    The Son decision for me:
    Keep Son/Archer/Alvarez

Or use 2 FTs to go:
    A) Elenga/Watkins/Alvarez
    B) Bowen/Archer/Watkins
    C) Gordon/Archer/Watkins

Just not sure it makes me better…

C looks good but I worry about Newcastle facing too much congestion with a depleted squad - though perhaps the latter rules out Gordon facing rotation.

Claret and Hugh has been handed a Jarrod Bowen update. The No 20 is improving from his injury but won’t be sufficiently fit to play against Backa Topola in Serbia on Thursday evening tomorrow in the Group A Europa League game. We were told this morning however that there are high hopes he will be available for the match against Crystal Palace.

Not sure I trust these guys after their update last week where they said he could miss a number of games, feels like they just cover their backs for each possibility (might be out a while / might be back soon). Heck they don't even have the day WHU are playing in Europe right!

Moyes should have a presser tomorrow I think, if he's not in the squad for the EL game I'm just going to assume he's out this weekend (or only able for a few minutes at best)

Yes I know. My reply to your comment was out of agreement.

I've always read two as a couple and "a number of " as more than two. Maybe where you read it's different.

Interesting point on Son, presuming he is the designated Spurs penalty taker is while there has been an average of 1 penalty awarded for every 3 games taking place this season so far, Spurs are one of 3 clubs who have yet to be awarded one.

It's actually difficult to watch top level football now with such a poor standard of refereeing, it feels like the game is being held to ransom by people who don't even like the sport... maybe it's just me.

I genuinely think they've got a really tough gig and the laws of the game have overcomplicated everything. People compare it to Rugby with the VAR but Rugby is pretty clear in the rules generally and its only this newer stuff around head contact which has muddied the waters. Football changes the handball and the offside laws so much.

The best stratagy to score goals in the Champions league is every time you are in you box you just on purpose kick the ball at the oppoents hands and if you hit the hands even point blank it is an automatic penalty, I am not even joking this is actual the best way to score goals in the champions leauge.

      It's ok
I'm personally thinking Son could be a season keeper or at least perhaps until KDB comes back
I have Saka too but 0.15 xG across SHU + BUR + BRE and sharing penalties is a bit concerning
Wolves have scored 1-2 goals in every single game since GW1 (when I don't know how they didn't score in that game!) so not convinced on a CS for Zinny
As a I said - they are ok moves, but not no brainer IMO

Is Saka that much better than Bowen (if fit)?

I have the exact amount to do Bowen > Saka tonight before price rise, but thinking of holding Bowen and spread funds elsewhere.

I would say no. I would say they are about equal, points-wise.

But Saka's not injured, and he's got better fixtures, and is rising in price.

Considering the same. I don't see Son giving much points until Spurs form gets better (or maybe when Maddison returns). At the moment, his price is dropping like a rock for good reason.

        1. SalahFingers
          • 8 Years
          2 years, 3 months ago

          Yes, but here's my thoughts..

Spurs have lost their edge. 0 losses, and then suddenly 3 losses in a row. Sure, defenders were out and the red cards and all that, but Maddison is still out who was a big assister to Son.

Spurs are also against Man City and Newcastle in the next 3 games. If they were struggling before, they are going to struggle more in those games.

Son might still score well, but he's dropping like a rock. He will continue to drop unless he scores well this weekend. If he doesn't score against Man City, it is very likely I'll be able to buy him back at the price I can sell him at (9.4).

You can look at stats all you want, but it's hard to ignore 2, 2, 2 for a 9.7mil player.

He can drop once in price and it doesn't affect me, I bought him at 9.0. I think he has to be given at least WHU. He shouldn't drop below 9.4 before Newcastle. For a hit I'd rather get Darwin than Saka.

            1. SalahFingers
              • 8 Years
              2 years, 3 months ago

Yeah. Everyone is different. I need to free up 0.1 to replace Cash with the player I want, so I'm personally switching out Son.

Darwin is a striker, so really not comparable here.

Three blanks is three blanks, but the end result or small margin offsides don't put me off. Just unlucky whilst Saka was lucky.

              • 8 Years

              Fact

Saka has scored or assisted in 10 out of 12 games.
Son has scored or assisted in 5 out of 13 games

You can say lucky or unlucky all you want. Son is explosive, but isn't scoring in many games and their team is in bad form right now.

Son was extremely unlucky, hattie of offside goals and .68 xGI. Saka didn't do much, but got that annoying assist. I watched both games and I am certainly keeping Son. Bad outcome last week yes, but looking at performances it was at least 75-25 win probability for Son. Fixtures are another story though. How many shots has Saka had during last 4-5 and what are Son's stats. I am definitely keeping Son. However, if I find another way to get Saka, it's perhaps different story.

Bookies odds for them to score:
        Saka 2.8
        Son 4.0

Saka has plum fixture and Son MCI. However, Saka has higher assist threat. For longer term hard to decide.

I think I would maybe want Son more than Saka based on recent performances in a vacuum. Team value could be a factor, but Son is a forward who Spurs are looking to feed at every opportunity.

Saka is playing really wide and has really poor numbers.

I thought ong and hard about this as i need Pedro to Darwin 4-3-3 (then Isak 17-19) hopefully!! (then the other to Mbuemo).

I think you are right. I see Son getting more at Man City(A)/West Ham(H)/Newcastle(H) than Saka at Wolves(H)/Luton (A)/Villa(A) and up to the new year as well.

Son, Bowen, Cash, Alvarez, Maddison falling

...but I personally think they will be wrong on most of those fallers IMO, they haven't been as good this season for some reason

I think it tends to overestimate the amount of price change, especially fallers, and always has.

To me the big failing is that I'm still convinced there is some level of protection for price drops on flagged players that is not picked up by FPL stats. It's is always the flagged players that take way longer to fall in price than predicted.

From FPL Stats - "A players price will change when the total number of transfers in (or out) of that player reaches a threshold value. The rate at which this threshold is reached is dependent on twelve parameters. Unfortunately to complicate matters these individual factors vary throughout the season. This season a further complication has arisen whereby not all transfers are equally effective (e.g wild cards and other factors). This programme now determinesa the probability that each transfer contributes to reaching the threshold"

12 parameters! If we knew what these were, we'd probably suss it better ourselves!

Cracks me up that this is such a simple fantasy game - the scoring is simple, the rules are simple, etc.

Except then the price change mechanism requires a maths PhD to work it out lol

Yeah - imagine trying to explain to a more casual player getting into FPL!

"erm, yeah so the price changes happen each night and are important to think about as you might not be able to make the transfer you want to make if you get priced out ... these changes are driven by transfer activity, but we don't know the rules, it's a secret algorithm, so what you can do is check this fan created website each day, but it's not always accurate"

Yeah - noticed the same - their algo seems a bit off on flagged players
Mitoma current price 6.5m 2.5m owners
            Mitoma GW12 price 6.5m 3.9m owners

He went down from 6.6 to 6.5 fairly rapid, but over a million transfers out since and still no drop.
Maybe it's one of the 12 parameters because he's back to his original price so it's a completely different threshold to meet.
And I can't see FPL Stats to see if he's now locked which would hold his price changes anyway.

I'm not an avid soccer watcher, just occasional highlights of EPL or Champions League, plus friends and my kids games on the sidelines hahaha.

But it always strikes me that handball at the professional level is a bit of a mess where often a player would literally have to make their arms disappear to avoid the penalty, whereas a lot more common sense is applied in the amateur games by amateur referees.

My google of the rules seems like its deliberately vague. Perhaps to provide cover for referees in interpreting something that will always be subjective and difficult to assess in the heat of the moment. But it's probably unintentionally doing the opposite.

I will answer this relevant post.
I agree. But I think the reason for this in handball is that, opposite to football, players are often fouled for being in a certain position. As a football player would never be fouled for just standing still (and in the way of the opponent) a handball player who deliberately stands steps in the way of an opponent is always fouled. Reason may be that the handball players leap pretty far into the box over a wooden floor

Different rules in Europe to PL doesn't help with consistency. The bar is lower in Europe.

I see a lot of Saka in, but personally considering Saka out. That lack of goal involvement is concerning. But I guess he's still involved and maybe still on pens?

It's purely because Bowen is injured, and Son has gotten nothing for 3 games in a row.

Saka is the only decent looking replacement near that price.

    Areola
    Trippier Coufal Taylor
    Salah Son Saka Martinelli Diaby
    Watkins Alvarez

Amissah Archer Branthwaite Porro - 1 FT, 2.6M ITB

Early thoughts on this team please? I think I need to stick to the plan and bring Haaland back in for Luton in GW16.

    A) Save FT
    B) Diaby > Odegaard
    C) Diaby > Mbeumo
    D) smth else?
