If they stopped promoting gambling and advertised Persil instead would the site shut down due to lack of revenue? Unfortunately, football and gambling are inexorably linked nowadays and it's not going to go away.

How did the site survive before they started taking gambling money then?

It used to be a one man show about a man's hobby with maybe three or four articles a week. It's grew arms and legs since then and now It's a business and the people involved in it have got to eat.

I've been here 12 years and you're giving me some fairy tale nonsense about how the site used to be?

A lot of the new articles you're talking about are adverts for betting type sites. Articles are also written by the community for free.

It's purely profit driven and the potential revenue streams we're seeing now, once again linking football to gambling, is the reason someone bought the site from Mark in the first place

I could be wrong, but I doubt that the editorial team has much control over the commercial side of things. If anyone is going to make a statement, it should come from the owners of the company.

I'm stunned at how much a differential Salah is in my main MLs. There are a few Liverpool fans in particular who always have him even in his worst spells and even they don't have him

I’ve steered clear thus far. His goals in pre-season haven’t been that great. His pens are now, most likely, being taken over by Mac Allister.

A much better value route into the Liverpool attack is Coady Gakpo. I’m guessing that he’ll lead the line in the majority of big games with Nunez playing against lesser opponents / cup / europa league until his confidence is fully there. Gakpo is ready to go and composed in front of goal when it matters.

Ok, I can’t personally see it, I know Salah has missed a few but he is their talisman and wants them.
I know it’s up to Klopp but can’t see it personally.

Talisman? yes, optimal penalty taker when there’s a better one on the pitch? No.

Why would you risk missing a penalty by keeping Salah on them?

Well for one it might unsettle their best player, and yes he’s missed some but his record prior to that was impressive

If it’ll unsettle him then that’s Salah’s issue. As i said before the team is more important and Liverpool are now stacked in attack. Szoboslai can easily fill the Salah role if he gets unsettled but i doubt it will, he’s mature enough to realise that the collective performance of the team is paramount.

Klopp stated it and a combination of the fact that i’ve received some information and the fact that Mac Allister has had an impeccable penalty record at Brighton. Salah blazed one over last season and missed another. Why should he remain on pens when there’s a better taker in the team?

They need him to be motivated and he is going to want to put up a fight for the golden boot. There’s no way Klopp takes him off them for a player that’s just joined.

It was, but with Diaz and Jota fit and Nunez looking like he’s improving and the addition of Szoboslai, we aren’t as heavily reliant on Salah.

                      Look forwards not back.

Thing is next week Wilson could start so back to square one with trying to figure out who's playing. Maybe there'll be a PL-CL rotation between him and Isak but I doubt it. Honestly I think the only case in which I'll go for one of them is if the other is injured

Top for transfers in with City up next and his place not nailed. Okayyyy

      2. Sir Michael Taker
        • 12 Years
        3 years, 21 days ago

I think with Wilson's injury history and him being 31 the way they went about yesterday might be the majority way of doing it and managing Wilson's time to try and get a full season out of him maybe. But that's just my opinion. Interesting to know who is on penalties if Wilson's not on the pitch is that Isak?

        1. Hairy Potter
          • 11 Years

Isak has taken a penalty when Wilson was on the bench. Against Forest IIRC.

I agree that this seems like the best setup, Wilson is generally clinical so coming on late works well. But there will be plenty of games where Howe will think Wilson fits the bill better than Isak I'm sure

Will see what Liverpool's defence looks like today. I might be tempted to bring him in for GW3. Too early to tell, but I have JPedro and 2.0ITB that is tentatively earmarked for Gakpo/Darwin for GW2.

Done now (not sure what the urgency was as Akanji .5 less than Stones) but I don’t think it was right move. Too much competition for places in back line and Stones could well be fine for next game.

Here's what changing the deadline will accomplish:

    1. We move the deadline to X hours before kickoff.
    2. 5 min before deadline news/leaks/rumours about a player being injured/benched appears.
    3. We need to move the deadline.
    4. Back to 1 and repeat.

I don't fancy us to score away at Man City. We also struggled against teams who parked the bus at SJP and didn't try to play out from the back last season. With a full squad Howe will have more options and fresh legs. I think, like last season, there will be high scores, but also some teams we might struggle to break down.

I'd replace now. Villa don't have the easiest start to the season and he could drop in price. There are some good 4.5s out there.

For the Newcastle players, what matters most... minutes or points?

Minutes. Sure players can come on and do well but over the course of a season the minutes will make a difference.

Hard to tell. I think yesterday and for a period last season, Wilson greatly benefited coming off the bench against tired, trailing teams with counter attack goals. He probably took late goals away from Isak who had done the hard work for 60+ mins

They look really good and sharp but that front 3 is going to be Howe roulette for sure; Isak, Wilson, Barnes, Almiron, Gordon, Murphy, Willock... and Howe´s words about "added time" and how important it is to have "a good bench".... great from a footballing perspective but horrible for ppl

How about no deadline? Can instead make transfers/change players/captain at anytime? My squad would currently look like this and I’d be sitting pretty:

    Leno
    Andersen - Mitchell - Diop
    Rodrigo - Barnes - Saka - March - Bowen
    Haaland - Isak

    Bench fodder

Also a good way on busting the template…Dier hauls today, get him in yah team..

One rule change that I've thought of before is that subs could reflect more like a real-life scenario. In other words, we have up until a certain deadline to selectively sub in players from our bench each week.

A similar set up to the Euro and world cup fantasy games might work, transfers can be made between players who haven't started yet, can sub off a player who has played for a player who hasn't played yet etc. Admittedly the fifa set up is clunky and some real loopholes in the world cup game that would need to be ironed out but would level the playing field a bit more than random leaks.

      1. Jafooli
        • 14 Years
        3 years, 21 days ago

Agreed, although that only seems to work well for tournament comps, would require much more investment from players. FPL want it to be as easy as possible…

In all seriousness the deadline should be about 24hrs prior to KO, in my opinion…

        1. Swahealy
          • 5 Years

Well the champions league fantasy football is much more enjoyable, and that deadline runs right up to the time of the first kick off so I'd prefer that instead of making it harder

            • Fantasy Football Scout Member

That's not an every week thing though so I take Jafooli's point.

It would completely change how some people play the game, there's always the risk that someone is benched or injured late in the day and while some people are more unlucky than others it probably averages out over the course of the season. But with the deadline being right up to first kick off there would probably be more changes in response to that first match so less benefit to long term planning maybe?

Obviously not a workable solution, but I think if all teams played at the same time a deadline of kick off time or when the teams are announced would work really well.

Yeah that's a very good point, I guess it would level the playing field for the people who are more invested, but disadvantage the average player by upping the level of commitment needed.

Think it can also bad for football more generally with these leaks, I remember a few seasons ago when Grealish injury was leaked through a villa player transferring him out of their team and the opponent changed their set up in response. Though I know that teams often try to get the upper hand with these things anyway, like Bielsa's spying!

I agree Spurs became too Kanecentric, it is never good when a team is so dependant on one player. Spurs will have a much better balance overall once Ange finds a few bargain signings with that Kane money.

I assume Ange will be after the Asian/Scottish versions of Eddie Howes first signings for Newcastle. Commitment/energy work rate etc.
