8 out of 10 or higher. The three youngsters Bellingham (19), Saka (21) and Foden (22) were 10/10. We'll try again in four years when the players are mature.

    Well done France.

I think I'm done. I wish you all the best of luck. Goodbye all.

Having the ref play on your side makes a huge difference. But, fair play to France, they still had to put the ball in the net and scored two good goals

England weren't progressive enough in attack. Didn't support Foden and Saka moves quickly enough, left them isolated. Could have done with Grealish on earlier

Just the 4 fouls around the box, one of which leading to the first goal - these things affect the game

Having to go to VAR for the 2nd pen confirmed the bias

But, as I said, England didn't play well enough. We could have still won but lacked the sharpness in attack when Phil and Bukayo were going for it

Plus the usual inability of Southgate to read what was needed and make the telling substitution - Grealish

The "plucky loser" narrative is all too enticing.

Ultimately, we have always struggled to retain possession and beyond that lack any type of cutting edge. Until we address those two key elements and stop mouthing off how good we are, then we'll never get beyond this current ceiling.

Yep, that's the crux of it.

I'm relieved we've made a concious effort shift away from this culture of toxic criticism, but our inability to recognise that English football won't move forward till it is overhauled will forever hold us back.

We ultimately didn't play all that well

Posted during the Senegal game. Basically explains why England lost against France. Since Iran most of England's goals have come from deep midfield counters and not through high possession. Southgate persisted with high possession when it was obvious they struggled to create chances.

"Southgate tactics to keep possession and play high up the pitch were failing.

The team aren't coached well enough to play that way.

The players have bailed Southgate out with 2 deep counter moves from midfield.

England need to play this way from the start."

I only got one keeper and will probably use one of my 4. I still have 3 'tokens' left as I forgot to use power captain or 12th man. Now got to make a decision whether a wild card in final game week is more profitable over using the 12th man!!

OGS has said that after coaching MU the way he did, no-one has done any better. He feels honoured for the chance to take his new challenge with Three Lions. He is expected to be Sir Ole Gunnar after his 4 year project.

    Huge opportunity missed.
Morocco in the semi-finals, Brazil out, with Argentina - Croatia in the other semi.
Have to feel for Kane, in my view that miss is more painful than Saka's v Italy.

No, the other was the final pen in a final, that was on last 8 with 10-50 mins of football remaining and the score on 2-2.

You need a huge GK in order to win the World Cup, just this.
I don’t mean that Pickford was sht or something but teams who win the World Cup always have huge GKs

Yes Emi is great, Bono is having an amazing tournament too, Livakovic also and Lloris plays well for France usually

      Penalty Man - Dean Henderson

The PK-Shootout rule is dumb however.

Team can play negative for 120 minutes and then get the same odds on PK.

We should total up the shots, corners, and possession- then distribute PKs.

If you survive to PK but just defend, you get 1 PK. The guys that played get 5 PKs.

Blaming luck time after time just doesn't make sense. Lloris would have saved that first shot for example. Southgate chose Pickford who was just simply too short to save it. That's not pure luck, it's a calculated(?) risk and he lost it.

Things may change within couple of years. Bellingham, Saka and Foden are not at their best yet.

Yep I said in the pub after that goal that Pope would have saved it routinely.

Nope, Finland has to be. We have never even made it into final tournament. A lot of bad luck. Loads of it. Skill has naturally nothing to do with it.

England have never won a knockout fixture in the World Cup or Euros/European Championship on foreign soil ever so it definitely didn't come as a surprise.

      Unlucky, agreed.

Greece winning a Euro was lucky rubbish

Germany in 2014 was luck, but 7 up on Brazil was huge. Got to play a mental Brazil team with idiots like David Luiz on the team. That's lucky.

      Germany 1990 was lucky.

      Denmark 1992 was lucky

Italy 2006 was full of lucky moments.

Anyone else wonder if England were going to pull off that stunt Netherlands did with that final minute free-kick to level at 2-2?

I thought they may try something as it was close to get it up and down. Also felt that Shaw probably fancied taking it!
