Thoughts on this GW1 BB team?

    Henderson Neto
    Robbo Munoz Murillo Hall Barco
    Salah Eze Kulu Johnson Amad
    Haaland Isak Muniz

No need to use WC in GW2

      Punty.

Are both keepers #1? Neto definitely wasn't end of last season.
      Is Robbo injured?
      Will Amad play?

        Neto can be Flekken.
Amad will definitely play. I am confident there.

Have to watch Robbo and Hall closely

    B) Smith-Rowe + Hudson-Odoi

Don't love West Ham's fixtures but Kudus is the best pick there.

If you're going for an earlier WC then I'd go B based on fixtures alone. Need to watch pre-season for CHO what with Forest signing possible replacements for everyone.

I currently have Gvardiol in my team but I’m concerned about ‘Pep roulette’. I notice that Gvardiol started 26 games last season. Was he injured at any point ? Or did he miss 12 games due to rotation!?

    1. polis
      • 14 Years
      1 year, 10 months ago

He'll be first choice more often than not. It's simple enough to have a 4.5m sub to cover any rotation.

Look at the form end of last season. 6m could (should) be an absolute steal.

He got five assists in 28 starts.

18 is the most-ever by a defender in a Championship season.

Yeah, the Ipswich fan I spoke to for the Promoted series talked up Chaplin, though he did say Hutchinson sometimes started over him in the 10 role during the run-in.

Give me a sec, I'll dig it out.

“Ipswich’s top scorer in each of the last two seasons (joint-top last season with 13, plus 26 goals in League One the season before). Until recently Chaplin has been one of the first names on the teamsheet as the central number 10 and arguably Ipswich’s primary attacking threat.

“It is worth noting however, that towards the busy end of last season, Omari Hutchinson did start in this position on occasion, to very good effect, and that Chaplin’s threat did become less potent during the months that lone forward George Hirst was injured.

“Nonetheless, Chaplin remains a fan favourite, a clinical finisher, and somewhat remarkably for a 5′ 6″ attacking midfielder, a threat on the end of Leif Davis’s precision set-piece delivery.”

This season is a bit different... You can roll up to 5 transfers which is basically a WC in itself.

Saka is a bit of a dodgy pick from the start. GW1 is Arsenal's only decent opening fixture at home to Wolves. He might not start or play 90 mins in this, then Arsenal have three horrible away matches against Villa, Spurs and City. Wait until GW6 for sure.

        1. Boz

Villa and Spurs have a very poor defence. Saka is a captaincy shout in GW3 against Brighton.

If he is back this weekend, which i think he is then there is no chance he is not starting GW1.

Don't mind Saka in the Villa and Spurs game. Opponents defence/ 1V1 battle should suit Saka imo

slightly devil's advocate, but Arsenal tick so many boxes to me

          - settled side and manager
          - improving each season and good chance that this is their equivalent of LIV's 19-20 season

I'd sooner have their assets in poor fixtures than poor assets in good fixtures

and even if they fall short GWs 1-5, you'd still fancy them after that as long term picks

          2. MJF
              1 year, 10 months ago

Also GWs 1-3 feature two banker home matches, so if you're looking very short term I think their fixtures are fine.

See quote in the article above. Had him in initially but now switched to Son as placeholder

I’ve interpreted that as meaning he will miss community shield but be back for Chelsea?

I think the concern is that he won't have had any pre-season minutes if he sits out the Community Shield, so a GW1 start might be in doubt.

Fair enough, damn that 0.5 saving from Son/Saka would do wonders for me, would also mean triple city for the tasty GW2 fixture.

Are people expecting Everton to start the season well? Yes Dyche is a good defensive manager but Branthwaite, Tarkowski and Mykolenko haven't featured in preseason yet and they've lost Onana.

Looking at their squad, I'm expecting them to struggle this season. I think Onana will prove to be a big loss for them.

I think Fulham will also find it tough with Palhinha gone.

I'm staying well away from Everton at this point. Several of the players you mentioned have fitness issues, as referenced in this article:

Yeah, I fully agree with this. Initially I had Mykolenko in my defence along with everyone else, but I took him out a couple of weeks ago. It would be better in FPL terms if their tasty run of fixtures came 3 or 4 GWs into the season, as I don't think they'll exploit them from the start like many people assume.

As far as other teams go, I'm not just looking at who's unlikely to start GW1, but the overall condition of the team. Teams that rely heavily on pressing are generally not up to optimum fitness levels for 3 or 4 GWs and might disappoint in the early games. New managers also might not have fully imparted their philosophies by GW1. I'm wary therefore of including assets from the likes of Liverpool or Chelsea although I'm okay with punting on a 6.5 cheap middy whom I can bench if required.

            Some risky picks there:
            - Will Rogers play often enough?
            - Will Nkunku be able to avoid injuries? How will Chelsea fare under Maresca?
            - Will Havertz continue to play in the false nine role? Might he be rotated more with Jesus?
            - Smith Rowe has hardly played much over the last two seasons. Can he put in consistent performances?

As long as Salah and Haaland score 4 each every week you'll be fine.

Here's my current formulation. Based on the idea building on the most popular picks as a core and then reinforcing that puck with a teammate...

          Pickford
          Munoz Andersen Burn
          Salah Palmer Odegaard Jota Nkunku
          Isak Havertz

          Areola Coufal Mykolenko Ndiaye

When England won the WC in 66 they all played for their clubs a fortnight later. More honest, better days IMHO.

When chimneys were swept in 1874, they were swept by children who their bosses malnourished on purpose so they could fit up the flues.

            More honest, better days IMVHO.
