Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth-round defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Friday night has ramifications for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

The Gunners’ elimination means that their Gameweek 28 fixture against Crystal Palace will go ahead as scheduled.

Gameweek 28 clashes with the FA Cup quarter-finals, so any top-flight teams still in the cup competition by that point will ‘blank’ in FPL.

At least four Premier League fixtures will definitely go ahead in Gameweek 28. The ones confirmed so far are:

  • Arsenal v Crystal Palace
  • Aston Villa v Bournemouth
  • Chelsea v Everton
  • Nottingham Forest v Newcastle

Already there’s a spine of a good Free Hit squad there, although many of us should be able to navigate our way to a competitive XI with free transfers given the existing popularity of Newcastle and Arsenal assets.

And more fixtures are almost certain to go ahead and be added to the above list. We’ll know more about that after the rest of this weekend’s FA Cup ties have played out, as well as after round five has taken place next month.

READ MORE: FPL Blank/Double Gameweeks: How the FA Cup + EFL Cup will have a say

ARSENAL’S UPCOMING RUN

There’s scant reason for FPL managers not to triple up on Mikel Arteta’s side now.

Not only do we have a guaranteed fixture in Blank Gameweeks 25 and 28, but we also have a confirmed Double Gameweek 23 for the Gunners and some excellent matches around it.

The four sides with the highest expected goals conceded (xGC) tallies in 2022/23, Everton, Leicester City, Bournemouth and Fulham, all face Arsenal in the next six Gameweeks.

MANCHESTER CITY’s UPCOMING RUN

Manchester City will blank in Gameweek 28 if either they or West Ham United reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Citizens are now only one win away from doing that themselves, and the Hammers are red-hot favourites to progress to round five given that they face League One side Derby County in Monday’s fourth-round tie.

City too have a Double Gameweek 23 and a guaranteed fixture in Blank Gameweek 25 but the exodus might begin after that point, with the division’s meanest defence (Newcastle United) and a probable ‘blank’ to follow in the subsequent three Gameweeks.

We’ll have more reaction to the FA Cup fourth-round ties and their implications for Blank Gameweek 28 after the weekend.

Despite many suggestions here, I am keeping KDB. Many managers will not be able to afford him in GW23. He is my ticket to the top 1k. Weghorst / Casemiro / Bruno will score similar points in GW22.

After stones got injured tonight, it’s really
got me thinking into using the WC. Here’s what my current team looks like.

    Kepa ward
    Trips botman shaw stones bueno
    Andreas kdb Rashy Marti Mount
    Haaland Kane Mitro

Going to be short of arsenal and city players next gw and could well take advantage of this gw by bringing in Leeds and United assets for 22 then arsenal city assets for 23. Thinking something like this.

    Kepa ward
    Trips Botman shaw white akanji
    Odegaard Marti Fernandes Rashy rodrigo
    Haaland Kane Mitro

    Lord help me

Who else is following the members article advice and ignoring Bruno?

Nothing but an assist merchant apparently.

The only problem is that weird things can happen in the double. Like Bruno only taking 2 shots across the 2 games but scoring from both of them.

Works for Kane 😉 Jokes aside, he is 4.1m and gets 1 point a game. That isn't bad and would be fine coming off the bench if it allows you to use the fund for an amazing upgrade elsewhere. Even if he were playing up front, you would only expect him to get 2 max.

That uncertainty is an issue when the reason for buying them is to have 'em play in the DGW and BGW

The uncertainty is the reason I'd suggest looking elsewhere in the template. But if you need that defender spot, maybe Ake over Akanji, as Cancelo and Gomez are clearly out of favour while Dias *might* still be a fitness issue

I've got Akanji and I'm keeping him until Pep clearly drops him or BGW28, whichever comes first. Had him since WC18, but I'm not so confident about getting him now

That FA Cup match removed my confidence in Haaland TC for DGW23, as I'll probably be reliant on the Villa game while expecting a double-decker parked by Emery

Now going to choose between Rashford in 22 and holding for Haaland or someone else in 34/37 or a mini DGW. With the way things are going, the title race might be over by then. Pep's already prioritizing other trophy opportunities, like the strong squad last night. Most likely going with BB in GW29, so I'm not looking at TC opportunities there

The Rashford-named bird in hand seems to be worth much more than the many birds in this very unclear bush

I'll TC Rash if the double gets confirmed, I think

Problem I have with Rash is his ceiling, doesn't get more than one goal a game.

      1. Ze_Austin
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

I don't see that as a good predictor of future returns, as he's not restricting himself to one goal

He's taking many shots, and just one has managed to enter (and not be ruled out) per game, while he's also capable of assists

The fact that he's confident enough to keep going for that goal means he *can* get more than one, but things just panned out that way so far, especially since Man U usually try to score more than once anyway, as they're not a parked bus

Alternatively... Have you noticed his attempts drop off in a match after his first goal?

I want to have Haaland, Kane, KDB, Bruno, Rashford, Saka, Ødegaard in my team. Then, switch Bruno to Mahrez.

    A. Play WC to get them.
    B. Take -8 hit to get them.
    C. Take -4 hit to have Mahrez for both weeks.
    D. Do not take any hits. Play Eriksen and Martinelli instead of Bruno and Ødegaard.

Cockneys? Arsenal are from North London. Cockneys are from East London.

If you are going to troll at least be factually accurate.

If on a wildcard which 3 Arsenal players would you choose?

A defender and 2 attackers or 3 attackers. Who would be your ideal picks?

The way I see it is - 3 attackers are smashing it but the defence has also been steady. So it’s more a question of what replaces the spot. Can you get a better defender or better attacker. Places are at a premium

      Rashford Marsh mitoma

        Oops didn’t finish

        Kane haaland nkeitah

        You can only play 7

Agree - currently on Odegaard, Saka and Nkeitah but feel a defender might give better balance

If you were to only have 2 attackers, who would you sacrifice though?

Difficult since nkeitah is on fire and over the last 5weeks he’s the best option so maybe him and Saka - I’ve got ode, saka and Gabriel (who I never play at the right time) - but I’ve had gabs and saka for a long time and structurally it was an easy to get ode. Would really have to think about what I get elsewhere to who I’d choose. Defence is a challenge- shaw n tripps + one other so could easily leave gabs on the pitch and stop messing with a city option allowing mahrez in midfield (currently bruno) - Kane has plenty of good fixtures ahead as do Brighton - too many options

Øde, Saka, Nketiah. I have Gabriel but if I WCed I would lose him since I don't really need him as much as I thought

Well I've had Gabriel sinxe restart but he's starting to feel a little bit redundant alongside Trippier, Schär, Shaw, with Moreno or someone as backup.

Have no City mids (and don't intend to get any) so more of a vacancy there.
