Great to see Neale back on the player price bracket articles. He always offers insight worth taking a note of.

    Gvardiol Taa abdersen konsa 4.0

    Isak Havertz 4.5

    Any advices?

You should probably try to get 1mil from somewhere so your third striker would be a playing one in order to rotate mids/forwards..

Looks fairly solid. I have a similar draft right now, particularly in the Midfield/Forward areas:

      Pickford (Ward)
Gvardiol Saliba Burn (C Taylor, Faes)
      Salah Son Gordon Nkunku (Winks)
      Isak Havertz Watkins

My only question mark at this moment is Pickford, who may become Martinez.

Def. I was on Muniz for a while. Really can't see him getting more points over the next 3. Easy direct swap if I decide too.

        My other option is Havertz.

I've tried and tried to do the 4.5 x 2 keeper rotation for years.
I "might" get lucky 2 times a season and unlucky 6 times a season picking the correct option with the balance of returns being all but equal.
This season it's a premium plus a 4.0 and let the chips fall where they may.

Going Allison to cover options like TAA/Robertson/VVD that are all currently missing from my team.
Also an easy switch to Raya or whoever if he goes down with an issue.

Last season was poor for him but I'm looking at 150+ for him this year.

      Time will tell

Haaland is almost certainly going to be in my final squad, but the below is a huge upgrade on 5 players (in my eyes):

Haaland CHO Andersen Burn Konsa Flekken
    Or
Wood Gordon Trent White Gvardiol Raya

    Quite tempted

sacrifices needed, unclear if trent and gordon start the season and arsenal defence might not be great for points in first 5

It's certainly not my first choice but last year (probably with the longer matches) the average score from defenders plummeted. I think playing slightly longer also killed of a lot of clean sheet options - even City failed to keep a clean sheet in two thirds of their matches. I figure that if returns will be low, might as well under invest.

I like Isak too, but I want Salah, Havertz and a way into the Arsenal attack, so something has to give...

Just a general question - mainly because I'm trying to weigh up not having Salah in my team.

If you've got Haaland in your team, is there any point having him but not captaining him in any week? For 15m, you'd hope for what, minimum 2 goals or 2 returns per gameweek? Any less than that, is that the point where you have to question having him?

I guess what I'm getting is that if I believe Haaland can get 2 returns per game, he'd wear the armband every week. Then the question is, is there any point in having Salah, if it just breaks the quality for the rest of the team.

That's my brain dump for now.

    1. _Make
      • 8 Years

I totally agree with this assessment and reasoning.

The only thing which is a lot less fixed than people think is whether a particular price does, or does not, tip a player into the realm of 'not an option except as a perma-cap' player.

In this example, is £15m too much? It looks like a lot doesn't it? It's a price hike vs last year and it's up there with the highest prices ever 'charged' by FPL for an asset. But is it too much? that's much harder to tell. Maybe he could be as high as £16m and still not necessarily a captaincy-only option.

Player price rises, like promotions, are inevitable until and unless a player becomes exposed at that price - and Haaland has yet to show that.

I guess it comes down to a detailed VORP for every other position. I ruined my season last season becasue £14m looked 'big number' and I sold Haaland to free up funds for premium players at a time when he was underperforming, Alvarez was matching him, and few of the cheap enablers were doing anything. At that *precise* moment, Gordon and Palmer materialised, Haaland started scoring for fun and Alvarez fell off a cliff.

I quite like the look of some of the teams I have put together which include Haaland AND Salah, so that's why I'm still looking at both of them for the moment. But that could be an emotional response to being burnt last season 😉

    2. I Must Break You
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Haaland and Salah prices aren't justified unless they're captained, just from a PPM / $ perspective. And last I checked you can only captain one of them at a time. So I'm with you completely on this line of thinking

      1. _Make
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 4 months ago

I used to be 100% in this camp, and I still am broadly, but it's not necessarily about captaining them both at the same time, or our inability to do so, it's buying the opportunity to captain the player who is, on paper, the absolute best for a given gameweek.

There will rarely be anyone better than Haaland or Salah, and if you have both you double the chances of hitting the optimum captaincy.

GWs 1-2 are the perfect example of this in microcosm. If you have both players, you can go Ipswich GW1 then Ipswich GW2. If you only have one of these premiums, you have go elsewhere, which could be viewed as suboptimal. There may be other great options, and the best captain in hindsight is often a completely unexpected player, but the most popular captains in these GWs will probably be one of Salah and Haaland, and I would prefer to start the season without taking too many risks.

I think I am going for both and dump one of them with an early WC , maybe gw 4 6 or before 8 then reases

Reassess. As I don't know the answer to your question.

Watkins Isak Mateta can look good up front
Matata has scored 19 in 19 in the Olympics and that was his pre season done. So I expect him back

Maybe I am weighting in pre season too much, but Salah and Haaland are rare premiums that had full summer both to rest and prepare. Only thing is, they are the two most expensive ones :).

Hi all. Say hello to my mates especially those who helped me get over the DE34 fiasco. Ready to go. And my old mates here who I have known for a couple of years or so

Yet to start yet, so will have to catch up on other pre season friendlies

Just got back from the American cup where Palace beat Wolves and West Ham (watched that one as I can stay in Florida easily as have a holiday condo there.

Anyway we won because of :-One word fitness. We were so much better because of the fitness and high pressure. Kamada might be a steal if he is an attacking midfielder for 5.5 but everyone will go Eze.

Anderson was out worst player. Hopefully got rid of his mistakes in pre season

And we won a big trophy lol.

With Guehi probably going. That's is £65m to 70m.. 20m incl add ons to Chelsea and they get 20%of the profit.so about 10m. So about 45m

He is replaceable and will be. Sarr and Kamada are not Olise replacements, but Olise is not replaceable. He was that good but always injured. The release clause ended on June 30th but Bayern stetvhnitbout but the release clause bid was made. The time was drawn out because Bayern knew it but The release clause stated a 1t%sell on fee on the profit. Olise is a class feller. Making sure the clubs that progress him get rewarded unlike Haaland., although he was excellent for Red bull Salzberg and Brossia Dortmund whilst he was there .

Eze will probably stay. Palace now after Sarr signing (great squad filler, perhaps first team) Glasner now has £85m in his pocket. 30m to a CB. He had a budget of £40m anyway if these players were staying. Olise only left because it was a CL club in his RC and it was before June 3pth. Mateta still scoring for France.

We will be pressured to spend to keep the players there, to feel like we are still an ambitious club which we are, Glasner will be off otherwise sharpish.

Any Palace look fit and ready to go even though like other Eze Guehi and Mateta won't have pre season. But the Olympics is a perfect pre season. Mateta is overpriced but that is 19 goals in 19 games now

Oh and Johnstone was injured again in the summer so Henderson will be first choice.

    Enough about Palace.

What have I missed out on.

Especially I have seen Chelsea and Man Utd poor. Liverpool Arsenal Nan City good, and Haaland scoring

Even got to catch up transfers.

    Any good tips?

Will Munoz start in GW1? Just wondering because he's missed all the preseason...

JRS impressed me a lot. Seems like the real deal. Where did you read that he will go on loan? So i should shift to Winks?

Well he either got ill, or got a strop when he couldn't go to Southampton for 12m and didn't like the Sarr signing

So didn't go to America pre season tour.

Then he did. But didn't play in the pre season game (there were two against west ham as both clubs agreed to play first xi v first xi and reserves xi v reserves xi)

JRS didn't play in the second game whilst there

Southampton want to buy him. Or a loan with an obligation to buy. Leeds want a loan to replace Summerville/Gnoto

          He is the real deal.
Palace don't want to sell him. Glasner not impressed with attitude if the story was true as he never started either game, or may play championsdhip on loanfootball next year for Leeds

          Just slot of uncertainty

Would be a great 4.tm to bring in

If it chances in the next 10 days I will let you know. Franca is injured so Eze is nailed as the no 1p on the left with Mitchell overlapping.
Unoz is our right winger really. But tactics change. We are 3 5 2 1 formation at the startTou did a great spot picking a good potential player. But he needs games, he scored 2 or 3 against Crawley and the team to get your players fit. He is like a Rogers at Villa but even a less chance of starting right now

If he scores anoer 20+ from the wing in the championship he'd be worth w5m anyway.

I don't think Dougie Freedman wants him on the bench like last season. He him to get games this year.wants him

I'm on the no-Haaland camp and so I had Foden, but it looks like Pep won't play him at first. What to do? Book a transfer? KDB?

I am. I think I may play early WC as it will take end of August and transfers deadline days and all England players who played

As if Foden is nailed I prefer his value over Haaland but Haaland is nailed at the start

I think it's what I'll do. I haven't seen KDB in basically any team here yet, and I can't really see why tbh.

    Too risky?

    Raya, 4.0
    Gvardial, Porro, Quansa, Robinson, Barco
    Saka, Jota, Gordon, Eze, Bobb
    Haaland, Isak, Joao Pedro

    1. BerryMaze
      • 8 Years

Your team will be fine for the first few weeks but requires an early WC. Quansah and Bobb will be not first-choice for long. Jota is rotation prone when Gakpo, Diaz, Nunez are back. Pedro is a doubt as well.

Quansah may or may not start. Bobb can be gold for two weeks, but after that it's trickier. And I'm hoping Jota to be a guaranteed starter too. His ppm is very good and that would give you a chance to go without Salah and save 5.0.

Is it too risky? I don't think so. You have a good bench to save you if some of those risks don't pay off.

    Same question here: too risky?

    Pope (4.0)
Gvardiol Van Dijk Porro (Barco, Harwood-Bellis)
    Son Jota Gordon Eze Hudson-Odoi
    Haaland Isak (Ladapo)

    Planning to wildcard after GW6.

    1. BerryMaze
      • 8 Years

Way less risky. Harwood-Bellis seems nailed. Jota will become a doubt after a few weeks as he is rotation prone when Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz become available.

        Thanks.

Still not totally convinced myself, because I'm planning a GW3 double transfer Son & Ladapo -> Rogers (or other 5-5.5) & Watkins.

I'm pretty sure that Son will outscore Watkins GW1-GW2. But will the margin be big enough?
