The reality is Salah is looking like he is going to be fairly differential and will be an excellent differential captain pick GW2.

It will also force you to include one or two players like Jao Pedro, Danjuma etc.

That being said, LR will go with Salah, it seems right up his street.

I reckon I'd drop Martinelli down to a 6.5 mid to make that first draft affordable. Maybe even Trossard if we think he starts v Forest.

I really like the £6.5m bracket this year. Absolutely no aversion to going with two of them. They're the sort of picks which fly up in value early doors too.

Yep, exactly my thinking. I'd be more than happy starting with two of Eze/Mbeumo/Diaby/Mitoma.

And you've got Barnes/Gordon/Almiron to come into that in the next few weeks. Morgan Gibbs White too.

I have strongly considered this too. But do you go Eze/Diaby with great rotation, or with two that you'd aim to play both most weeks (Mitoma/Mbeumo)

For the Salah draft you could do Pedro to a 4.5 and Kabore to Gabriel and play 451

I had that draft for a while, but Defenders were crappy last season. Don't want 4 of them. Inverted full backs makes defences even worse IMO.

Switch away from Back 5s to Back 4s now makes £5-£5.5m wing backs less interesting too.

Never mind, this doesn't work, he was 1.0 short already 🙂
Dropping Martinelli to a 6.5 seems the only way to go if you really want Salah.

        It's pretty straightforward really.

It's easy to pick a team this year.
I got a squad I like and 3.5m in the bank.

Agree in a sense. But is the squad that you like better than the squad everyone else will have?

It's easier to pick a squad for you, but it's also easy for everybody else.

You're not competing against last years squads.

Guess what I'm saying is that you can easily pick a strong balanced squad full of well known and reliable fpl picks. There is no need to be cunning or put a ton of research to stay within budget and have decent team.

Kane always seems to be consistent rather than explosive like Salah. Hopping between in form cheaper strikers can match him, but not necessarily easy to predict.

Salah has always been a favorite of mine, but he ruins my preferred team.

It is not as obvious to include Mo as it once was, so long as Haaland is fit and on the pitch, as well as being the best captaincy option for the majority of the gameweeks. I'm not convinced that starting with him is worth the sacrifices and downgrades.

Have to say I find the Nketiah discourse fascinating from a non-FPL point of view.

    At CF, Arsenal have:
    - Gabriel Jesus, who they just bought last season but has had a habit of picking up injuries over the years and is now out for at least a number of weeks
    - Balogun, but it seems like he's not at all favoured by Arteta despite having an excellent season in France last season and reportedly having a lot of admirers. Or at least this seems the case because it seems nobody here or anywhere expects him to feature despite Jesus' injury
    - Nketiah, who is supposed to be Jesus' understudy, but was dropped pretty quickly last year while deputising once Trossard (nominally a winger or wing forward) arrived. Other players like Martinelli seemed to drop off and not be as effective with him on the pitch

So what's the plan here for Arsenal then? Can't be sure if Jesus can stay fit (especially as this is related to the injury he got last year), doesn't seem like Nketiah is viewed as being good enough to step into Jesus' spot unless it's just to rest him for a few minutes, and Balogun doesn't even seem to be in the picture. More people seem convinced that Trossard will play at CF than anyone else right now

    1. Mirror Man
        2 years, 4 months ago

The plan should be to hopefully qualify for the champions league and next year buy a striker.

Personally I don't think Arsenal play as well when Nketiah is leading the line. They lose quite a bit of fluidity. Trossard is fine but maybe Havertz starts up front v Forest. Odegaard/Partey/Rice in midfield.

Might be just me, but it feels like he's always under more pressure to score goals when he gets his chance in the team, so can be less of a team player than Jesus.

Nketiah was the first choice to replace Jesus last season. I have no idea where this idea of him being dropped quickly came from, but it seems everyone believes it. He played 9 full 90' games in the PL, while nursing an injury, I believe, in Jesus' absence, before being benched for 2 and getting fully crocked.

I've had a further look and you're right so that's my bad, I saw people discussing it the other day and didn't see anyone naysaying it so assumed it was right. Still, I just find it weird that it seems like a lot don't see Nketiah leading the line in Jesus' absence

            • 9 Years

It's hard for me to keep up with the constant demands of my naysaying duties!

I think most people are saying it's between him and Trossard, which makes, since they were the two who stood for Jesus last season. Nketiah is the default option, I would say, but given how great Trossard has been consistently, including in pre-season, I don't think Arteta would have any qualms in playing a non-striker there. Well, I mean, Trossard really can strike a ball, so that's not an issue haha. City played with Trossard-types in the CF position for quite sometime before the Haaland opportunity arose, so I wouldn't bet against Trossard. But Arteta has also stayed faithful to Nketiah's training workrate and ability by playing him ahead of Trossard when it mattered, and giving him a relatively lucrative contract, so I wouldn't bet against him either! Both perfectly capable at fullfiling the needs of the role/team imo.

It will crystallise for Balogun pretty quickly if he's no nearer to selection.

It would be surprising if Havertz is used there again but for Arsenal this time.

So you'd think that Nketiah and Trossard might share duties.

It's an interesting observation that you make.

Similar to mine with no Pool cover.

Not set on 2nd striker tho and have mitoma over ur mbeumo and Trossard over Foden but my bench pretty much the same too as I know il want these guys soon if they look good so saves transfers too.

3,5 ITB with goal being flexibility without early WC use

      Flekken - Strakosha

      Chilwell - Gabriel - Estupinan - Udogie - Baldock

      Rashford - Saka - Foden - Maddison - Mitoma

      Haland - DCL - Adebayo

352 formation, Udogie over Botman to avoid price drop, DCL as my funny punt

      better duo :
      A) Pickford + Saliba
      B) Ramsdale + Tarkowski

Unless you're rotating Tarkowski, probably A just because of the Raya situation

I think Raya is not coming to ARS to replace Ramsdale, but to provide cover (as Matt Turner wants to leave for first-team apperances to keep USA GK spot) and to challenge Ramsdale to keep improving instead of getting comfortable. But ARS would not give Ramsdale such contract if they were looking to move on...

B for me as I expect Tarkowski to provide more threat than Saliba and even though I expect Pickford to make more saves than Ramsdale, I think Ramsdale will hold more CS and score more anyway.

I'm trying to find 1m like Lateriser.

      The option I'm on is

J.Pedro and the 2 4.0m defenders to Tark (play GW1 v FUL), Cash (play GW2 v EVE) and 4.5m forward, then Salah and 4.5m forward out GW3 for the Watkins and a mid up to 9.0m (Son maybe). It leaves 2 4.5m defender on the bench however.

I have a very similar plan. GW2 Salah (c) just feels too good to pass...

I do remember Liv winning Bou 9-0 and Salah blanking. His underlying numbers were good though.

Two 4.5s on the bench not a big deal, imo.

I have Tarko and Colwill now. Cash is also tempting, but I can see Colwill being better long term option. However, Cash has been great asset for me with his 29 pt haul when others had Digne, so strongly considering him also.

This article is bollocks - the team for the Salah draft is worth £101m so the whole analysis and justification for different picks and players left out after means nothing. Pretty lazy stuff!

I did actually read it but just focussed on the parts about the players and so missed this bit. My own fault I suppose. Sorry for jumping to conclusions for Lateriser!

My Salah team if Nkunku is fit would look something like this

      Johnstone
      Gabriel Estu Botman
      Salah Saka Bruno Mbeumo Mitoma
      Haaland Nkunku

      4.0; Henry, Kabore, Mubama

No love for Silva? With Gundo and Mahrez gone, I think he's going to have more share of the attacking points.

I would think so as Gundo and Mahrez have left and he can play in both positions.

As it stands and if he stays happy I think he's great. Fantastic price and he's playing a lot of minutes for sure with Mahrez gone.

I like punts so I would go for B, but to be honest, A is probably better for GW1. Maybe do that and go for Mitoma and sell him after initial first 3 games for your punt?

Why aren't people looking at Jackson as a replacement for Jesus/Nkunku? He's nailed till Nkunku is back I would think no?

Vlahovic is very close to signing for Chelsea, but yeah Jackson should be CF starter,at least for a while

He's not very close. It's been discussed but is very far from being 'very close'. Jackson is nailed for now, whether Nkunku is fit or not.

Some fear of Vlahovic? But I read somwhere (can't seem to find the article now) that he's not in great shape & there's a risk he would fail a medical, plus I'm on an early WC plan so I'm not too worried. He was already in my team ahead of Jesus (different ARS trio)

Also his preseason mins currently total 13 so it seems unlikely he'd immediately displace Jackson as a starter

Plus Vlahovic wants to stay at Juve. If that deal goes through it will be reluctantly.

Not criticising the Watkins pick, I've had him over Jesus from the off. I was going to go Nkunku, but if he's injured Jackson plus 0.5 ITB could be how I go with uncertainty about Liverpool attackers.
