Still in a state of shock over Sterling's haul yesterday. Totally unexpected and led to almost a 1m rank rise. After a run of horrible red arrows its very welcome. Hopefully big Erling can bring the captains armband home tonight 🙂

Some nostalgia for you, if you're into that. I found this on wayback machine and apparently I placed 38th in that GW back in 2002 (out of around 50k players):

This is what every FPL content creator/millionaire YouTuber says when the FPL advice that they charge for turns out to be rubbish. They never accept responsibility for recommending a crap player; they always say "make your own decisions" as their classic get out line. They continue to rake it in while your rank and mental health suffers.

There was plenty of different views on who to captain this week. They know no more than you really, I think their decision making process is the most critical thing to understand before believing their answer.

These posts where thick people don't take responsibility for their own decisions are funny though 🙂 They are leaving every decision to other players and then complain when the inevitable sometimes happens. Never ever do they give credit for their monkey style copied successes.

Draw your cap from a hat.

There are enough options each week between Salah, Saka, Son and Haaland.

Out of three or five rounds of drawing, go with that player you drew twice. That is how I have been picking captains and my starting elevens.

      1. FOO FIGHTER
        3 years, 24 days ago

But my cap will be Son GW9.

        3 years, 24 days ago

That means it's purely down to luck and choosing a captain is not just luck there's eye test and data to consider. In most cases data+eye test will outscore luck

By the way, forgot to post my "No Haaland team" in the previous thread.

    Leno (Areola)
    TAA, Tripps, Cash, Udogie, (Lamptey)
Salah (c), Son, Madders, (Diaby), (JWP)
    Hojlund, Watkins, Darwin

So, it is not just Haaland -> TAA

It is also the better bench without a low budget midfielder/striker, therefore more choice and four proper options in defence.

We shall see how it goes later today and then especially the next couple of weeks in October/November.

    1. Tcheco
      3 years, 24 days ago

What's the point of going without Haaland if you can't get Bowen over JWP & Porro over Udogie?

      1. FOO FIGHTER
        3 years, 24 days ago

He went with Trent, probably why he had to go with JWP.

        1. Three Pints of Schlager
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          3 years, 24 days ago

I went for JWP in GW4 already before my GW5 WC.

I can still bring in Bowen for Son/Madders, but I'm not sure if I really need to. Same with Alvarez for Hojlund.

By the way. Udogie to Porro is still feasible (budget-wise) and highly likely but not for a hit.

      2. Sure You Did
        3 years, 24 days ago

JWP v Bowen is debatable. Porro over Udogie is correct, I don't have a luxury transfer yet to upgrade.

        1. Touré De Force

I said it was " Haaland > TAA effectively" not "just Haaland > TAA" when trying to distill your overly long OP that failed to even list your team. Subtle difference..

      1. Sheffield Wednesday
        3 years, 24 days ago

About the only gain you make is having a better 8th attacker - mine is Archer for reference and will be benched.

        1. Three Pints of Schlager
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          3 years, 24 days ago

See and I didn't want Archer as an option on the bench.

There will be weeks when Hojlund/Alvarez will be on the bench or maybe Darwin depending on rotation risk.

Also, I can decide to go straight to Isak/Jesus. There are so many good strikers around 7-8mio. and with Haaland/Archer you are limited to one of them.

          1. Sheffield Wednesday
            3 years, 24 days ago

Yes all good points. When I tried that strategy without Salah I managed some wonderful returns - on my bench.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating - good luck

I will keep Udogie, cheap enough to be benched. With Son everything ( especially to Saka) is possible and also Maddison needs to be monitored. Should I need the money for Darwin and if a cheaper mid emerges and Maddison is dropping in price after blanking, it's quite easy.

Ward-Prowse smashing in a free-kick at the wrong end. It could happen.

Having recklessly swapped him from the bench for Cash last minute this would really dampen my otherwise happy weekend

I think if I target a top 1 million finish this season the chance for disappointment is decreased

    1. FOO FIGHTER
      3 years, 24 days ago

Ranks are extremely tight. If you have a good GW8, you are still well in with a good finish.

From GW10/11 ranks will likely start settling when most WC's likely to have been played.

The impression I get is no one in FPL is interested in their injured players actual play - they just want them to not appear so that FPL bench points are subbed on. Shame!

Bench subs should only get half their actual points. It would encourage people to think about their team more.

      1. Jafooli
        3 years, 24 days ago

Fair, but we should also be permitted to put our bench players into our teams, just like real subs…

Thought I was being clever and one step ahead by saving the WC for the fixture swing of the better teams . Just tried to put a team together and realised I'm f***ed . I must have lost about 1.4 mil value swing in a week. Pumpy in the mud

In all my years playing I've never known a week like that with price rises. Hope FPL take a look at it, purely because it's worked against me. Season ruined

What sort of tv would you have needed to get what you wanted? Just interested to see what "good" is really as mine's not that great!

      1. Pumpkinhead - I'm ITK …
        3 years, 24 days ago

Mine is 102.2 but it's sell value that matters. It means dropping a Bowen for JWP or something . Or avoiding Salah which I'm not opposed to. For now anyway

          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          3 years, 24 days ago

Yeah fair point. I'm a bit higher than that but tbh that's only because I've been a bit hit crazy this season to deal with injuries and sometimes price rises so i doubt it's worked overall given my rank :P. Missed some this week for sure though, and still can't decide what to do about Mbeumo. He pretty much just sits on the bench droppng in value!

Lamptey not in squad. This is why he’s not an option unfortunately, he physically (and I mean physically) cannot play every couple of days due to the number of hamstring issues and surgeries he’s had.

It’s going to be a really tough task for our LB today (probably Igor? Maybe March?). Nervous...
