Pedro dropping tonight, so need to make a decision. Best move?

    A) Foden --> Son
    B) Pedro --> Morris

He's been on the cusp a few days now. Not sure he will drop. Unless Evan Ferguson is fit anyway.

Son is OOP and 9m. I'm surprised he's not more popular.

If I still had Pedro, I'd be swapping him for Morris 100%

Even if that meant missing out on Son v SHU?

I think I would do the Son move this GW and the Morris move next...

Still don't see much love for Brennan Johnson @5.9m and 0.5% ownership. I am very keen to take a punt on him.

After how Solomon played last game, can only see a bench role this week. After that who knows.

Johnson played RW for Forest as well as no 10 and no 9.

I am leaning towards bringing in Son as if he goes wild again then you going to cry if you do not own him. Then I was thinking of bringing in Mbeumo too but I would rather go Johnson this week instead of Mbeumo.

2 days ago you were convinced that SHU is 'not a defence to target' this week.

No, I did not say they were not a defence to target. I said even though they have utterly sh*te defensivr stats, they have not conceded the most.

I triple capped Haaland vs SHU because they concded 40 shots the previous GW's.

            So, stfu

Took me a bit of time to find this, seeing as you've posted about 400 more messages since then.

Essentially, by not including SHU in your list of defences to target, and saying you'd pick Foderingham as your keeper...

Yes, we know you TC'd Haaland and got burned - the mental gymnastics you've been doing since then is hilarious.

By default, leaving them out of the list implies that they weren't.

Besides, I didn't write "you said that they weren't", I wrote that "you were convinced...", which was my interpretation of whatever brain fart you were having at that particular moment.

Finding it hard to pick only 5 mids on a WC. I do a set and forget league so fixtures and captain are irrelevant. Maddison and Saka are locked in so that leaves 3 spaces for:
    A) Mbuemo
    B) Diaby
    C) Foden
    D) Salah
    E) Son
    F) Rashford
    G) Bowen

Which 3 would you pick if money is no object? TIA

I would go Bowen, Son for now (shift if he does not continue at no 9) Mbeumo and Mo for the up coming fixtures.

I am still in two minds about Mo as mids cheaper are outscoring him at this point but you would want him vs Wolves defence. He does rotate with Saka quite nicely which I am considering too, jumping on and off between fixtures.

Set and forget until a late DGW-focused second wildcard, right?

Then it's DEF for me too. Foden will rotate, Toney will be back, West Ham and/or Villa might be inconsistent. This is with the triple hope/expectation that Son stays up top, Rashford stays at LW and Salah stays in the league, of course

On WC but concerned I've gone too template, which was my issue with my start of season draft. Tempted to go Morris (Luton 5.5) over Archer, or do we think even though Luton have decent fixtures and a double GW it's unlikely they're going to return big, so might as well save myself the 1M and stick with Archer?

    Turner (Areola)
    Udogie / Chilwell / Cash (Saliba / 4M)
    Diaby / Salah / Saka / Mads / Mbeumo
    Haaland / Awoniyi (Archer)

    Thoughts appreciated

I think with all the mids at our disposal, 3 up top is hardly going to be a thing going forward. Archer is the best 1st bench asset to own.

Just for consideration: Chilwell could be your route to Alex Moreno (GW9, not fit yet) or Estupinan (GW10, fixtures)

His next 4 are good enough for me to hold on the WC with this clear exit strategy that has two options. Just be sure to save a transfer or two...

Sure it's an option to consider. It could become an issue booking in transfers when injuries start to happen and have a weak bench. The OP team also has Saka which would be a sell in GW8 to Son and another transfer booked in.

I thought it was only 0.2m between them now but just realised Porro went back up to 5m - he is shooting a lot more than Udogie though, with similar assist potential. Digne is admittedly a bit of a short-term pick with Moreno close to returning but tbh I think Cash is a trap with his attacking stats massively inflated by the game he played RW (covering for Bailey injury); RB in Emery's system has much less attacking threat than LB

I think Porro and Udogie may have different weeks where they return, but feel like they're going to be similar with overall points this season if both stay fit.
Feel like Cash is a safe pick mainly due to fixtures, and I still think he will be quite attacking
thanks for your advice as always! got some time to tinker this week

Hmm I suppose there is still a chance Emerson plays a couple of the tougher fixtures but Porro is so much better on the ball that he just seems a more natural fit for this role under Ange. I'll be rotating him for fixtures like Arsenal (A) anyway

Does the form of Awoniyi merit a change in formation to 3-4-3? His form is incredible, better than any midfielder. I’m seriously considering it as I could always WC in GW8/9 if it goes wrong.

A front 3 of Haaland - Alvarez - Awoniyi looks pretty good to me.

No, low ceiling and less points for attacking returns compared to midfielders.

He's been doing very well but honestly I'm not sure how sustainable it is. His conversion rate has been ridiculous and when you look at some of his returns (like his goal at ManUtd, or even his assist against Chelsea) you have to question how often chances like that will come about and how much you can rely on turnovers from errors

Moving Saliba out next week to a 4.5/4.6 def, anyone better than Rico Henry? Nice fixtures and from what I've seen of him he's been bombing forward so much this season, shocking he hasn't been in the discussion for the England LB spot with Shaw's injury and Chilwell's history. Other than that I'd consider Digne but aware it's possibly very short term with Moreno possibly fit around the time the next IB is done

I think Henry is now the best pick, after Cash and Udogie's rises.

I'm sure you're also aware that there's a picture of Digne's face when you look up 'FPL troll' in the Oxford dictionary. I've never, ever captured one of his hauls.

I think all of Henry, Cash, Udogie and Gusto are great value options depending on budget and various fixture sequences.

With Gusto you can just park him on your bench for a couple of weeks and he'll likely still turn over appearance points to match the template fodder on sub benches.

He's also v good at crossing the ball, his career stats show this so he will assist when he features. James will be in and out.

      but Henry is nailed on.

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 2 months ago

No that's pretty much who I'd consider too. Henry's crossing seems a lot sharper this season so far so I'd expect an uptick in assists. I actually just had a quick stats comparison of Henry 23 vs Henry 22 and a lot of the key metrics are way up so far - xA & pen area touches (per 90) currently doubled

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

Wow didn't know it was that big an improvement, although it does make sense given what I've seen.

By the way, unrelated but I'm now heavily considering Son thanks to you. I said I'd wait but I may just do Bruno to him after doing Onana to Leno. I can wait on Alvarez another week and if I get Son before a rise I could afford Wissa to Alvarez next week without any hassle even if he rises again (although doing that before Everton is questionable in itself)

Cool, GL! I would have no issue ditching Bruno for him. I also think its fine to stick with Wissa for a bit - still looked like he was taking up threatening positions v Bournemouth & wasn't far off a return

Nobody's keeping clean sheets this season, so might as well play the fixtures. Could do worse than Schar for 5.0 especially if he's on some direct free kicks.

Don't think Schar will be on many free kicks. Trippier will still be the most likely candidate. Schar occasionally steps up if the position is more for someone to simply blast the ball as hard as possible at goal

I don't mind Newcastle's fixtures but given their issues (and what I've read from Newcastle fans here) as well as their CL fixtures beginning I don't think I'm keen, especially as even Trippier doesn't seem to have the attacking threat he did last year so I think you're pretty much only relying on clean sheets from them

Trippier has continued to create chances, and considering the opposition, the number of chances he creates is likely to increase (as is the chance they'll be converted). Conceded the least big chances in the league so far this year which is encouraging when looking at upcoming fixtures. Wouldn't rule out Trippier as a very good option now

Think it's the balance positioning of Tonali and Bruno that most Newcastle fans are questioning. Longstaff plays in a specific RCM channel and links up well with Trippier and Miggy. Tonali roams a bit more and that is taking the team some getting used to.

      Henry or Hickey is good.
Botman is safe if fit, with okay fixtures. Could Lewis Hall start playing?
Ryan Giles of Luton gets you Home Wolves then the nice looking double.

Can I ask why you want to get rid of Saliba? We are still the second best team in the league and by GW9, you’ll just want him or an Arsenal defender back in your team.

      1. Tonyawesome69
        • 6 Years

Why GW9? Play Chelsea away, SHU (H) then NEW (A). Arsenal defender can wait until GW12 unless you have a good bench rotation in GW9 & 11

Trash is not fair, we had a few injuries defensively last season. In the games against Chelsea and Newcastle, I reckon Arteta will play Rice and Partey and then a normal back 4. That’s about as pragmatic as it gets and there will be some unexpected clean sheets

      2. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

Not keeping clean sheets and only maybe two games in the next 6 that I expect clean sheets in (probably two of Bournemouth, Chelsea and Sheffield Utd). Burnley and Brentford after that too

I just think that before the season, we were all shocked that they were priced at 5.0 and now people are getting rid. I kept Saliba on my WC last week, don’t want to get rid any time soon personally

With Partey out injured and the failed experiment having him as inverted fullback over, and Zinnchenko back to do the job properly, I foresee an upturn in Arsenal's defensive capacity.

West Ham have a couple of recent score draws against Man City in the league, but it's back to 2015 when they last won.

So City could easily win by a couple of goals or more with a back to back Haaland hattrick to boot!

      I'm guessing 1-3 to City.

Picking a Haaland blank is a straight up roulette play and you can easily get burnt.

Looking at a Shaw replacement, and I'm considering a Newcastle defender. Is Schar worth the extra 0.5 over Burn or Botman?

If you start him regularly, he is. If you intend to have him hop on and off your bench, playing the fixtures, I'd save the cash and pick Botman.

Would wait one more week to make sure Botman is fit & get him instead.

        Probably not.

"Botman was the eighth top-scoring defender in Fantasy last term, combining two assists with 13 clean sheets.

Despite his minimal attacking returns, the Dutchman was among the standout players for goal threat at the back.

Botman’s 22 shots in the box were bettered by only six other defenders in 2022/23."

        i would say yes.

Don't quote me on this but I think last season he was ranked 2nd to Gabriel on xG for defenders...

Of course every season is different and who knows how the UCL will affect them...

I wouldnt go near Newcastle Def until i see some stability and Batman back
Tonali is injured too i think.

Go for Cash, amazing fixtures and the dude is Chillwell on steroids at the moment. 1-2 big chances EVERY game.

Don't think stability is the cause of defensive issues, rather the fixture difficulty - Their defensive numbers have been decent regardless of goals conceded.

This is wrong. Cash at RW v BUR - 2 big chances, 6 shots, 6 penalty area touches, 1.29 xG. Cash at RB v EVE, 0 big chances, 0 shots, 0 penalty area touches, 0 xG

that would be ideal had the money been there.
Dont even have enuff to do Bruno to son.

Foden can only go to Mitoma/Sterling/Mbuemo etc...

              • 4 Years

This isn't the case at all and I'm a little offended by that remark.

I was intrigued to see who people were targeting (and thus what the template team is looking like) having not engaged with FPL for a good week.

If I was scared of thinking for myself I certainly wouldn't have ended last season in the top 470k, in only my second season of FPL.

I'm targeting top 250k this season and have changed my gameplan to be less kneejerk and not waste as many transfers as last season. I'm also sticking fairly template to begin with (hence my intrigue in what the current template appears to be) and I aim to gradually implement more and more differentials as the season develops.

Unlike the masses I'm not using my WC this week as I would only make 4/5 changes to my team of which only 2 at most are needed.

@andy social as a key content creator you foster the whole idea of 'too scared to think for yourself', and although I appreciate your content and that of your fellow YouTubers I do think that you are ruining the beauty of FPL.

Er, I'm not who you think I am. I find it odd that a person has no problem accepting Arsenal has 3 Gabriels, but assumes all Andy's are one person.

      Hello all,

Had planned to do Eze to Son, but due to price rises can't afford it - what would you do here? 1ft, and 2.5m itb

      Pickford (turner)

      chillwell, estu, saliba (henry, kabore)

      eze, saka, rashford, maddison, foden

      haaland, jackson (mubama)

      a- Foden to son

      b- rashford to son

c - eze to son, and jackson to alavarez (-4)

d - just roll the transfer.

      Thanks very much!
