We continue our analysis of the Gameweek 29 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) action in our Scout Notes series.

The focus here is on Leicester City v Aston Villa and Leeds United v Nottingham Forest.

Any numbers you see in this article are taken from our Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data from every single Premier League fixture.

WATKINS YET AGAIN

The formidable away form of Aston Villa continued at King Power Stadium, as did the superb scoring of Ollie Watkins (£7.5m).

He stayed onside to slot the ball past Daniel Iversen (£3.8m) in the 24th minute, taking him to eight goals from ten matches. In fact, since this run began in Gameweek 21, no FPL player has more points (72), big chances (12), shots on target (18) or expected goals (xGC, 6.14).

Attacking stats from our Members Area

It’s helped Unai Emery’s side win five of their last six matches, with consecutive victories at Chelsea and Leicester City making it six from eight on the road. Now seventh in the league, they are very much in the hunt for European football and are about to face Nottingham Forest – more on them below.

MADDISON CRAMP

For opponents Leicester, it was the second successive game where a late winner was conceded and this pain worsened when their stoppage time penalty was overturned once the referee saw a pitchside replay. By this point, the Foxes were down to ten men due to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall‘s (£4.9m) red card.

Harvey Barnes (£6.7m) made it 1-1 by bagging his tenth goal of the season and, in terms of scoring, this Premier League campaign is now his personal best. Yet curiously he’s still without any bonus points at all.

Far more FPL managers had placed their faith in James Maddison (£8.3m) – 45.35% of the top 100k – but the midfielder blanked against both Crystal Palace and Villa in this double. He was replaced in the 85th minute but because of cramp, rather than an injury.

Should he not produce at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, expect many frustrated Maddison sales, as the managerless Foxes sit 19th in the league table.

NO KAMARA FOR VILLA

One absentee for Villa was defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara (£4.8m), whose weekend return from an ankle injury was prematurely ended after 45 minutes at Chelsea.

Not named in last night’s squad, Unai Emery wasn’t able to give any information on the problem.

“I don’t know, sadly. I don’t know.” – Unai Emery, when asked if Kamara will play on Saturday

Therefore, Kamara has now been flagged on the FPL site as a doubt for Saturday.

MORE AWAY MISERY FOR FOREST

With or without Kamara, they will be confident of a home victory versus Nottingham Forest who, unlike Villa, have a terrible away record.

This 2-1 defeat to Leeds means they’ve accumulated just six points from 14 trips, netting just five times. On a slightly more positive note, four of these goals have arrived in their last six.

Orel Mangala (£4.9m) gave them an early 1-0 lead at Elland Road but this was overturned by half-time thanks to Jack Harrison (£5.7m) and Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m). Forest couldn’t find an equaliser and are now only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

It’s a defeat that puts manager Steve Cooper under severe pressure. Their last win came in February’s reverse fixture with Leeds and that put opposing coach Jesse Marsch out of a job, although owner Evangelos Marinakis has already put out a statement today confirming that Cooper will remain.

Regardless, FPL managers certainly won’t be selling Watkins or Villa defenders before the weekend.

unfortunately I've got Isak, Kane and Haaland but Kane gives me possibilities if I want to shake it up.

Yeah I think Kane is going to go for me. Appreciate no new manager but nothing from them vs Everton suggests a miraculous turn around is on the cards whoever takes over. Kane is ticking over nicely, but if you don't captain him his value isn't there

Yeah, Kane is consistent but I just can’t see him getting any hauls in that team at the minute. There’s better value elsewhere

Ignoring him was not my finest hour, but no room for him now & its too late to buy him just for Forest. But that game is going to be painful

Kind of in this boat too, need to prioritise transfers for GW32 and went Isak over him this week. Not overly disappointed in the decision, he looked excellent v ManUtd so I'm sure pts will come. If Toney gets booked tonight I might do it but similarly I mat actually just need to hold out on him as he'd then be back for GW32

With Kane, Isak and Toney no room for him though. Toney getting yellow would make me go for him over Haaland though, maybe, perhaps, eventually. Probably not though as Haaland is back.

Not sure I'd bring him in at this point. I have him and am looking to sell in the next couple weeks. Transfers should be focussed on building for 32/34, whatever chip strategy you're deploying

He seems a decent swap for Toney given his form and Toneys impending ban (YC and the main one)

Think I’ll do that. Can’t face more Watkins pain on my rank

Good afternoon all!!! Got 2.6 in the kitty!!! Thinking I might actually save FT this week… this team should be okay to go without Haaland this week right???

    Kepa
    Chilwell James Mings
    Bruno Saka Rashford Madison
    Kane Toney Watkins
    Subs Neto Mitoma Trippier Estupinan

Haven’t decided on my line up yet with Mitoma and Trippier potentially making the starting 11!!

    Advice welcomed!!

    Cheers everyone!!

That is a save as you can't afford Toney to Haaland anyway. I've got Mitoma starting over Maddison. Probably Mings just about edges it over Trippier. Difficult one

Cheers mate!! Yeah initial plan was Chilwell and Toney to Haaland and Tarkowski but I’m thinking about saving FT now, yeah I think Mitoma has to steer probably too, just feels strange benching a player at home to Bournemouth haha, Mings and Trippier close but I’ve just started mings on the basis of being more likely to keep a clean sheet

No it’s certainly not ideal mate, no FH left so it would be an extra player for 32 however

yep, you've got a decent team but downgrading Maddison in budget can help to get Haaland and you've got Mitoma to play.

I realise avoiding hits pays off too.

I have a similar decision to start 3 of Chiwell, James, Shaw, Trippier, Estupinan. What do you reckon? I think I'm benching Estupinan, starting Chilwell & Shaw, and undecided between James/Trippier

Really close mate!!! James has undoubtedly got the better fixture over Trippier, just the nagging thought of him being rested and a one point cameo, I’m sure Trippier Doesn’t get a clean sheet against Brentford

If Toney gets a yellow card tonight (I too have no FH32), then we have to get Haaland (if we have Watkins).

I'd probably sell James/Toney if that were to happen. I always play Trippier anyway 🙂

I am selling Chillwell next week.

I am holding Kane until 31 then to Salah GW32 I think and Haaland to Greenwood 🙂

Its very difficult to decide to go or not to go with Haaland if you have no FH left

If Toney gets a yellow tonight it makes things sooooo much easier haha
The problem with selling James this week is there I only have a budget of 4.1 to get a defender and there not many options whereas selling chilwell I can atleast get Tark who’s guaranteed to start, I can sell Maddison to Andreas however and means I can afford to have all of Salah and Kane and Haaland!! No FH is making the decision to get Haaland or not a bit tricky, as it involves a hit to get him in and a hit in 32 and potentially a hit to get him back after 32

Ah ok, so its essentially double Watkins & Kane with one cancelled out. The formatting is still f-ing with my head a bit tbh. Anyway, I would prioritise Haaland 1st, maybe Kane 2nd for the next 2 GWs & then sell Kane for Salah if that works

      A, C D

James most likely to get a rest. I'd go with Trippier. Newcastle defensively away is still so impressive, like Arsenal

Even if Toney does play, most of his goals are away from home i think i remember reading somewhere. Certainly happening this week (so far 🙂 )

Cheers Crunchie. Yeah Brentford home games are generally tighter than away. Had originally planned to bench James, will have to think on that & check some predicted lineups. A Toney booking tonight would probably make the decision easier too

Got myself in a bit of a pickle as I did a last minute transfer of Saka to Bruno - now not got enough funds to get Haaland without a hit unless I loose Kane.

    Would you:-
    A. Havertz and Mbeumo to Haaland and say Geeenwood (4.0m) for a -4
B Havertz OR Mbeumo to Alvarez
C Kane to Haaland - no hit required

Bench boost played so not worried about a 4.0m non starter and will be free hitting in 32

    Current squad:

    Kepa DDG
    Dunk, Henry, Mings, Trippier, Chilwell
Salah, Rashford, Bruno, Mitoma, Mac Allister
    Kane, Havertz, Mbeumo

    Thanks in advance

B looks a little too punty I think. Generally when we've been worried about a pre-UCL rest for Haaland it hasn't actually materialised. Rest of your attackers look strong enough to be perma-starters (with some decent defenders for 1st bench) so I think I'd go for A

Its a move most of us are going to have to make at some point, unless we punt on a Man City midfielder instead of Bruno (for me anyway)

Greenwood fodder (although might punt on Ferguson if funds allow - currently no Brighton defenders)

Greenwood for me as it'd allow me the funds to do Henry to Ake for City's doubles.

2 FT's, Haaland priority but who to go?
Thinking Toney & Salah to Haaland & Grealish, may even go one further & -4 to replace Estu/Zinc for a different defender (Shaw/Stones):

    Raya (Steele)
    Trip / Chil / Estu (Zinc/Pinnock)
Ode / Salah / Rash / Saka (Mac Allister)
    Kane / Toney / Watkins (c)

Any advice, much appreciated as per. Could all change after tonight's fixtures I'm sure

    1. Play Raya or Kepa? Starting Chilwell as well.

Been thinking about Raya for save points but maybe Kepa for CS as Wolves been poor. Really tempted to go Maddison to Grealish for a hit, considering it as a long term move for all City doubles.

1FT What to do. 5.5 mil want to bring in Haaland
    Steele
    Trippier Shaw Chilwell
    Salah Martinelli Saka Rashford
    Watkins Toney Havertz
    (Raya-Mitoma-MIngs-Henry)

    A. Haaland for Havertz or Toney

I've still got free hit and wildcard to play.
When would be the best weeks to play each considering my team below?
I'm thinking free hit 32 and wildcard 34 as that seems to be the trend, but I'm trying to catch up 50 points in ML so might try something different.

    Ddg - Iverson
    Trippier - Chilwell - Gabriel - Estupinan - Henry
    Saka - Mitoma - March - Maddison - Rashford
    Kane - Toney - Felix

    $3.1 ITB 1FT

    Thanks

Assuming Haaland completes all training sessions without any issues, he will start this weekend imo. I cannot see him making a sub app instead. He has only come on twice as a sub this season when City are chasing for a win, GW15 vs Fulham and QF League cup vs Soton

Torn my ACL, MCL & meniscus playing football and I’m having surgery at the end of the month.

I haven had this injury myself but know people who have and what I would say is the quicker you can get into a swimming pool the better (obviously wait for doctor recommendations and post op would to fully heal etc) . water exercises for strengthening and overall recovery really seemed to help. if you can find somewhere with an underwater treadmill further down the line then all the better.

It happened 6 months ago and finally having surgery.
Been doing a fair bit of strength and balance work in the gym to get it as strong as possible, but I’ll definitely have to stick to pool based stuff for a while post op.
