Suspensions

In this regular article, we look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are a caution away from a one-match ban.

We also round up which FPL assets are already suspended ahead of the Gameweek 19 deadline.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a ban? 11

Three players are banned for the Premier League’s next round of fixtures, none of whom is a well-owned FPL asset.

Amadou Onana (£4.8m) and Yves Bissouma (£4.7m) will miss their respective sides’ fixtures in midweek, having collected their fifth bookings of the season over the last 24 hours or so.

Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) is also still suspended for Gameweek 19 after his straight red card against Fulham on Boxing Day.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

A total of 29 players are currently on the verge of suspension.

Kieran Trippier (£5.9m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.1m) have now joined the group who are close to a ban, picking up their fourth bookings of the season on New Year’s Eve.

A caution for either player in the Arsenal v Newcastle United match on Tuesday would see them miss Gameweek 20.

William Saliba (£5.3m), Harry Kane (£11.6m), Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.1m) and Fabian Schar (£4.9m) are other notable names as they all have double-digit ownerships in FPL, while an ‘out of position’ Leon Bailey (£4.5m) is also in just under 5% of squads.

Mitrovic will be in the clear after Gameweek 19 is over but a booking in Tuesday’s trip to Leicester City would rule him out of Fulham’s second Double Gameweek match, which is against Chelsea on January 12.

Among the 30+ players on three yellow cards are Ben White (£4.7m), Andreas Pereira (£4.6m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.3m).

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Following the wave of postponements in the autumn and fixture rearrangements over the World Cup break, that is no longer Gameweek 19 for most teams.

Team19th fixture falls in…
ArsenalGameweek 21
Aston VillaGameweek 20
BournemouthGameweek 20
BrentfordGameweek 20
BrightonGameweek 21
ChelseaGameweek 20
Crystal PalaceGameweek 21
EvertonGameweek 20
FulhamGameweek 19 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
LeedsGameweek 21
LeicesterGameweek 20
LiverpoolGameweek 21
Man CityGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek*)
Man UtdGameweek 21
NewcastleGameweek 20
Nottm ForestGameweek 20
SouthamptonGameweek 20
SpursGameweek 20 (first fixture of Double Gameweek*)
West HamGameweek 20
WolvesGameweek 20

*if the provisional Double Gameweek goes ahead

The above will change if there are any further rearrangements of the postponed fixtures before that.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Which rotation defender should I sell? Considering Villa options with good fixtures and decent form

    A) Walker (should play against the toothless Chelsea surely?)
    B) White (bad fixtures but good long term)
    C) Castagne (not sure why i even have him)

I did it. Don't really want Martial long term, and do want Mitrovic. Shaw and Rashford are plenty of United access for me.

Really? Chelsea have been quite poor defensively for a while (stats have dropped off significantly ever since Potter took charge) while Leicester are pretty poor themselves. I made the move, I think Martial will get benched this week and he didn't look good against Wolves

Just one more try for this, apologies for repost.

My only shot at getting Mitrovic is to sell Kane. He’s the only player I would consider shifting for him.

Worth it? Even with Kane’s DGW to come? (Admittedly a tough DGW)
Or……suck it up and do Darwin > Mitro as I have Salah to cover? Such a hard decision!

    Thanks guys.

    For reference, team is:

    Ward
    Cancelo - Trippier - Cucu
    Andreas - Rashford - Salah - Marti
    Kane - Haaland - Darwin

Yeah I think I noticed a few pages back we had similar teams haha! Such a tough decision this, a proper head rattler!
Having Salah to cover Darwin is a nice cushion but I just know as soon as I bin Nunez off he’ll bang!

That’s my concern with darwin too he’s getting the chances whereas going by what people have been saying about spurs on here (didn’t watch the game personally) Kane is probably the one to go

            • 3 Years
            3 years, 4 months ago

Yeah this is the hard choice for sure! Darwin I have no doubt will score well if I sell him, the chances he’s getting is ridiculous!
Whereas Kane can do well next game if Kulu is back and can switch it on as we know he can. Him and Mitro both on 4 yellows can be a case of out of the frying pan and into the……haha!

    3. Gross Blank Point

Same front three as you and I'm going to keep them for now. They can both score the same as Mitro, and Kane will have Kulu back.
It's a risk but a good one if it pays off.

Cheers for that pal, yeah I’m torn really, and often it is just best to do nothing. That yellow card hanging over Mitro is a deterrent also, and Kane is in 4 also.
As it stands right now, I have to do nothing as I’m completely flummoxed

You can overthink this game far too easily. Sometimes it's better just to look at the positives in your players and don't worry about running with the flow.

So what would be the play here please:

    DDG (Ward)
    Trippier Gabriel Walker (Perraud Patterson)
    KDB Martinelli Almiron Rashford (Andreas)
    Kane Haaland Darwin

    2FT, 0.6ITB

Tempted to switch Kev to a Chelsea mid for the double, then immediately back again for his double.
Happy with the bench, Perraud has nice fixtures and is unlikely to be on the receiving end of a tonking for a bit. I don't have a crystal ball, but I expect Walker to start from now on.
Still not convinced Mitro will get both games, and don't know who to transfer out for him anyway.

    Any opinions please.....

There is but it has to be after each team has played 18 games I think. Gecause of postponements (the whole week that was postponed due to the Queen's death as well as others) nobody is at that point yet. Once it gets there then I think the limit is 10 (but I'm not sure if it's a 2 game suspension then?)
