Either A, or the idea Invincibles suggested. I'd love to have Maddison, but he's not as essential as Son. I have Schar from several weeks ago, but with so many Newcastle attacking options and all of the impending price changes, Burn and Schar are probably relatively equal. Which player do you want most? If it's Son, as it probably should be, and you're not destroying your team to get him, do that.

With Richy on the left and Son through the middle i prefer Son to Maddison.

The Son v high line, Maddison v low block theory does make sense & seems to have panned out over the last few games. But I feel like I tried to take the same approach to Son/Kane captaincy the season before last & it didn't necessarily work; I think most of Son's biggest hauls actually came at home to weaker sides like Norwich. So I'm not sure if maybe this approach is boxing Son in unnecessarily.

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years

I do think it's worth considering. I need to see more of Everton v Luton first in deciding it. I read that they were very good against Wolves even when 11v11 and the goal they conceded had some luck about it in that game. I don't know if they'll sit in against Spurs but they seem better organised now, so Maddison's creativity may be key in this game

He could be but it seems like overthinking to me. Son is a much bigger goal threat and probably has penalties. The factor I would be more concerned about is minutes. If Son gets 70 again vs 90 for Maddison that could be a difference maker.

My WC looks like this atm.

    Areola Turner
    Gabriel Burn Cash Guehi Porro
    Salah Son Maddison Saka Gordon
    Haaland Alvarez Mubama

It feels like Saka vs Watkins and I prefer Saka. The fixtures are not that bad for Arsenal and you'd be selling one of the highest value players because they play City this week. I think I'd rather keep.

Same for Alvarez. I think his value is too high at that price to be a sell on WC despite the fixtures.

Gordon + Gabriel vs Kabore + Diaby is the question I have atm. I'm leaning the Gordon route because I really like him as an option with Barnes out. Diaby is good but pricier and forces my defense to be weaker.

Anyone else I should look at?

I know they're good picks. But I don't feel they're better than what I have. Especially Watkins. Yeah he scored huge this week but he had 1 goal in 6 games before this and Europe is also back to muddy the waters.

He's also a forward so naturally his ceiling is just not as high as Saka's. Saka is just not as 'hot' atm but he's still the highest scoring midfielder in the game playing for a better team and on pens.

I respect your opinion but I still prefer Watkins who is currently the top scorer of FPL. He usually goes through these patterns for 6-7 weeks with consistent scoring points/goals.

Fair enough. These differences in opinions are what makes us have different teams and priorities. I don't think he's a bad pick. Because of course not, he has form and fixtures on his side, but I don't think I'm gonna go for him.

If he didn't score 23 points this week and got 2 instead, he'd have the same amount of points as Solanke. We've seen how well chasing past point hauls has been.

I suppose i'd go the Kabore and Diaby route, the bench would be weaker but you'd still have one decent sub. But if you prefer Gordon go for that.

I would go Kabore & Diaby. I assume you've worked out your defensive rotation & I doubt you'd play Guehi much...? Better to have that 0.5m available for midfield, even if you prefer Gordon (I prefer Diaby though).

Great that you can afford Saka alongside Son/Maddi/Salah

It feels like you've got 1 more "playable" sub that you absolutely need, so I think Kabore + Diaby makes more sense. I really like this though. I'm on WC this week too and I came to the same conclusion; it's a choice between Saka and Watkins. I've also found myself trying to fit Trippier in, but it really messes with other options. The problem is that all of
      Haaland
      Alvarez
      Watkins
      Saka
      Son
      Bowen
      Trippier

feel like "must haves", but they don't all fit in a team!

    Burn Estu Udogie (Botman Kabore)
    Salah Saka Maddison Son MBUEMO
    Haaland Alvarez (Archer)
    0.1 in the bank , 0 FT

    Worth swapping

    A) Mbuemo for Diaby for a hit this week? If he rises 0.1 I wont be able to afford him.

    B) Or stick to my no hit plan and swap Mbuemo for Gordon/Gibbs white/Eze next week which would give me cash to upgrade Turner who I'm sure will get dropped after his disastrous performance yesterday?

Tbh with cheaper mids it's about running with them with form and fixtures and then swapping them out since there's no way they'll match the premiums long term. Another option is keep him for 2 weeks ie mun and Burnley and then get Mitoma

Why would they spend that money on a feature that less than 10% of the reported player base would actually use - it's more likely to alienate casual players by making the game seem overly complicated, if anything.

All these tweets on twitter criticising Liverpool for their statement and intentions over what happened yesterday. Would these people prefer it if Liverpool took it lying down, it being brushed under the carpet again and forgotten about only for it to inevitably happen again?

Its about time a club escalated this nonsense and took it further. Its for the good of football surely.

Saturday but it's still hurting them.

I'm not sure it's corruption but incompetence.

There was the strong LiVARpool backlash and they have benefited in big games including against Spurs in the Champions League final with a dodgy penalty awarded.

Perhaps the Premier League should intervene.

Effectively talking about referring decisions is, like the weather, a national pastime and we can't get away from that.

Of course it's corruption. It's so obvious. These incidents have been far too frequent and absurd to be simply passed off as human error. There is something else at play. How many apologies have we had now? Come on wake up!

The statement being criticised is just a counter-reaction to Liverpool fans acting like there's a conspiracy against them, some calling the match vs Spurs "the worst officiated game ever" which is ludicrous.

Besides the offside call (which is a disagree, I don't think anybody disagrees) there's not really an argument for the other incidents. Jones going studs up into someone's ankle is the easiest red you'll see all season and Jota hacking a man down after being booked (first yellow was soft, but he should have been booked earlier anyway) is just pure stupidity.

Liverpool fans also like to pretend they're the saviours of football which rubs people up the wrong way too.

It was the worst officiated game I've ever seen by a mile in terms of the amount of decisions to go against a team. To summarise:

        1) Curtis Jones sent off for a harsh red card. Still image makes it look worse.

        2) Minutes later Liverpool take the lead but it’s wrongly disallowed for offside. VAR quickly rules it out, doesn’t use lines to check.

        3) Salah flagged for a foul on Bissouma for basically nothing. If the ref doesn’t blow Salah is in the box and could create a big goal scoring opportunity.

        4) Spurs get a corner when the ball clearly comes off Kulusevski.

        5) Jota booked because Udogie trips himself. He then (stupidly) makes a rash challenge which gets him a second yellow.

        6) Before Jota’s second yellow Udogie asks the ref to give Jota a second yellow for a minor foul. He doesn’t get booked even though asking for a yellow is now a bookable offence.

        7) Robertson and Peter Krawietz booked for complaining about a foul on Robertson.

        8) Bissouma gets a yellow for putting a hand in Wataru’s face. A hand in the face should be a red card.

        9) In general, Simon Hooper made a number of decisions which went against Liverpool’s flow in the game. Not being given advantage when we should have, pulling up players for fouls which were incredibly soft.

The issue with the Jones red is that many have different views on whether the action by Jones warranted a red. Some think it was and some including many ex pro's think it wasn't. So it certainly was not the easiest red you will see all season. This is actually a ludicrous thing to say.

The key point was that the onfield decision was a yellow card. Given the ambiguity and circumstances around Jones foot rolling over the ball and accidently into the players ankle, it's not a clear and obvious red card so why is the VAR even getting involved? For the onfield decision to be over turned it had to have been a clear and obvious error which it wasn't. VAR is supposed to be there to correct clear and obvious errors but they continue to meddle with and change far too many onfield decisions.

I'm sorry but going lunging at the ball and going studs up into another player's shin/ankle is a red card every single day of the week - the "circumstances" are irrelevant, otherwise we wouldn't have any players ever sent off because none of them "mean it." It's unfortunate and he's unlucky, but it's a red - same as the similar Casemiro incident last season.

Not going to bother going into the "they got a corner they shouldn't have" stuff because it happens a million times every single weekend and has very little impact on the result. Salah dragging Bissouma down then mouthing off at the referee is clearly a booking and you're showing your bias there though.

Like I said originally - the offside is a disgrace and should see punishment, but the red cards are as clear as day.

He didn't lunge at the players ankle though did he? It was not a reckless action. It was only made to look so because his foot rolled on top of the ball and into his ankle. Football is a fast moving and physical game and players can get hurt. Should they now then have a new ruling that players aren't allowed to put their foot on top of the ball like that or how about no contact allowed whatsoever in case something unlucky happens? Madness. Players have suffered broken legs before where no action was taken with the other player involved in the challenge as they didn't do anything particularly reckless and it was just unfortunate. Loads of ex pro's don't think it was worthy of a red. So that fact alone shows that the awarding of a yellow card was not a clear and obvious error so it should not have been over turned.

            1. x.jim.x
              • 11 Years

He lunged at the ball and was unfortunate to go over the top of it - however, studs up into another player has always been deemed as reckless and has always been a red card. Whether it was an accident or whether players have broken legs before has literally nothing to do with it.

Lots of ex-pro's think lots of stupid things - it's not really a great argument when you've got the likes of Redknapp and Jenas chatting absolute garbage on Sky every week, never mind the loons like Le Tissier and Lambert.

Was all set on Ode > Salah this coming gw, but pondering now if it's in fact Saka I should shift for the time being. My thinking is that Ode is a differential against the masses. I see the other side of the coin with Saka using that same argument, but very hard to make up ground with a team of template picks. I was set on Ode due to his deeper role and acknowledge that 2 of his goals are from penos, but still, he is quality all round and ticking over nicely. Thoughts?

Pretty satsified with this wildcard plan going forward:

    Areola - Turner
    Trippier - Cash - Porro - Andersen - Lascelles
    Salah - Son - Maddison - Diaby - JWP
    Alvarez - Watkins - Darwin

I'm leaving out Haaland and Saka for 4-5 gameweeks because of bad fixture run/injury.
Maddison and Diaby could then become Bowen and Saka when ARS/WHU fixtures swings.
Watkins/Darwin can become Haaland and Salah could be downgraded to Neto/Gordon/fodder in a couple of weeks.

Trying to maximize the combination of a wildcard and citys bad fixtures. I actually think this could work!

It's a good plan if you believe Darwin Trippier and Watkins can compete with Haaland and fodder defenders.

I don't mind it. I'm not gonna do it personally because I'm not as convinced yet on Darwin and Watkins' consistency but I don't fault someone for trying it.

Thoughts on this Son/Salah/Haaland/Trippier WC? Money a bit tight but looks decent?

Would play Lascelles for the Suspended Gordon this week.

    Areola Turner

Trippier Gabriel Cash Lascelles Taylor

    Salah Son Maddison Diaby Gordon
    Haaland Alvarez Mubama

What’s the question? Or just showing your nice team off? 🙂

Now I am priced out of cash+udogie by 0.1.
What are your thoughts on going with cash + anderson instead? Or maybe digne instead of cash and stick with udogie.
Udogie's xgi is not as good as I'd expected recently.
Is cash necessary? Digne getting more touches in the final 3rd...

I've been having a closer look at Andersen (CRY) and his stats are rather phenomenal.

He beats all "template" defenders on numbers.

I'm seriously considering him with Trippier and Cash - have Burn or another on my bench to cover Newcastle (A) in GW9.

I'm starting Andersen this week (wildcarded in GW6). Aside from the stats, he has Forest home this week, and other than Newcastle next week, his fixtures aren't bad through several matches.

Playing my wild card - any advice on the below?

    A Salah - Douglas Luiz - Tarkowski
    B Son - Odegaard - Mitchel

Now it’s written down it seems pretty obvious to me actually…
