Throughout the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, our team of Pro Pundits, Hall of Famers and guest contributors will be sharing their thoughts, tips and own transfer plans.

Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser talks about Liverpool players now that their Double Gameweek 25 has been announced.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

Before you know it, more Double Gameweeks have been announced.

We recently got the news that Gameweek 25 will now be of both the Blank and Double variety. These are the teams that will play twice:

Now let’s talk about a few things. I have seen people being extremely close-minded towards getting in some Liverpool assets. Whilst I do understand such scepticism with the poor form they’ve been in, I am a firm believer that underlying data such as expected goals (xG) is a strong indicator of future returns.

UNDERLYING DATA

OTHER FACTORS

A couple of additional factors worth considering here are that Fulham won their FA Cup replay against Sunderland, meaning that Liverpool could still blank in Gameweek 28 if the Cottagers beat Leeds United in the fifth round.

We’ll only have this information after the Gameweek 25 deadline has passed, so we’ll have to roll the dice before knowing Liverpool’s future for sure.

Also, with Arsenal also having an attractive Double Gameweek 25, the need for Liverpool assets slightly reduces because managers will be just as likely to captain one of these assets instead.

Now defensively, I agree that Jurgen Klopp’s side has looked far from convincing and, even though van Djik might return, it’s the completely broken midfield that’s causing them to concede chances for fun. I’ll quietly observe their defence but am certainly more interested in their attack right now.

Moving on, there are a couple of things I wanted to add. James Tarkowski (£4.2m) is a budget-enabling gift at the moment, given that Sean Dyche’s Everton have a good immediate fixture run, including a Double Gameweek 25 and a confirmed outing in Gameweek 28.

They are one of the teams you should be assessing, especially if in need of a defender or goalkeeper. Assets are cheap and there’s a reason I said ‘Sean Dyche’s Everton’ and not just Everton.

Also, if you own Brighton and Hove Albion assets and are thinking of selling them for their Blank Gameweek 25, I would reconsider. Some of the predictors on Twitter are expecting a double for them in either Gameweek 26 or 27, so keep that in mind.

That is it from me this week. We dive deeper into the implications of Gameweek 25 and look at the upcoming doublers in this week’s episode of The FPL Wire which you can view below:

I think i'll get an Everton defender and a Wolves defender to cover holes in my team to field XI.

I have room for a Liverpool midfielder but i won't break the bank for Mo, and that doesn't leave much behind that unless Jota gets back ASAP.

    Cheers all. Help appreciated. 2FT

    Kepa
    Tripp - Botman - White
    Almiron - Rash - Bruno - Martinelli
    Toney - Kane - Haaland (C)

    Ward - Shaw - Andreas - Bueno

    A) Toney + Bruno > KDB + Nketiah
    B) Toney and Almiron/Andreas > Mahrez + Nketiah
    C) Toney and Shaw/Botman > Nketiah > City defender (probably Ake/Akanji/Lewis)
    D) Something else?

Can't decide between KDB and Mahrez. Cheers all

I think punt isa bit strong, 2 matches for a great player against not great defenses , I’ll have a piece of that.

He's a punt. Liverpool are awful. Salah is not playing well. 2,3,2,2,2 his past 5 games. It's a total punt on him finding form in a team that are actually playing with relegation form at the moment. No matter how the content creator Twitter lot dress it up as being their big genius pick that separates them from us mere mortals , its a coin toss at best

There is also 5 seasons of 230+ points for Salah, sure Liverpool is on the slide but he is proven goalscorer, one of the best assets we have last 5-6 years. You guys overreacting a bit, in a gameweek when a lot of popular teams blank he's not the worst to punt on. I need someone to fill the gaps in my team, should I rather pick Neves or Iwobi?

A few pressers today, belatedly sent over to me (all times in GMT):

    1.30pm - Cooper, Rodgers, Jones
    2pm - Conte

Also had one listed for ten Hag at 12pm, which I don't think is right (nothing reported on so far).

Think its also worth pointing out that its 5 games in 15 days for Liverpool, with the DGW wedged in between new RMA MUN. With Jota & Firmino returning from injury, maybe prudent to be wary of rotation in the DGW (for Darwin especially)?

Shhh let the hordes pretend to themselves it's the Liverpool of 19/20/21 and bring them in, it's no fun if nonsensical confirmation bias isn't being used for bad DGW picks!

Obviously it's not Liverpool of old but there is good xG data, 5 seasons in a row of Salah on 230+ points, stuff like that; punt, risk of course...but it's a game, if it backfires I'll get 2x2 from him, what's the big deal. Some of you guys treat FPL to serious I swear.

The fact that I'm making this joke should tell you I'm not taking this seriously, but I do find it funny how last week Liverpool were a disaster to most (and rightly so) and after a DGW is announced I'm seeing a lot of "Liverpool can turn it around"

Fair...many people (like me) will be missing 5-6 players and we have to fill these gaps with somebody, why not the guy who broke points scored record in FPL couple seasons ago, that's all I'm saying. Plus Salah's "terrible" stats since restart that were mentioned in some posts are on par with FPL darlings like Saka, Odegaard or Mitoma. Wish us luck 😉

I'm definitely not against punting on someone but I've seen a lot of people either looking at multiple Liverpool assets or tearing up their team for someone like Salah and I can't understand that. I do wish you luck though!

I’ll be getting Salah in, he might not be as great this year but we know he can explode! Also I still seem to have Darwin in my team so that’s enough pool for me, certainly no defenders

What are the best moves here? Currently for this week I am looking at either:

    A) Martinelli & Bruno to KDB & Saka (-4)
    B) Almiron to Mahrez (free)

    Current team:

    Kepa
    Trippier Ake White Shaw
    Rashford Bruno Martinelli
    Kane Nketiah Haaland

    Ward Almiron Andreas Patterson

Still deciding whether to TC Haaland this weekend. Just hope he can beat/match Rashford's score this week.

Bruno was the most creative player on the pitch last night. Laid on 2 early doors that Rashy couldnt convert. Then was instrumental down the right when Garnacho went off and Rashy moved left. If Antony is out again this weekend, Bruno would have that inside right channel to himself and leave Shaw cover the outside.

Apologies, it was Garnacho. You are right. He had a tonne of chances and in-the-box touches in the last 20 mins too. Plus, they way Utd are piling into the box (at pace) he could easily get another penalty very soon.

It’s been tough without Kane. Bruno+Toney to Saka and Kane for -4?
    Already got KDB.

How does this look for a FH GW25 team?

    Pickford
    White, TAA, Robertson, Dawson
    Salah, Saka, Odegaard, Neves
    Haaland, Kane

Not really gave it too much thought so far but Gabriel over White and double Liverpool attack over defence would be my initial thoughts

Thanks. My only worry with Liverpool attackers is I don’t know which ones will start and they’re all poo other than the Salah who always has the potential to haul even when he is out of form.

Liverpool have a busy schedule over that period. We could see TAA and Robbo rotated with Milner and Tsimikas. Same goes with the attackers. Just a bit early to be discussing FH25 for Liverpool assets.

    Thoughts on this?

I have to get one rid of Mitoma, Mount or Rashford for Mahrez/Saka.

Am I totally insane with thinking about shipping Rashford?

Has been in incredible form, but United looked off it yesterday and Rashford didn’t have many chanches at all. (That header was great, yes!)

Mitoma looks equaly as good and I save 1.8 on not shipping him.

Reason for keeping Mount is a fixture in gw25, that Rashford and Mitoma doesn’t have.

    Insane?

Yes. Especially when they play Leeds.

Sticking with Mount over Rashford is... not good

Is Lewis overrated? He has no goals or assists and hardly any clean sheets.

He has a goal in the UCL....

Find it strange you have assessed him as "overrated" only using those 3 metrics. Are you looking at him as a footballer or as an 3.9m FPL pick?

tbf he never said he was overrated.

Yeah, was more asking the question as I was debating bringing him in or not.

That's fair. I just think folks need to temper expectations as he is a 3.9m def. It seems Pep prefers Lewis to play the inverted FB role at left and right back. However he does seem to get subbed depending on game state.

Alisson and Robbo I think for me on wildcard. Been crashing and burning all season, it's time to engage the thrusters.

I am afraid of doing Bruno to KDB. Best creative player on the pitch last night. Could have had 20 points. Two great fixtures to come against teams that will give up chances.

Dont like B either. Kepa cant be opposed.

Really not sure Liverpool players can be described as 'assets'. An asset is something of value.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. How else could Liverpool spend 80m on someone who looks like an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Best move here? 1FT so (-4)

    A) Martinelli/Almiron > Saka/Ode
    B) Andreas/Almiron > Ode/Mahrez
    C) Almiron/Toney > Mahrez/Nketiah
    D) Some other variation

    Team for reference.

    Kepa
    Trip Shaw Zinc
    Martinelli Bruno Rashford Almiron
    Toney Kane Haaland
    Ward Andreas Bueno Patterson

    T

Presume you cant get to Saka Nketiah selling Almiron Toney?

Already have Zinchenko & Martinelli, so would have to be Toney/Martinelli > Saka/Nketiah.

That could work tbf but only leave me with Haaland from Citeh

Not such a bad thing. At least you know the ones you have will start. No guarantees with KDB and Mahrez right now. I own KDB but if he was Saka, i would prefer it.

    Pope
    Saliba Martínez Trippier
    Bruno KDB Rashy Martinelli
    Kane Haaland(c) Gnonto

Ward Andreas Bueno Thomas | 1FT and .9 ITB

Reluctant to lose Bruno for 2 potentially good fixtures. This move make sense or No?

KDB & Andreas >> Mahrez and Saka (-4)
