I honestly can’t get my head around why that was allowed to stand. Dreadful decision. If Akanji did not affect the outcome there then I need to go to Specsavers.

Decision making methodology is off in the Premier League too.

They will have the main ref waiting in the middle of the pitch listening to what VAR thinks happened instead of sending him to the screen. VAR then interprets the call as either wrong or correct, and will only send the main referee to the screen when he has already made a concluding decision.

    1. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 7 months ago

Said this since day dot. Sending to the screen was romanticised as the solution to VAR problems since it apparently worked wonders on the continent. Why waste our time if the qualified refs with the video calls can already make a call without the added pressure and noise of trying to figure things out on your lonesome staring at a screen you can't cnotrol yourself?

For the main referee, how can you stand behind your decision if everybody else in the world has more information about a particular situation than you? The main ref should help himself with video more often.

So what do we think it is? Corruption or pure stupidity? How smart do we really think referees are? We all know footballers aren't the brightest bunch, what is there to suggest that referees are any better? It could be corruption coming from the top but they could also genuinely just be really thick

    1. JBG
      • 7 Years

I think it's pure stupidity... this is not the first time, City match or no. They've(PL refs) been awful for at least 3 years now.

      1. bombonera
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Like, there comes a point that they've repeatedly not been able to apply rules that they've studied to real situations, which is the whole basis of their job. In other jobs they'd get sacked due to incompetence. Only reason they don't here is because of the general lack of referees

Has to be some form or corruption or bias.

There’s no way they’re this stupid or incompetent.

either way time to ditch VAR. You could excuse on field officials for missing things, but its too insulting when somebody sat with multiple TV angles can't interpret the rules PL officials are paid to enforce

I think it's revealing just how inconsistent football decision-making already was, through corruption, biases and stupidity altogether. It was just easier to hide before. VAR promises more consistency than it can deliver, though it could certainly be better. The question is whether having more good calls on average is worth having more bad calls that are definitely bad, as mistakes will happen, and there is always some subjectivity in football decisions.

Not really, the big club bias will just redirect to the pitch officials. Unwritten rule, any 50/50 decisions goes in favour of the big team.

The beauty about the 'content creators' they make it obvious which way the majority of them are going. Like a telegraphed pass.

Then you can decide which move you can make which they are not mentioning to get that edge well in advance, while simultaneously covering their more obvious picks.
