UCL FANTASY MATCHDAY 8

GOALKEEPERS

Everton v Arsenal team news: Raya in for Ramsdale, Havertz benched

Being able to select the Real Madrid goalkeeper for just €4.6m is a gift from the game, so grab it with both hands. Andriy Lunin continues to impress whilst the injured Thibaut Courtois (€6.0m) recovers. His recent nine-point return included a huge nine first-leg saves. If Lunin fails to keep a second successive UCL clean sheet, then Arsenal’s David Raya (€5.0m) provides safe hands playing for the best defence in England.

DEFENDERS

FPL Milanista’s Gameweek 25 team + transfer targets 1

Meanwhile, Manchester City have a lovely home fixture against Copenhagen. They’re in relentless form going into the second leg and they enter with two clean sheets from four matches in all competitions. Two of their most reliable defenders for game time are Nathan Ake (€4.4m) and Ruben Dias (€5.4m).

Another defensive double-up should pair Raya with team-mate William Saliba (€5.5m). Although less attacking than fellow centre-back Gabriel (€6.0m), the Frenchman comes at a cheaper price and still offers goal threat, as seen recently against West Ham United.

Then, this backline needs the exciting addition of Federico Dimarco (€5.3m). Inter have sustained one of this season’s best defences across the continent but their wing-back system also gives Dimarco the freedom to get into some incredibly attacking areas of the pitch. In fact, the Italian has racked up a huge 10 attacking returns this season in Serie A alone.

Completing the set this week is former Chelsea man Ian Maatsen (€4.5m). Not only does his price tag enable funds elsewhere but the Dutchman has already delivered a goal and an assist since being loaned to Dortmund in January. As well as that, Maatsen’s side plays at home, with a strong likelihood of a clean sheet.

MIDFIELDERS

The best UEFA Champions League Fantasy players for Matchday 3 2

Bayern may be suffering a mini-slump in terms of results but they are still scoring plenty. One player who has stepped up recently is wonderkid Jamal Musiala (€8.4m), racking up a goal contribution in three successive Bundesliga matches.

UCL Fantasy managers are able to check PSG’s line-up before the deadline which means we can see whether Warren Zaire-Emery (€5.4m) starts. The huge lack of cheap midfield enablers at this stage makes the 17-year-old a solid addition. Not only does he free up the budget for elsewhere, he’s also banked a goal, two assists and two Player of the Match awards in his seven Champions League matches.

With seven goals and two assists during his last 10 matches in all competitions, Phil Foden (€8.2m) could be a tough player to exclude. As well as being in scintillating individual form, he’s part of a side that’s expected to win big.

As for Real Madrid, they finally have their talisman back – Jude Bellingham (€8.0m) is officially fit and ready. The Englishman has been one of Europe’s best players this season due to both domestic and European form. His mammoth 60% ownership means that going without him could seriously threaten your rank.

Furthermore, one home team you should be backing is Arsenal. The Gunners have been exceptional on their own turf, winning all three times with a total of 12 goals. Someone who particularly thrives at home is Bukayo Saka (€9.8m), who collected a double-digit haul on all three occasions.

FORWARDS

The best UEFA Champions League Fantasy players for Matchday 3 1

Not only are Bayern at home, they host a Lazio side who have lost three of their last four Serie A fixtures. Leading their frontline, of course, is Harry Kane (€10.1m), who is blitzing his first season in Germany with 39 attacking returns from just 31 Bundesliga and Champions League matches.

Joining Kane on penalty duty but for a more consistent side is Erling Haaland (€11.7m). The Norwegian has proved to be one of the most explosive Fantasy assets over the last year and going without him could be a serious mistake.

The fact that Kylian Mbappe’s (€11.5m) minutes are being managed is a major restriction. However, it’s also a good opportunity to double up on Real Madrid’s attack against a shaky RB Leipzig backline. To do this, we bring in Vinicius Junior (€11.1m) who, prior to the last Matchday, returned in every one of his Champions League matches. Bellingham’s presence adds to the Brazilian’s appeal.

CAPTAINCY

The lack of Mbappe puts the armband on Harry Kane for the first day, considering his fantastic form and encouraging fixture. An alternative option could be his colleague Jamal Musiala.

On day two, we see both Man City and Real Madrid. Based on the quality of opposition, we should be looking at Erling Haaland or Phil Foden – possibly even Kevin De Bruyne (£10.5m), who doesn’t make the above team due to budget. However, some will instead be tempted by Jude Bellingham or Vinicius Junior on the basis that they’re both likely to play 90 minutes.

Day three is more straightforward, with Bukayo Saka the clear captaincy favourite. As mentioned above, both he and his side have some brilliant home form and another player who didn’t make the team but could be a good alternative option is Martin Odegaard (€9.1m). The midfielder has two goals and three assists from his last five matches in all competitions, amidst a strong run of form.

If you are unlucky enough to not pick up any captaincy returns before the final day, then Inter wing-back Federico Dimarco has multiple routes to points. A more positionally advanced asset would be forward Niclas Fullkrug (€7.5m). Before Dortmund’s first leg, Fullkrug bagged a huge six goals and two assists in five matches.

Anyone on WC31 contemplating going without Watkins and/or Son?

I have both in my team at the moment but, looking at their fixtures from 31 onwards, I wonder if it might be worth trying to bet against them?

I think I'd like Haaland and Darwin for the run-in. I could go for Watkins as well with Garnacho or similar perma-benched but I wonder if Semenyo perma-bench and a midfielder in a higher price bracket would be an option?

Watkins has been great for me (and almost everyone else) and I may well keep him, but I find it interesting plotting potential differential moves for the run-in.

Just drafting at this stage, throwing ideas around. Anyone else?

No. This is the front 7 I'm looking at

      Salah Son, Saka, Foden, Palmer
      Haaland, Watkins (4.2)

Can still afford Gabreil, Porro, and a 4 to 5m D, if I go cheap in goal and on the bench.

Cool. I've earmarked FH for 34, which works out quite well for a few players I've got in my drafts. If it ends up being a double for some less desirable teams, as many are predicting.

The team above is a -4 with FTs for me (after FH29), would be tempted to BB a cheap as chips bench in GW34 if NEW, EVE, CRY, SHU and BOU DGW as appears likely with something like Dubravka, Richards, Brantwaite, McAtee, which would allow me to keep a very strong starting 11 as well.

Nice. SOunds like a very fine plan. I'm more set up for FTs into 29, then WC out of it for 31.

One of my drafts has that front 7 with Semenyo on the bench. Defence is cheap as a result, but not against that.

It will probably be the way to go... but I know the temptation to get Darwin back will be strong for me!

Long way to go yet but I will probably WC in 31 too and neither in my current draft. Was planning on going 3-5-2 with Haaland and Toney up front. Watkins may be hard to leave out though, will decide nearer the time. Need to see a bit of upturn from Toney first.

Cheers. Yeah, still undecided but finding it useful to consider different options. Will be a short turnaround between 30 and 31 too, so it's useful to have an early idea of what to do!

I think you can make a case for going without Watkins from 30/1 as their fixtures toughen up & they go back to a Thurs-Sun routine. Liverpool have much better fixtures so I'm considering going back to Darwin & maybe lining up Højlund for DGW34

    6. AlleRed

Yeah as things stand I think I'll go without Watkins. 31 looks like the perfect entry point to go Darwin and swerve Watkins. I might also need the savings in funds to fill out a reasonable backline. So tentatively on Haaland-Darwin-Muniz. Midfield 5 picks itself. I'd like double Arsenal defense but may only have funds for Gabriel.

Nice one. That's what I'm thinking with Darwin. Raya/Gabriel maybe not the optimal double-up but allows savings. After Forest, I'm not massively sold on Spurs fixtures so might downgrade Son to Maddison or just look elsewhere.

        1. AlleRed

Good shout on Raya, I forget he's an option! Maybe Kiwi too if he keeps his place over Zin. I was thinking maybe Petro/Kelleher GK combo if I need the funds but Kelleher may be a transfer waiting to happen. Broadly thinking to just get as many 37 doublers for BB and just chop and change as necessary until we get there. FH34. Dropping Son 34-36 could be a smart way to fade the template - though if he doubles one of those weeks I guess he has to stay.

    A. I'd like to bring in Solanke for this DGW, and make him captain, I'm assuming that's a popular decision on here?

    B. Who do I drop for this week only, Haaland (liv) or Watkins (TOT). I'm thinking to sell Haaland as I won't have him for his gw blank to follow anyway?

Morris has better data and has been scoring more points lately. Only concern is Solanke plays Sheffield next.

I'm considering getting both and selling Haaland if I FH29 and WC31. Means only losing Haaland for (liv) and (ARS)

Solid. My only question would be whether you want to use a Liverpool spot on (a couple weeks of?) Kelleher & then have to revert back to a terrible West Ham defence. Could you spare a little extra for Neto / Pickford?

Estu is a massive gamble. Brighton are rotating like crazy, and they are even rotating at half-time. They also have European games coming up. If you had Van Hecke, I'd say, keep, he's only 4.1m and good for the bench. But Estu has only made 60 minutes 4 times in the last 9 games. Bournemouth have good fixtures until GW32 and may get a double in GW34. I'm asssuming you will FH29

I went for Zabarnyi. I think Kerkez slightly more attacking, although both are pretty negligible. I also understand that Kelly is first choice but currently injured and I couldn't find an expected comeback date. I worked out I would probably play Bournemouth defence every week until GW32, possibly GW33. Thus, I needed nailedness, so ruled out Senesi and Kerkez. Theres also Smith but he hasn't had a shot all season, whereas Zaba has had a massive 6 lol.

And took Estupinan out for Senesi just before the deadline (lost 3 points)

Clearly I should just stop making transfers

Am I looking more suited to dead-ending in GW29 than taking a FH?

    Leno(*)
    Gabriel Doughty(*) Branthwaite
    Saka Foden Odegaard Son(*)
    Solanke Watkins(*) Morris(*)

    Turner Palmer Porro(*) Taylor

    * = Would play GW29

    Possible transfers;
    Foden & Odegaard to Bowen & Maddison/D.Luiz

With 7 already I think you can avoid FH - assuming that you also have an FT available this week.

I'm on 5 and leaning more towards FH currently, although still tempted to try and get through with a few hits.

          Thanks.
I think 1 hit this week and 1 hit next week could be worth it, in regards to saving a chip.
Many will be taking hits to put a team out for GW34, whereas I find the chip could have more upside that week than 29.
You're, definitely, on the borderline of dead-ending vs FH.

It's the Sheffield Utd game that puts me off that.
However, Solanke is playing with a bit of pain.

Sheffield United away is a different prospect to playing at Bramall Lane.

        Ask Hwang.

Nope. Solanke plays Sheffield and has two home games.

      It doesn't get much better.

Udogie offers a lot more going forward... VDV offers clean sheets not much more, but if you're on a budget, then I guess VDV would have to do.

    Kaminski,
    Senesi, Trippier, Gabriel, Doughty,
    Gross, KDB, Saka,
    Haaland, Alvarez, Watkins,

    Areola, Taylor, Garnacho, Hwang

7 red arrows in a row, down from 69k to 500k, Cannot catch a break atm, I've had some bad bad luck. Do I WC the hell out of this team? or take a -12 to fix it. Was planning to FH in 29

Or ride the double with Luton assets, FH29 straight to WC 30?

In the same boat, getting rid of Watkins and Saka 3-4 GW's ago for KDB + Haaland has killed me. Planning to deadend GW29, WC30 to BB34 and then FH37.

Its been awful, every player I get in lately gets injured in that gameweek, Hwang, Sensesi, Alisson, to name a few.
The sensible option probably is to ride out the double with what ive got, the Senesi injury is so frustrating, but I'm just getting murdered in rank by a few players I don't own each week, like Foden who I had but sold to be able to get KDB/ Haaland in.

Just hating the look of my team.
I may just take a -4 this week to do KDB, Hwang to Son and Foden. Guaranteed though KDB will start bracing once I do

Yeah I think I'd probably WC.

You can set yourself up to cover 28 & 29, and leave enough ITB to get Salah in 30 if fit.

      FH in 34 or 37

I can get to 10 with no hits but five of them are defenders, most of them meh, so I'll likely take a -4 this week or next to get up to 11.

Would you FH in 29 if you were me? If I do Maguire > Doughty this week and Rich > Bowen in 29 I would have 6 projected starters in 29 with no hits.

    A - Take a -4 to get 7 starters in 29
    B - FH

    Areola
    Gabriel - Branthwaite - Gusto
    Foden - Saka - Palmer - Son
    Haaland - Watkins - Solanke

    Raya - Konsa - Rich - Maguire

7 starters is plenty good enough IMO.

Assuming the likely scenario of the "favourites" going through in the FA Cup QF matches, Wolves/Arsenal, Brighton/Chelsea, Liverpool/Fulham, Spurs/City will all be postponed... meaning most people are highly likely to be in the same situation again in GW34 as GW29. The only difference is, while some blank, other teams will be playing twice in GW34.

Essentially free hitting in GW29 = going from 6/7 players to a full 11.
      FH'ing in GW34 = going from 6/7 players to a full 11, with a potential 9 or 10 doublers, so 20+ fixtures!

You're missing that the teams doubling in GW34 are absolute bobbins that are extremely likely to be outscored by the popular players with 1 fixture

Nothing to stop you picking single fixture players within the free hit if you so wish... I'm merely pointing out the ability to have a whole team of double gameweekers with a FH in 34
