How many clean sheets do you really see in the next 5 or 6 games? Burnley and Luton should be safe enough but not too sure otherwise. Newcastle away this weekend, away to Brentford who tend to do OK against the "top" teams (2-2 v Spurs, should have scored at least one v Newcastle, somehow lost 2-1 to ManUtd, won 2-0 v Chelsea), Wolves haven't lost in 5 and have scored in every game except GW1 where they outplayed ManUtd and should have had a late penalty, and after that it's Villa.

Archer vs. Semenyo as 4.5 fodder. Not much at stake here I realize, but happy to hear any insight, thanks!

    1. DonaldDrapier
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

I have Semenyo. I prefer him because of lower ownership which means he is less likely to drop in price. Also I think he has better potential for playing in a better team should he secure a starting spot. And he just scored one, as you know.

Secure start is what Archer has going for him, that means you might actually start him in some selected games where another of your attackers has a horrible fixture or is unavailable.

      1. sozopol
        • 14 Years

Thanks! Semenyo has the higher ceiling, whereas Archer can be relied on for 2 points. Think I'll have some fun and go with Semenyo. Hopefully I'll never need either of them, haha

Anyone else get the feeling Watkins and Bowen good runs are about to end?

I don't get that feeling about Watkins at all - Bowen on the other hand...

He's blanked twice in 3 weeks and got extremely lucky not to blank vs Newcastle. A couple of tough fixtures in there granted, but the way West Ham looked against Everton gives me little faith going forward.

Almost certainly going to hold for another ~3 weeks, but the confidence in waning.

      1. Shauno_444
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Yeah my thoughts exactly. If Neto wasn't injured I would be leaning towards him out for Darwin, but gets tricky and starts needing hits or keeping an injured Neto.

      • 4 Years

Watkins is a nailed talisman playing for a manager that gets the goods from his 9. Take a look at his returns over nearly a whole season under Emery. He also performs well against bigger sides that give him space. Fixtures need context from defensive vs offensive perspective and from player to player. Watkins’ “good fixtures” are not about to end. He misses chances but you can’t be antsy with this kind of player.

      1. Shauno_444
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I think I'm scarred from him last year, bringing him in then him blanking. Not great away from home and I have Cash and Diaby. No one great reason to sell, but it adds up a little.

    4. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

I'm sure Watkins will be fine (speaking as a non-owner), but you do need to keep an eye out for him dropping off at some point as he's traditionally patchy. Bowen I'm a bit less sure on but I'd hold for the next few. Suspensions could be good or bad for his prospects in the next game, my worry is that Everton have laid bare the benchmark for how to play against them though. I thought the game might not suit them as WHU like to play teams that want the ball and press players forward so they can counter, when they have to do the pressing forward themselves they're not great at creating very much

      1. Shauno_444
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

Yeah agree they're better on the counter. Seems a waste to take a hit on him, and on Watkins for that matter. I brought them in with 5 or 6 fixtures in mind, so should probabpy be boring and stick to my guns lol.

There is subjectivity but he’s been the best player in the world for a long time and his national team just won the World Cup. Probably only Harland’s remarkable season give some a chance to consider anyone else.

You have something to say about 2020 & 2010? When Lewandowski & Sneijder should have won respectively also 2013, Ribery was better imo

        1. FPLEL
          • 11 Years
          2 years, 5 months ago

Why would OP have to say anything about a cancelled ballon d'or?

I don't understand the 'Messi favouritism' conspiracy around that year... Are people claiming "they'd rather give it to no one if they couldn't give it to Messi?" That's weird because Modric had won it just two years prior, and Ronaldo the year before that...

2010 is also an odd one. Sneijder was great, but he didn't win the world cup, and wasn't even the clear best player for Inter that year - Diego Milito probably was.

So implying that there's some hypocrisy when neither situation is analogous to this year is just a bit weird...?

          1. PartyTime
            • 4 Years

Sneijder was Inter’s best player in 2010. He reached the world cup final & champions league, won the CL & domestic trophies if I’m not mistaken.

I am not biased. Messi is probably the best player on earth, no doubt but in certain years, there have been other players who outperformed him in those years.

But in all seriousness, he almost single handedly won a World Cup, with 10 other hardworking players filling gaps and defending. He was always going to win this one no matter what anyone else did last season.

    Thoughts on Martinelli(7.7) instead of Saka(8.6) ?

Last season, Saka (pens + more minutes ) played = 202 points

Martinelli ( no pens, reduced minutes compared to saka) = 198 points

This season has started differently but with Saka acting like Santa & December around the corner, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gives Martinelli a pen to take.

I can get either of the two. Don’t fancy a double up. Plan is to of course get either from gw 12, only issue I have is with fpl tower giving fake assist points to Saka, in case that continues.

I have Martinelli and toying with getting off and trying again later - historically he suffers without Jebus in the team and did do bugger all in a 5 nil win last week.

He played better than Saka tho but was subbed off early. Well I will just pick Saka only because I love fake assist points too 🙂

Really. Maybe I will keep then. Diaz kidnapping situation also limits other options.

I'd be happy to take the fake points - they still owe me for Harry Kane's goal about 5 years ago where he swore he touched it and was later awarded amongst other things.

They still haven’t given me my Choupo Moting back heel assist for Shaqiri & Vardy’s assist in 2018/2019 so good luck as we both wait patiently for our points from the past!

    Mitoma or Mbeumo?

Mbeumo has pens, high xGI and West Ham are probably worse defensively than Everton right now.

Mitoma is great but he's playing more fixtures this year in a team with injuries up front.

Not much in it. Maybe worth factoring in Mbeumo’s blank if you’ve already wildcarded

Despite the fixtures, I always feel like Mbuemo's ceiling is higher.

I'll be honest I'm not keen on either. I'm wary of Brighton, not in great form, lots of injuries, dealing with European fixtures, etc. Thought I read Mitoma was effectively at LWB at the weekend too?

Still not convinced on Brentford or Mbeumo either. I watched the game on Saturday and didn't see too much of him. Yes he has 2 returns, but one was a breakaway at the end of the game with no keeper in goal (which will hardly ever happen), the other was just a dreadful goal to concede (from a throw in, Sterling putting 0 pressure on the taker so Cucurella had to do that and try to cover Mbeumo so he lost him with no-one covering in behind, Sanchez getting caught out on the cross, Pinnock somehow getting on the end of it ahead of two CBs). Next 3 fixtures aren't really good either.
