Ummm. Digne? Hasn't he hurt you enough over the years?

Botman will be 4.3 by start of September.

He’s not going to drop value based on 3 games. And Digne isn’t one I’ve picked for a year or two but he’s 4.5 and looks to have regained LB from Moreno in an improving side.

I have Barnes in my mind, but i will take hım after GW3. His first three are
      Villa
      City
      Liverpool

Ortega has played more pre season mins than Ederson.

He was playing like Onana yesterday.

Ederson was kinda pap last season.

Well, please consider this a kindly intervention to suggest that you might consider hitting 'reply' on the post you are directly replying to (often the original post on the thread) rather than the latest comment on that thread. I just noticed it's something you do that can add unnecessary friction to discussions (mostly through confusion).

What is your favorite AVL-defender for 4.5M?

    A) Mings
    B) Cash
    C) Pau Torres
    D) Konsa
    E) Diego Carlos
    F) FPL TROLL DIGNE surely nobody considers him right?

I think I might take the pun on Pau Torres. Class defender, played already under Emery and think he'll do well. Also attracted by Konsa bc he will be most nailed.

Ming's all day, the natural leader, goal threat. The fullbacks at villa are the most at risk of benching. Emry will be playing 3cb + 1rb or lb

Cash most upside to start but not nailed & will need shifting in a few weeks once Moreno is back. Been warned by Villa fans that Pau might miss the odd game initially. Definitely not Carlos. Mings/Konsa should be ok but I'm just going to wait for Moreno

I don't understand why people think Cash isn't nailed. He's played the most minutes in preseason of any Villa player (except Douglas Luiz).

Moreno is a LB not a RB. The only competition he has is if they change shape and play Konsa RB. I really don't think it's likely they do this either.

Well yeah this asymmetrical setup is exactly what I expect to happen given what I've read from Tom & others and the experiments with 3 CBs + Cash/Digne preseason.

Cash is nailed until Moreno comes back, who Emery rates as better than Cash. Only one can attack in Emery's system.

            • 4 Years
            2 years, 6 months ago

I don't think u get it Cam,there is no change of shape when Konsa is at RB and Moreno/Digne at LB.
Emry will always have 3cbs in possession with 1 wingback bombing right or left so it becomes a 3-5-2. Moreno is better than Cash imo and Emry seems to favour him too.

        Yeah, I do.
Even if Kane is leaving. Haaland already had issues towards the end of last season and his form has been poor since. Plus, Gündogan gone, KDB just back and.maybe more rotation with Alvarez. If Bermardo is leaving as well, it could cause big issues for ManCity's midfield and its ceativity.

On the other hand, the risk of playing against the template is huge and I'm not sure if I'm ready to throw away the whole season in the first few weeks already.

Anyone interested in trying out draft mode? Thinking about setting up a draft league for this season. There have been 3 people + me who have expressed interest, so currently 4 in total. Was originally thinking that the league would be quite small of maximum 6 managers so still room for at least 2.

Would like to get the draft started either tomorrow or on Wednesday, today could also be ok if it is ok for others as well. I live in Finland so my time zone is UTC+3. Head to head and classic scoring are both fine for me. If you are interested comment below with suggestions on the schedule.

If Kane is staying then I think I'd really like Maddison over Foden, looked excellent yesterday especially after seemingly having a few rough games. He won't replace Kane's points but he looked like he linked up with him well and he found himself in the box a lot. I can't get to Kane unless I get rid of Salah which I don't want to do, but at least having Salah means I can get to him in a couple of moves if needs be.

That being said I am still not going to completely rule out starting with Kane. I think I'll be making a fair few last minute moves. So I'm curious on opinions:

          A) Salah + Maddison
          B) Kane + Jota

One is undoubtedly more of a rotation risk than the other but if I go without Salah I feel I'll have to have some Liverpool attacker. I also at the moment have 1m itb and am wondering if I should keep it or if I should spend it on Colwill to Chilwell but I can ponder that another time perhaps

Oof that is a tough call. I'd say if you plan to ever captain Salah or Kane, then that is your pick.

Imo, Kane and Jota has a higher upside, Salah and Maddison has a higher EV. Depends on your risk appetite!

Cheers, good points. Jota has tempted me a lot this summer despite rotation risks as he's very capable of hauling in either full games or short sub appearances and I do feel he's ahead of Diaz even if not by a lot

The goals v Shakhtar change nothing for me. If we don't get any decision on Kane this week I'd still be wary of starting with him & needing 2 FTs to shift him for Salah. He doesn't really help with GW2 captaincy either. So still Salah for me & rethink Kane GW3 at the absolute earliest

What I read was that Kane has said if he's not gone by this Friday then he'll consider the matter done with and that he's staying until next season, out of respect to the fans, squad and Postecoglu in particular. But all fair points. I haven't wavered on Salah so far so I guess it's silly to do it now. I know Spurs will score with or without him but with him it'll definitely be more and more centralised on him

I was wondering whether to pair him with Johnstone.

Saves £s over my current pick.

Seems like a nice pairing, but (a) the Leicester 4m combo was a disaster, and Forest's 4m wonder Neco Williams was a flop. All this just one year ago.

True. Johnstone would play most games.

At least up until 1st Wc, which I usually play early on when the transfer biz is sorted.

Yeah, if you're committed to spending 8.5m on your keepers, it's prolly the best pairing. Just don't expect much in terms of Forest clean sheets.

A bit rigid, how does it look?

          Leno (4.0)

          Chilwell - Martinez - Cash (4.0 - 4.0)
          Saka - Rashford - Trossard - Buendia
          Haaland - Kane - Jackson

Could do Martinez and 4.0 to Botman and Colwill.

          Thanks!

Before y'all slate Buendia too much, guy has scored in his last 2 games v Everton and last 2 games a v Burnley. And with the added double v Newcastle in preseason, could be a gr8 differential. Zero could be onto a winner here

          Just a thought....

Does the new rule with added time mean that it's a bit pointless splashing out on defenders, as surely clean sheets are statistically less likely now? Watched a couple of EFL games over the weekend, and both had 17-19 minutes added time in total. Does it perhaps make players without a big attacking threat, like Gabriel much less appealing, since they have to survive about 105-110 minutes for a clean sheet, as opposed to the 95-97 minutes of previous seasons?

Marginally for sure. More than that - remains to be seen. Arguably it gives your Estupinans, Chillwells, James' and Trippiers more time to haul.

Yeah either scrimp on defence like me or go for players likely to get high attacking returns as clean-sheets points less likely.

What are folk's thoughts on Stones & Man City defence?..I want Stones in but currently have Chillwell, Gabriel and Estu as expensive def's..

Currently my draft has Haaland and Salah in too, easier to swap Salah out if he isn't firing compared to getting him in.

City conceded the fewest goals last season, and had by far the lowest xGC. They've now signed Gvardiol.

Personally I'm doubled up with Stones and Dias.

I'm tempted by Dias. I've got the same 3 defenders as you. I might bench Chilwell GW1 and not convinced by Estu's fixtures after a few weeks.

Is Rashford essential? Didn't have exactly stellar pre-season, there's so many good picks on midfield for cheaper, and could see Bruno covering ManU attack for now.

Rashford is on every draft and atm I can't really see why.

I remember when Van Gaal had us looking like world-beaters in preseason - battered Liverpool and Bayern, put 7 past LA Galaxy, beat Roma and Inter.

Lost to Swansea on opening day, then dropped points against Sunderland and Burnley.

Preseason means bog all except fitness.

I would hope so but it really wouldn’t shock me if Sancho started. Garnacho’s been at his best when running at tired legs, though I thought he was great against Lens.

Sancho has been very deliberately played as striker cover for Rashford in pre season, he even played CF yesterday in the second team against Bilbao in Dublin.

I was set on Bruno until that pre season game. Mount was as advanced (if not more) and Rashford playing CF.

I have Rashford but would probably go Mount and 1.5m over Bruno based on that game.

It wasn’t the lack of a G/A that put me off, it was that he was deeper than I anticipated.

The position he played put him below Rashford and Mount in terms of value for money

Its not his fault no one else can do what he does 😆 they are fluid and he makes the same runs but no one finds him so they aren't shown in the highlights. He wasn't deep. He just created amazing opportunities from deep.

Creating a ghost team for the season, how does it look? What players do you think are season keepers?
Only a first draft theres players I still need to weigh up

          Onana
          Chilwell - Gabriel - Saliba - Martinez
          Salah (v) - Saka - Mitoma - Eze - Macallister
          Haaland (c)

          Alvarez - Pedro - Botman

It would make more sense to start Alvarez.

          Stones/James, Estu, Gab
          Mart, Saka, Rash, Foden
          Haaland, Darwin, Watkins

Think he's good to play at least 70 minutes for the first 5 gameweeks.

100% while Nkunku is out. Probably nailed when he's fit too, unless they sign Vlahovic.

England number 7 sent off then penalties? I’ve seen this one before, unfortunately.

          Morning everyone.

Are we sleeping on Mudryk? An attack-minded midfielder playing under an attacking manager and who’s already scored pre-season.

He could be in everyone’s team by GW3 but more nailed on and safer options at the same price to start with.

Easy to get to him if he starts well.

Not a bad pick and might turn out to be a very good one. Personally think we'll be jumping between 6.5 mids as the season goes on.

We are sleeping on Mudryk for all the right reasons. I would give him at least a few weeks or months to prove me wrong and to consider him as an option. There are so many better picks for £6.5 million at the moment.

Is it actually viable to go with a fodder bench this season? Looks like there are quite many starting 4.0 defenders. Personally always been keen on having at least 2 players on the bench who get guaranteed minutes.

It's doable but the 4's are so shite that I don't like it.

I'm sure before this season's game was released, they mentioned about new features or a new format?

            Were there any?!

              Horse pulling the wagon.

Bit early. Need some signs he's starting and sharp.

              On my watchlist.

Even if he was as good as he was, the fact he plays for Everton is a deterrent in itself.
