Don't see value in Pickford when there is Mykolenko. Either Raya or a 4.5gk

I reckon there is an element in of truth in that. Players like Walker, Foden and Saka who pretty much played every minute could struggle in first few game weeks whereas players like Palmer and Haaland could flourish.

      Not keen on Johnson tbh.

I'd be inclined to downgrade one of Gvardiol or Saliba to a 4.5m def and get someone Bowen or Eze instead.

That would also give you 0.5m left over to upgrade Barco to another 4.5m def for the bench.

Goalkeepers are for the long run, there is usually a lack of clean aheets and Gabriel/Saliba are a good pick for jiat clean sheets theyll rarely get attacking returns. If we don't get news on the Chelsea gk surely Raya is a solid pick?

For me, owning Haaland sacrifices the rest of the team. If no Haaland then you can afford for example Palmer and Saka and also a better bench.

Looks a bit like you sorted out your forward line and then just picked whoever else you could afford. The more I think about this, the more I believe it’s possible to get Haaland’s points (and more) elsewhere by selecting a full squad of quality players, rather than having to cherry pick who I can afford alongside him.

      1. Heavy Cream

It looks different daily. That’s the beauty of it, I can change it to include absolutely anyone else I want, and every time it looks great. Stick Haaland in and it starts to look lopsided. Always had the most success when I’ve filled my team with well-scoring good value picks, rather than trying to fit all the big guns in, surrounded by cheapo make-dos.

        • 5 Years

Agreed a risk, Calafiori smells like he's been signed as general competition for the backline - but doubt he would've signed if he hadn't been told there's a route into the first team

Got to think Timber will have something to say about the LB spot - I know he only played thirty seconds last season but he seems like he ticks all the boxes Arteta is looking for in a full back

        1. The Abyss
          • 13 Years
          2 years, 7 days ago

Know what you’re saying, just think there’s no way Calafiori’s signed for the amount of money he has just to sit on the sidelines. Could be a case of rotation throughout the season, either way it’s too risky to go with anyone but Saliba or White in that Arsenal back line.

Not sure if you’re joking or not! 🙂 I’m saying I don’t think Arsenal have spent that amount on him to then never play him. He’ll get starts this season for sure, and it’s highly probably a number of them (if not all) will be at left back.

Could go either way - Slot has said he'll play with a traditional 9 but seems like all the playstyles he's used previously are more amenable to a Jota type who drops in and runs the play for inside forwards (come on Mo)

He said he’ll play with a 9 for the PL season.
I’m just wondering if he classes Jota as a ‘9,’ as he wasn’t available for the squad last night?

I hope so, Darwin's the type of player we all love but think he could do with someone sharing the load up top and let him develop with some cover

From a cursory google sounds like Jota is linking up with Liverpool's pre-season tour so we should see him get some minutes - wonder if that also means he'll be first choice at least for the first few weeks until Darwin is back up to speed

Pre-season kneejerk - Szoboszlai looks like he could be a big winner under Slot-ball - high energy aggressive no.10 for the Pool with those fixtures

Would also like to see Jota in an amongst it, always been surprised he's never nailed down a starting spot, seems technically brilliant, direct and always finishes his dinner

    For GW1 only:

    A) M.Salah, Virgil, Wood
    B) Son, Alexander-Arnold, Darwin/Gakpo

A - too much variance on who will play up top for Liverpool before we've seen them set out for a few weeks (apart from Mo)

This is the issue, it's Darwin/Gakpo. Could even be Jota. None are nailed, so it's not recommendable.

        You a Pool fan Divock?

I'm a lower league man myself, but why has Jota never been given a nailed spot, every time I see him he looks incredibly dangerous?

If I thought he he got regular minutes, he would be my first choice.

Yep, I'm a big fan of Jota myself, he's so much more clinical and a better finisher than Darwin. I believe Klopp preferred to play Darwin due to his pace and energy which lent itself to our high pressing style. Injuries haven't helped Jota either... Gakpo to me doesn't look comfortable through the middle but he's excellent off the left, which is where Luis Diaz plays. In short, there's too many good players fighting for 2 positions, which rules them all out unless we see Slot confirming who will be first choice. I wouldn't hold out hope for that, I think it's inevitable that we're gonna see rotation, unless we're hit with injuries.

    Look ok? Or need Haaland?

    Sanchez (4.0)

Gvardiol Munoz Mykolenko Livramento/Burn Harwood Bellis

    Salah Palmer Foden Gordon Hudson-Odoi

    Watkins Isak Stewart

Like it, also in the no Haaland camp (almost out of principle at this point)

Gordon's tasty, but do think Harvey Barnes is being slept on, gives you and extra milly to play with and I assume he'll be lining up on the other wing?
