Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways on Monday, thanks to first half goals from Elliot Anderson (£5.0m) and Chris Wood (£6.9m).

The Tricky Trees 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur is the next Gameweek 33 match to get the Scout Notes treatment.

WHY ELANGA WAS SUBBED OFF

In-form Anthony Elanga (£5.4m) started this match and looked dangerous in the first half.

Playing through the middle with license to roam, he provided the assist for Wood’s goal, so it came as a bit of a surprise to see him substituted at the break.

The switch involved a tactical reshuffle.

With Forest more than happy to back themselves defensively, Morato (£4.5m) was sent on, as Nuno Espirito Santo moved to a back five formation.

“We were controlling the game but Tottenham were having lots of crosses and space in the wide areas, so it [half time change] was about having an extra man and squeezing a bit more. You have one less man to press in midfield but you then have one more in the box.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

WOOD ENDS GOAL DROUGHT

Chris Wood ended his drought in north London, notching his 19th Premier League goal of the season and his first since Gameweek 25.

It was the Kiwi forwards’ only shot of the match, but he did impress with his overall centre-forward play, and prior to this goal, had another effort ruled out by VAR.

Forest’s game plan hardly helped, with the Tricky Trees happy to defend deep and soak up the pressure.

In fact, Nuno’s entire team were restricted to just four shots and 0.64 expected goals (xG) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Still, it was a positive night for Wood, who was withdrawn on 75 minutes, surely with one eye on Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

SPURS DEFENCE BODES WELL FOR LIVERPOOL IN GAMEWEEK 34

As for Tottenham, to say they’ve got defensive issues would be an understatement.

Spurs supporters booed the team off at half-time on Monday, having allowed Forest to build a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Guglielmo Vicario (£4.8m), who made a string of errors at Molineux in Gameweek 32, really ought to have done better with both goals, as well as the one that was ruled out.

Cristian Romero (£4.9m) and Micky van de Ven (£4.5m), meanwhile, struggled to deal with long balls.

“Another disappointing loss. A loss that for large parts was self-inflicted. We conceded two poor goals and gave ourselves a mountain to climb. It’s hurt us all year, we’ve let ourselves down. It’s a game we should have won tonight and it’s another one this year. There shouldn’t have been a slow start.” – Ange Postecoglou

“It’s the finer details… concentration, focus, understanding the threats the opposition have.” – Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham face Liverpool at Anfield next, in what could be the match that confirms the Reds as champions.

And with an important UEFA Europa League semi-final against FK Bodo/Glimt to follow just a few days later, owners of Liverpool attackers will have been licking their lips watching this.

“It is a bit of a balancing act. We have got to be ready for Thursday week, that is the big game for us. We have to have all of our players healthy and in good condition.” – Ange Postecoglou

RICHARLISON THREAT

Tottenham did at least improve after conceding twice, with Mathys Tel (£5.8m) and Wilson Odobert (£5.3m) dangerous down the flanks.

They finally got the breakthrough when Richarlison (£6.8m), who started in place of Dominic Solanke (£7.3m) up front, glanced Pedro Porro’s (£5.3m) cross into the far corner beyond the impressive Matz Sels (£5.1m).

Richarlison racked up seven shots in the box in Gameweek 33, including three big chances.

Above: Richarlison’s shot map v Nottingham Forest

Porro, meanwhile, whipped in 23 (!) crosses and created seven chances for his team-mates.

There were other opportunities, too, with Dejan Kulusevski (£6.2m) having a header cleared off the line.

Spurs had nothing to show for it, however, even if on another day, Forest could easily have conceded two or three.

Finally, Postecoglou confirmed that Romero and van de Ven’s half-time changes were pre-planned.

“I thought they needed to play some minutes tonight because it becomes 10 days leading into Liverpool. With both of them we’ve got them in a really good place physically now and I just want to keep them ticking over. I felt that there was no need to play more than 45 minutes today and we need to get a couple of others game time.

“I just felt that if it was Sunday we probably wouldn’t have played them, but on a Monday, especially for Micky because he’s been playing just one game a week, we need to build him up because he’s in a really good place at the moment so I thought 45 minutes for both of them would be beneficial.” – Ange Postecoglou on his pre-planned half-time changes

I know GW33 isn't over yet but thoughts on FH34?

    Pope
    Trent, Kerkez, RAN
    Salah, Mbeumo, Bowen, Barnes, Iwobi
    Isak, Strand-Larsen

XXX, Sessegnon, XXX, XXX (three slots for 21.9M but obviously most likely, benched...)

      Mine looking like this currently:

      Bentley (Sels)
      Sessengnon Schar TAA (Ait-Nouri Cucurella)
      Palmer Salah Iwobi Murphy (Mbeumo)
      Wood Isak Cunha

I fancy Fulham keeping a CS before Pool and Bournemouth, really. There's a fair attack to Sessegnon as well. JSL over Cunha? I'm thinking about captaining the latter.

Thanks as always. BTW does anyone know if we will know the DGW teams in GW36 before GW35 starts? I have my WC to use in GW35. The two FA Cup games are played this Sat and Sunday in the midst of GW34.. I read there's a possibility for a DGW in GW37 (a mess for us)

So glad I went with my gut and didn't play BB to 'get it out of the way' as most CC's were advising. Would have got 6 points in total after Forest conceded late. GW36 looks better with double Forest defence v Leicester

Some of them are alright tbf and they usually play a straight bat with their advice to avoid getting pelters. But you're probably safer doing your own research and choosing who you seek advice from.

Which GK is best for FH34?

A - Pope (NEW better at home although Ipswich have Delap back)
B - Sanchez (CHE 4th best home record in league although Everton are no pushovers and could bounce back after City loss)
C - Sels (Very solid at home but up against Mbeumo & Wissa)
D - Leno (safest way into Fulham defence due to minutes risk with Sessegnon but Southampton outplayed West Ham and scored at their gaff)
    E - Other?

Go with nine or swap one or more of these guys for someone else?

Saka (logic: once Liverpool win their next match, may be rested for CL)
Kiwior (similar logic, but Arsenal aren't exactly flush with defensive options)
Rogers (probably not since they'll likely be in contention for a CL spot until the last day of the season)
Marmoush (same as Rogers, plus he's got good fixtures)
    Munoz (nothing to play for)

With lot of people talking about free hitting in gameweek 34 and teams being similar as most will be on triple newcastle, having at least one liverpool attacker and going for Wolves and maybe some Fulham i think captaincy will be the decider. Which of the following would you consider between Salah, Isak, Palmer or Murphy? Any other options?

Thoughts on TAA as a pick? Risky with Bradley playing well or start back into th starting XI.

Not enough option at back unless you are willing to double/triple on Fulham/Wolves defenses. Lets say I feel a NEW defender + attacker from Fulham/Wolves is a better combo than defenders from those team and triple NEW attack.

Schar over Trippier for feel, nothing statistical/eye-test about it.

People going for Mbeumo - you are chasing last week's points. Brentford's home form is where it is at and they play away this week to the 3rd best defence in the league. Or am I the one who is missing something?

    1. Holmes

I think he is well capable to get something against Forest but I would expect the ceiling to be low.

If I was rolling with 5 midfielders this week, he would be one of them. Probably misses out in 4-men midfield.

He is 2nd highest scoring player in the game, got to respect that. Scoring/assisting one goal is never out of question. Deflection/error, anything is possible. Its not like Brentford are Saints/Leicester-like unit, so he is likely to get chances but as I said, they will get very limited chances, hence low ceiling.

Fwiw, they have lost only once in last 8 away games.

Yeah he has been a great FPL asset all season and having the season of his life IRL - I have had him for most of it and will bring him back in next week for United. However, on his record so far this season, as I have just responded below (edited to add the caveat of a penalty):

7 goals, 3 assists away all season against totals of 18 and 7 respectively. Important to note that 2 of those away goals and 1 away assist came at Southampton and 1 goal and 1 assist (both away) came at Leicester. So basically, half and 2/3 of his away returns all season came against two of the worst teams the Premier League has ever seen. Additionally, he has had 5 penalties (although admittedly not sure if these are away or at home and he still has to score them). Forest have the 3rd best defence in the league and play on the counter plus are pushing for a CL place so have something to fight for. I just can't see Brentford getting anything (unless it is a penalty).

Be lucky to get one goal against us , as we play counter attacking football. Would go somewhere else as I agree with Holmes higher ceilings elsewhere.

You are preaching to the choir mate - great player but not for this week for me - United at home, Ipswich away and then Fulham at home though.....

I think you're missing him being the 2nd top scorer in the game. You cant do that even with a lot of the premiums misfiring without just being a good footballer capable of returning in any game. If we're talking about FH34, in isolation its not a great fixture for a one week punt but Forest could be tired from FA Cup semi.

Nothing particularly unusual about a 60/40 home/away split, is there? Seems to me people have been going way overboard on these stats for Brentford this year just because of how the fixtures have fallen

Well it is 2/3 assists and 1/2 goals (just under) and the distribution is a little difficult with half of all that coming against two awful teams. I think he is a good player and I rate him highly, both IRL and in FPL, but I still think it is better to get him against United than Forest.

It is but on a cautionary note theres a lot of luck involved as they don't even have the best defence in the league on xgc. Should have conceded about 20 more than they have. Premier League strikers will be more clinical. Very concerning amount of goals scored for Burnley, marks them down as a sort of mid-table Championship attack. Suspicion is they will struggle big time next season.

A lot of people going on about free hit teams and differentials for the blank, of which most teams will be similar but question is who is the standout captain? Currently leading mini league by 15 points and have a short at being manager of the month. Isak, Salah or Palmer?

What's wrong with that? Some in here might not be aware of it. Either way, CCs will push most of these players as they are heavily influenced by this site and it will be close to the template by deadline.
FHers and non-FHers can compare their teams to it.

What should we talk about in here, climate change?
