We continue to assess the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Gameweek 26 in our Scout Notes series.

Here, we focus on Aston Villa v Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur.

The numbers you see in this article are taken from our Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data from every single Premier League fixture.

Both matches produced 1-0 home wins, settled by Joachim Andersen‘s (£4.5m) own goal and Adama Traore‘s (£5.4m) rebound. In Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) and Harry Kane (£11.7m), they also featured disappointing blanks from popular FPL forwards.

The late defeat is a blow to Spurs’ top four ambitions, considering Liverpool reacted by beating Manchester United 7-0, whilst Crystal Palace are without a win in nine matches and now find themselves joint on points with previously-struggling Wolves.

WATKINS’ STREAK IS OVER

After scoring in five successive matches, almost 240,000 managers bought Watkins for a good run of fixtures starting at home to Palace. Naturally, such is the nature of FPL, the 27-year-old immediately blanked.

In a match where neither side produced a shot on target until the 74th minute, Watkins only had one penalty area touch. In fairness, he was right by Andersen for the own goal, as the intended target for Matty Cash‘s (£4.6m) cross.

Also, that sole in-box touch really should have been a goal. It was an absolute sitter. A brilliant Emi Buendia (£5.7m) pass put Watkins on the penalty spot, one-on-one with Vicente Guaita (£4.4m). Yet he somehow put this 0.66 expected goal (xG) shot wide

Touch Heatmap from our Members Area

With Leon Bailey (£4.4m) in and out of Unai Emery’s starting line-up, Watkins is still the best route into Villa’s attack for their promising Blank Gameweek 28 match against Bournemouth, followed by a Double Gameweek 29 and then Nottingham Forest (H).

PALACE LOOK BLUNT FOR DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 27

Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion are rightly getting the attention ahead of Double Gameweek 27, with Crystal Palace proving why their assets will likely be avoided.

Their only attacking moment at Villa Park was a Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) goal that was ruled out for offside. Adding to the concern of being winless since Gameweek 18 is that no team has had fewer big chances in this period.

That has to be good news for those with Manchester City, Brighton and Arsenal defensive coverage – these are the Eagles’ next three opponents.

Perhaps the return of Zaha, having missed the previous four matches because of a hamstring injury, will spark an upturn in fortunes. He’s scored six times during this campaign, following last time’s personal best of 14 goals.

He’s proven himself to be a reliable FPL asset, just not with penalty kicks – missing three of his last four.

IS KANE WORTH THE PRICE?

Headlines will state that Spurs have a bad week – following a midweek FA Cup elimination to Championship side Sheffield United – but they did have a higher number of shots (21 v 8) and expected goals (1.20 v 0.52) versus Wolves.

On a day when Pedro Neto (£4.9m) played his first minutes for Wolves since injuring his ankle in Gameweek 9, forward Diego Costa (£5.4m) was sadly stretchered off after 27 minutes.

They kept a clean sheet, meaning Kane blanked for the third time in four matches. He’s only once exceeded six points since Gameweek 19, making upcoming Wildcard users question whether he’s currently worth the premium price tag.

However, he almost registered an assist here, setting up one of two Spurs shots that hit the woodwork. His underlying stats show that he’s delivering plenty of goal attempts since the Gameweek 17 restart, beaten only by Martin Odegaard (£7.0m), who had 11 of his purely on Saturday.

His penalty area touches and big chances have been beaten by many others, though. For example, cheap Brighton midfielder Kaoru Mitoma (£5.4m) has more of the former and an equal amount of the latter.

Those wanting to pounce on Watkins, Ivan Toney (£7.7m) or even Brennan Johnson (£5.7m) – all of whom are cheaper, play in Blank Gameweek 28 and have a Double Gameweek 29 – should be aware that Kane is about to face Nottingham Forest (H), Southampton (a) and Everton (a).

Seems im 24 hours late to the party - but holding Salah when everyone sold and recommended selling was pretty sweet.

Looks like my non wildcard team is pretty close to the wanted template now, will get Mitoma in 29 as dont want to sell any of those 4 mids for a -4

    Steele
    Dunk Mee Trippier
    Salah Martinelli Saka Rashford
    Kane Toney (c) Haaland
    Ward White Andreas Kilman

Looking at rolling in 28 and getting Darwin Mitoma & Trent in 29 for a -4

Fair enough yes . I would probably do the same if not for my ML where most have Mitoma . I was on Mac this week and Mitoma next but sometimes you just have to limit damage yeah
so will get both with Odegaard and Mahrez out.

Liverpool don't have the best fixtures in gw 29 so Salah may be enough. that said watch their next game and if rampant then yeah

My main rival has Mitoma ( got him week 18) but im still playing what is best for my team, im still on a decent green arrow despite not having him.

Not worth another -4 and benching one of those front 7. It could go wrong but i think Martinelli will beat Mitoma in 27+28

Ya that is true - i may just wait until week 31 to get the liverpool guys

I can just keep Kane and get Nacho for Toney + Mitoma for Andreas and postpone the Liverpool double up until 31

Currently looking at fielding 8 in week 28 , 8 dgw +3 sgw in week 29 and playing a full 11 in week 32 with no hits planned and lots of flexibility

Week 28 is abit of a trap, i dont see anyone i really want who is worth the transfer and moving one of Rashford / Haaland / Salah out for

2 FT's, yet to take a hit too. Plan to FH in BG28, with Eddie out of the picture and Bueno cropped I think I need to. Double Spurs v Soton could be good. Will keep the wildcard for whatever crops up.

KdB & Eddie > Mitoma & Toney looks good to me.

    Leno
    Trippier Saliba Shaw
    Salah Rashford KdB Martinelli
    Haaland Nketiah Mitrovic

    Ward Andreas Tarkowski Bueno

I generally avoids hits 80% of the time

But would for sure be more aggressive around dgws when its more obvious with little risk, for you those moves make perfect sense.

That was my plan initially but since Martinelli may play striker and Fulham are without Paulinho i am playing Martinelli and not taking the hit for Mitoma

Will wait to get him for free in 29

I think Arsenal will score 3+ goals at Fulham.

While leeds away will be tight, 1-1 maybe and palace will also be rough for attackers - could be wrong but a similar 1-0 like score line

Its in 29 i see Brighton getting a good 4 + goals over the 2 games

very quick one - with both SOU and EVE being in bottom 3, is it likely that they ll play better than played so far & score vs BRE?

Have big dilemma with BRE defender/GK (have none, only Toney) and am mindful that these 2 games are away to teams that are probably most in need of points

thoughts? I 90% see an Everton goal vs BRE...

    1. IN SANE IN DE BRUYNE

I have two in Raya and Mee, but think one is enough.

Raya may not be bad for me at -4 (as he ll face some shots etc.) but transferring GK for just 1 week at -4 and selling Kepa screams trouble : ( : (

like if I know anything about PL, especially last 3rd of the games, is that relegation battling teams start producing

Will probably go without BRE and hope Kepa does well

Yep agreed, i bought him to fund another dgw (Mee) and sell Tarkowski , and only plan to play him for sure this coming week 27 dgw

I think he is a decent one week punt at least. I get to replace 2 single week players (Tarkowski dropping in price also) with two more doublers with 4 fixtures

I have Sanchez also (had him and Kepa since the break ) but would rather hold on this move. Far better GKs for 29 than Steele
Kepa if you have him could almost match or indeed beat Steele this gw

Ha, interesting. I sold Kepa for Steele for the funds

I basically went over the fixtures and prefer Wards fixtures to Kepas from week 29. So in worst case will play Ward

    DGW team:

    Sanchez*

    My team at the moment:

    Kepa
    TAA Trippier Gabriel
    Salah Rashford Saka Martinelli
    Haaland Toney Felix

I'm considering whether to FH in 27 to get something like:
    Raya*
    Trippier Mee* TAA
    March* Mitoma* Mcallister* Salah Ward-Prowse*
    Kane Toney*

Which would leave a team of 9 doublers in 29 (the team above but with Watkins for Haaland)
Or just get some Brighton with 2FT and FH in 29 to 11 doublers

What would you do? No BB left

First post in a long time. Could use some advice.

This is my team (2FT, 2.0m ITB)
    Kepa - Ward
    TAA - Trippier - White - Tarkowski - Perraud
    Salah - Saka - Rashford - March - Andreas
    Haaland - Toney - Nketiah

    My plans...
GW 27: TAA + Andreas >< Mee + Jensen to field 5 DGW players
GW 28: Haaland >< Kane to field 11 players
GW 29: Tarkowski >< any to field 8 DGW players

Basically I can cover these gameweeks without using a single chip. This could give me an advantage later on. Still don't know when to use my chips though. I still have all of them left. Any ideas?

I wouldn’t get rid of Trent personally with Bournemouth away this week. I’ve stuck with him and just stuck with the 4 doublers…

        Fixtures in GW27+GW28:
        TAA: bou
        Mee: eve, sou, LEI

Looks like a legit move to me if you know they have the same amount of total points this season, but TAA costs 2.2m more and didn't assist/score in a 7-0 win. No?

Hi DEVOS, you are also correct in what you say, it’s just that we all know what Trent is capable of and he’s due a haul and Bournemouth are shocking. Also gives me an extra transfer to field 11 in 28, but everybody has a different agenda don’t they…

Not a huge fan of the Brentford-couple either, but they might play 5 games in 3 fixtures. Any other suggestions?

Not super keen on those moves for this week tbh. Way more upside to Mitoma than Jensen & would rather sell Perraud/Tark than Trent right now. I know they don't have GW28 fixtures but fielding 11 really isn't essential. Better to take the long view I think.

Your squad is fine to get by without chips, but you're going to run out of big DGWs to play them. GW34 & 37 will have just 3 extra fixtures and you'll probably want to play TC in one of those since there's no obvious candidate in 29

Yeah, I'm trying to take the long view, but that's what I find difficult. I hate the fact that you don't know where the postponed fixtures will fit in. I was considering a WC in GW30 to fix my squad. Therefor I don't mind messing it up in the coming 3 gameweeks. I believe that could give me an advantage, since most will be stuck with alot of dgw players. Even though the next dgw's will be small, a BB and TC could still make an impact then. FH could be used in a coming blank week. That's what I was thinking right now. Not sure if it'll work.

You can pretty much figure out the future DGWs now. This might help:
          https://mobile.twitter.com/MikkelTokvam/status/1631067468687978500/photo/1

For some reason I can't connect to twitter at the moment so this list might be incomplete, but most likely it'll be...
          GW31:
          Newcastle v Brighton
          GW34:
          Brighton v Man Utd
          Liverpool v Fulham
          Man City v West Ham
          GW37:
          Man Utd v Chelsea
          Brighton v Man City

Basically, if you go to Ben Crellin's twitter - calendar spreadsheet & look at the outstanding fixture list in combination with the Tokvam chart above, you should be able to figure it all out

Just like to say that if you’ve had a really bad start to the season ( I had 5 Reds in first 5 gameweeks ) to just stick at it and stick to your game plan. I think a lot of Managers like myself had a horrendous start to the season and must of thought like packing it in but those first 5 or 6 completely went against the grain. Since G/W 6 I’ve had 3 Reds and 18 Greens. I’m still only on 402,000 but I’ve slowly climbed from just over 5 million so basically, what I’m trying to say is, it’s never too late. Good luck fellas with the rest of your season…

    Would you:

    A) wildcard or
    B) make four transfers (and bring in Brighton and Brentford players) for - 8?

    Team is:

    Kepa, Ward
    Trippier, White, Shaw, Walker, Tarkowski
    Salah, Rashford, Odegaard, Saka, Mahrez
    Haaland, Watkins, Mitrovic

    Thank you!
