CLUB PICKS
Team selections feel very straightforward this week ahead of Double Gameweek 7. In fact, I would go as far as saying you simply have to pick Huddersfield Town. As well as sitting fourth in the league after an impressive start, the Terriers have two fantastic home fixtures. I would back them to win, keep a clean sheet and score goals in both. There is some debate over the second best team to pick but I think it’s Peterborough United. Although inconsistent, the Posh face two opponents who have lost three of their last four matches. For that reason, I think they have better potential than any other doublers, bar Huddersfield.
GOALKEEPER
Being able to select just two players from each team is annoying so I can’t opt for Huddersfield’s Lee Nicholls (G). For that reason I have gone for the next best option, or at least in my opinion, Jed Steer (G) I’m not expecting two clean sheets from Peterborough but with two bites at the cherry he could rack up some save points, who knows, he may even outscore Nicholls.
DEFENDERS
I have decided upon a back three this week. This is mostly because I’m not hugely keen on many of the attackers with Double Gameweeks. I also really like the numbers that my defensive selections are putting up recently. One of them is Michal Helik (D). Having a Huddersfield defensive asset is probably essential when taking into account the two fixtures and the fact they have collected four clean sheets in all competitions this season. With that in mind, Helik is my pick. As well defensive contributions, Helik bagged nine goals in the Championship last season so he also evidently offers an attacking threat.
Wigan Athletic are starting to click defensively, it seems, after keeping back-to-back clean sheets in their last two league matches. For me, their standout pick is Will Aimson (D), who has picked up an extra 13 points for clearances, blocks and tackles.
Completing my defensive line is James Husband (D). Blackpool have two tough away matches against Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield, which I also think could be great opportunities for him to rack up defensive actions. Unbelievably, the Seasiders man has also netted three times already this season (+18) so he could even treat owners to a goal!
MIDFIELDERS
In midfield, I have decided to back Thelo Aasgaard (M). Although I’m not massively convinced by him this week, coming off the back of a 4-0 win will do wonders for the Wigan frontline. Aaasgaard was prolific during pre-season, scoring five goals in four matches, and has since added to his tally with another three goals (+18). The Norwegian has also collected between 3-6 points in all three of his last matches through additional actions (interceptions and shots on target).
Peterborough face two sides who have conceded two or more goals in three of their last four matches so buying into their frontline could be hugely beneficial. The only player who really stands out to me is Kwame Poku (M). As well as claiming an attacking return in each of his last two matches, Poku also registered a brace (+12) in his Gameweek 1 fixture.
FORWARD
The striker pool feels very limited this week in terms of double Gameweek players. In fact, I nearly convinced myself to back single Gameweek player Jodi Jones (F), who has been relentless for Notts County so far. Nevertheless, I have a feeling he’ll revisit my team in Gameweek 8. For now, I have settled with one striker, Josh Koroma (F). Koroma spearheads the Terriers’ frontline going into two plum home fixtures after bagging a brace (+12) in his latest match. I’m pretty sure he will be my captain going into Gameweek 7, but I will also heavily consider Poku.
