Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser decides which in-form Newcastle United forward is his favourite pick.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

We’re in the final stretch of what feels like a season that has gone on forever. I wanted to touch base on a talking point that’s worth diving deeper into.

One upcoming decision for a lot of FPL managers is whether to buy Callum Wilson (£7.0m) or Alexander Isak (£6.9m). The former has scored eight times in just 395 minutes since Gameweek 29, which means he is scoring a goal every 50 minutes – this is ridiculous.

He’s in the form of his life and, in my opinion, Newcastle United don’t have much reason to ‘protect’ him with only four league games to go. Each is nicely spaced out.

The underlying numbers of Wilson and Isak since Gameweek 29 are quite telling. In this period, Wilson has had 395 minutes while Isak has had 542. Outside of expected minutes, Wilson destroys Isak on almost every single metric and I think there’s only one winner here.

We’ve entered an age where expected minutes seem to dictate everything in FPL and I think this seems like an exceptional situation. Let me just state some of the relevant statistics between the two.

Not a conundrum I would’ve anticipated start of season:

    A) Steele (EVE)

Have a frontline of Haaland, Isak and Greenwood, 1.7 ITB Also Trippier and Schar. What do i do in GW36?

    A - Isak-> Wilson
B - save FT in GW35 and do Schar, Greenwood -> 3.9, Wilson

As have, or rather had double B'ton defence (Steele and Estupinian). I decided to shift Toney and take a punt up front with Cisco with Estupinian to Scha,r ahead of next week. I know Cisco has had limited minutes but looked good on the eye with plenty of chances against United. B'ton mids rotating as well. ..........Am I going to regret this??

    1. WhatWouldYourZlatanSay
      • 10 Years

It’s always possible but considering they’re next GWs, no. All Brighton attackers will get rotated and Cisco is cheap, will get minutes and frees up midfield where there are ultimately many more interesting options.

Good article, well argued. I definitely see the appeal of Wilson but will in all likelihood keep my triple of Trippier, Schar and Isak.

Contributing factors include projected minutes, clean sheet potential and the fact I would have to bench one of Salah, Bruno, Rashford, Mitoma (double) or March (double). I’m also hoping to save a FT for 37.

Each to their own. Those bringing in Wilson could benefit massively but it’s just not for me right now.

Useful if we knew who that would be. I can see why people want to double but I still like their defence despite the lack of clean sheets recently

If the trend continues the one who starts vs arsenal will sit out vs leeds i guess.
If you have schar yes, but not very confident with my botman. Doesnt provide much attacking threat and prone to Def errors

Saying that he got a attacking return last game!!

I just think with them being so attacking atm they are not as secure at the back

The trend from GW28, when they've both been fit, has been that Isak starts, apart from if there is a midweek game then Wilson starts. Whether this trend continues remains to be seen.

I disagree with sticking. I have Botman, Trippier and Isak. Next week will be Jota and Trippier to Wilson and City defender. Allows me to do Grealish to Bruno for DGW 37.

Got Botman and don't feel Newcastle defence is strong enough to justify a double up against some good attacking opposition for the double up, so shifting out Botman and getting Wilson (have Isak) current favourit move

Unless a leak on the City game causes me to take a punt this week...

Fair enough. That is a good move. I still like the look of Newcastle defensively (eye test and stats) but your moves are justified. Schar has also threatened a lot recently, unlucky not to have a goal added to his recent assists
