Unfortunately for Newcastle its a dead rubber last game for Dortmund against PSG as things stand. They can't finish anywhere other than top of the group. Newcastle will probably have to beat AC Milan to wrap this up/

They do but its far from dead for Milan, they could actually finish 2nd themselves. Dortmund probably sticking the kids/reserves out against PSG

It's home and they want to win group. And draw will give Newcastle a chance as they beat PSG.
VAR isn't working in CL either it seems. Hits Livra in the chest before his hand.

Foden and Alvarez have done next to nothing for me in FPL in the 3-4 weeks ive had them in my team and not covering Haalands points at all who I dont have. But of course here the c##ts are filling their boots in a champions league game. Fuming

Does UCL have different pen rules? That is never a pen in PL since it deflected from the chest.

But this would have never been pen in PL. I have never seen deflected one given unless the player very clearly controls it. That rule has been working in PL VAR.

Poor Livramento and Newcastle. Absolute joke of a decision. Another VAR howler. Ref had no balls to deny the pen. Newcastle robbed. The game is truly gone.

I agree. Football has just become a lottery. Whoever has more luck with var wins.
      Absolutely shambolic penalty decision.
If it's not deliberate it shouldn't be a penalty..
All this unnatural position rule is nonsense

    2. Sir Michael Taker
      • 11 Years

harsh pen but you can't say they were robbed, they got battered in the last half hour or so and only some bad finishing, good defending/keeping and good luck stopped them losing the game before the penalty

Why wasn't that a pen? Looked pretty blatant to me. Refs are destroying football not VAR. Can't blame the technology it's the idiots that are paid over 100k a year to not do a job they are meant to be doing. Sack Howard Webb for a start. The worst thing to ever happen to football that scumbag

Dortmund do not get 1st place if they lose v PSG at home, so they'll field a strong XI.

I think with how stupid the handball rule is now, I don't know why teams just don't make it a tactic to just smash the ball towards defender's upper body'arm area when they're in the box. 40 Pens a season!

The ball hit his chest and was going in front of him until it hit his hand which altered the direction of the ball away from the attacker.. they get a lot wrong but this one was spot on

Kind of supports what I said then really. It was hit hard at him from point blank range. No way Livramento could have done anything about it.

    That's never a penalty.

If it is, the obvious tactic in football from now on is quite obviously to flick the ball up at speed, at the opposition, at point-blank distance. That way it'll hit their hand, or body-then-hand and it's a "penalty". The hit rate on that will be far more successful than crossing the ball to an attacker.

I'm embarrassed for the Ref, VAR and anyone attempting to justify that call.

  29. Lord of Ings

Never a penalty but Newcastle were pretty average throughout the game, offered next to nothing in attack and if Dembele and Barcola were clinical could’ve been 3-4 for sure.

      Can't argue with that.

Toon had 11 out injured and Tonali banned... Couldn't make a single substitution, and it's the same 11 that played on Saturday. They couldn't really do much else TBH.

      1. Lord of Ings

Yeah I feel for them in this aspect..
The fact they’re competing with that squad in UCL is commendable to say the least, even a fully fit Newcastle is just above average to me Howe has worked absolute wonders with the players at his disposal , and the fact that they’re still competing at a decent level with 10-12 injuries is quite impressive.
