In Gameweek 2 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 28 players earned defensive contribution (DefCon) points.

Here we find out who qualified and the total number of DefCons they accumulated.

As a reminder, outfield players are rewarded with extra points if they meet the following criteria:

PositionDefensive contributionsPoints on offer
Defenders       10 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT)+2
Midfielders and forwards12 clearances, blocks, interceptions, recoveries and tackles (CBIRT)+2

PLAYERS WITH DEFENSIVE CONTRIBUTION POINTS IN GAMEWEEK 2

DEFENDERS

Once again, it is centre-backs who dominate this list.

A total of five defenders, all of whom are centre-halves, accumulated 14 DefCons in Gameweek 2, including Marcos Senesi (£4.5m).

Bournemouth centre-backs were DefCon magnets in 2024/25, a trend that has continued into the new season, irrespective of the personnel involved. In the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, both Senesi and Bafode Diakite (£4.5m) banked extra points.

Senesi, for his part, is one of only seven defenders to have received the bonus in both Gameweeks 1 and 2:

  • Dan Burn (Newcastle United)
  • Matthijs de Ligt (Manchester United)
  • Maxence Lacroix (Crystal Palace)
  • Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth)
  • James Tarkowski (Everton)
  • Sepp van den Berg (Brentford)
  • Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Elsewhere, three newly-promoted defenders qualified for extra points: Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal (£4.0m), Leeds United’s Joe Rodon (£4.0m) and Sunderland’s Reinildo (£4.0m).

Minutes played were once again crucial: every defender who qualified for the bonus in Gameweek 2 played the full 90, except Michael Kayode (£4.5m).

Regarding the leading defenders for DefCons thus far, Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) is in the lead with 36. Senesi follows in second place with 29, while Maxence Lacroix (£5.0m) ranks third with 28.

MIDFIELDERS

As many as six (!) Brentford players collected two points for their DefCons in Gameweek 2, including three midfielders.

The Bees, who ceded 76.4% possession to Aston Villa, defended deep, packed the box, and, in a gritty display, earned a priceless 1-0 win.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s Mats Wieffer (£5.0m) also qualified. He’s the only midfielder to have picked up DefCon points in Gameweeks 1 and 2, although he has played at right-back in both matches.

The same applies to Everton’s James Garner (£5.0m), who has been deployed as a makeshift left-back in the absence of Vitalii Mykolenko (£5.0m).

Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) needed just one more clearance, block, interception, recovery or tackle (CBIRT) in Gameweek 1, but he hit the target against Fulham on Sunday. Those extra points effectively cancelled out the two he got deducted for missing the penalty.

Elsewhere, Elliot Anderson (£5.5m), Jack Grealish (£6.5m) and Lucas Paqueta (£5.9m) finished on 11 DefCons in Gameweek 2, just one short.

No forward reached the required threshold, with Richarlison (£6.7m) and Igor Thiago (£6.0m) the closest on eight.

    My WC:

    GK (Dubravka)
    Livra Murillo Porro (Tarkowski Reinildo)
    Salah Reijnders Semenyo Enzo (Kudus)
    Ekitike JP Gyökeres

I don't think that you need Ekitike vs Arsenal, so you could downgrade him (or possibly Gyokeres) and upgrade Enzo. If Isak signs to Liverpool Ekitike becomes a sell and JSL probably/possibly a buy.

Are you joking. Liverpool conceded two against 10 men the other day, were bossed in the 1st half, conceded two at home against Bournemouth and have been dreadful defensively. Gyokeres could really punish them.

Those with all chips intact, have you planned anything? I feel like BB gw5/8 might possibly be worth considering, because both Palmer and Saka are not eating the budget and having 8 attackers is viable option now. Dead ending to BB5 and WC6 might be an option?

Injuries aside, I was thinking of wildcarding around GW8 when Arsenal have a good fixture run. I have done very little, i.e. none, research beyond that.

Thinking of BB when we get 5 FT's for AFCON. Everything else is up in the air at the moment.

The other way might make more sense, WC around 13, get a good bench BB after that and divest in 16 with those ft.

I think this is the move. From what i remember from preseason discussions, it's close to the point where we get the 2nd bench boost too.

If you're looking to minimise disruption to your squad and you generally play with a very cheap bench, you can use the AFCON transfers to sort your bench and do two bench boosts in quick succession.

Then you might have to spend a few stockpiled transfers or wildcard out of if to go back to the thin bench strategy.

Finally settled on my WC, how does it look guys? Semenyo/Saliba benched this week due to fixtures.

Both Saliba and Semenyo are premium picks in my eyes. Defensive points, threat on corners, and you never really know how teams turn up on derbies. Arenal have been really good against top 6, even Tottenham kept a clean sheet against City away. Would be a real shame if United then go on to concede a silly goal and Dorgu contributes to nothing else in that game.

I'm not a fan of selection based on fixtures as sometimes certain games look easier on paper - I prefer realistically imagining how the games are gonna go, and going with the gut feeling in the end.

Totally get the logic/makes sense, just not sure Saliba keeps a clean sheet, but maybe the contributions and additional points may help him there.

Don't have Bruno and if I'm going for a United player, I want to take the risk on Cunha. But if I already had Bruno, he would be an easy captain choice.

Elanga is only slightly better option to start than Reindeer, I don't think it's worth a transfer. More value with upgrading a defender or saving that transfer imo.

"Not as bad as feared" may be almost anything but season ending. Quite often it has been longer than we would have expected. And since it's muscular and not a knock, his minutes are prolly going to be managed when he comes back. Since he was my only injured player, I just sold him for Cunha before his price rise. His form wasn't great at the end of the last season nor in the first game and I have J P in my team, so decision making for my team wasn't difficult. I also have Andersen who should basically have floor of 3 points on my bench.

How does this WC draft look?

Already had Ekiteke + Watkins so planning to stick with them over the more popular Wood/Pedro. Started without Salah and still not interesting in going with him atm. Will move to Arsenal players Gyok etc in 7/8 once their good fixture run kicks in...

      Vicario
      Porro - Dorgu - Neco
      Mbeumo - Kudus - Sarr - Reijnders
      Haaland (c) - Watkins - Ekiteke

      Dubravka - Semenyo - Munoz - Senesi

Watkins had averaged around 15 goals a season, every season, and his next 5 couldn’t be better. Feels better to stick with him while Gyok has a tough few weeks then be able to move to him at the same price whenever I do?

Would be worried about Ekitike minutes if Isak is signed
Forest still looking for a fullback who could challenge/replace Neco
Sarr minutes could be managed thanks to conference league, which could dent Palace attack as well
Spurs looking for another attacker, along with Solanke return, could dent Kudus' minutes, and he doesn't seem much of a goal threat
        Reijnders isn't nailed

Overall, it's a deep squad so it allows you to take some risks with minutes/starts. Sarr and Kudud are probably still reasonable value, but I do feel there's something underwhelming about the team, and it's probably the money tied up in Watkins, for no apparent reason (to me, anyway).

With the Watkins money, it’s his nice run of fixtures while waiting for Gyok to get through his tough patch. Ekitike has started well for me, so feel I should keep him, then already have the money there to move either 1 to Gyok when needed or even elsewhere.

Why can't Scout have a tick box option to disable the paid membership ad pop-up for non-paying members?!

Couldn’t agree more, a simple addition would remove the frustration for many of us who naively thought this would be disabled already.

they want to intrude as many viewers as possible so that they can suck new members into giving up money due to a "exciting limited offer"

They think it affects only a small number of users a small amount of the time, even though they designed it to reach every non-paying user every time they return to the site or open it in a new tab

I dont pay. I use a mobile and I see the message max once per day. When I do see the message I close it within a second or two.
From my perspective I dont see what all the fuss is about.

Well, that's nice for you then! Others see it more often than that. Depends on when a new "session" starts. For me, I'd see it multiple times in a minute, potentially, as I open new tabs on the desktop as my basic way of navigating the site.

I just tested. You are right. If I open a new tab on my browser I get the pop up but if I just use the tab I used previously then I rarely (max once per day) see the message.

Unfortunately, that has not been my experience when using the mobile browser. The ad pops up whenever the browser tab refreshes after I return to the page following use of another app on my phone

That does sound frustrating. I haven't seen the popup at all today despite my session expiring and needing to login again. Could it be cookie related? Maybe device related? Maybe even profile related since I was a paying member about 10 years ago?

It's cookie-related. Session cookie expires after a certain time if you are not active. The modal advert (aka "pop-up") is tied to the session cookie, so presents when loading a page where a session cookie is created (where one didn't already exist). This is my layman's understanding. I'm not a dev, and could be off on the exact details.

Or even an option to temporarily disable it for x number of days. Something that reduces the frequency of the pop up ad.

          same on WC

i was on Vicario with Munoz (milenkovic and cucurella my other solid starters)

but now may have pickford instead with munoz and then van de van as 4.5 on my bench as backup

Just noticed on livefpl, my team has no clones in the top 9 million teams! Not sure that's a good thing....
      Sels Dubravka
Cucurella Williams VdV Wan Bissaka Esteve
      Salah Palmer Bruno I.Sarr Tielemans
      Watkins Evanilson Guiu

      Thinking of Palmer to either
      A) Semenyo
      B) Reijnders
      C) Kudus

With the money, would you upgrade Guiu to Pedro?

Salah is a no go for me when Palmer and Saka are fully fit. However, with their injuries, his price isn't an issue and he's still better than the under 8m options in isolation. Plus the fact that he's a good captain candidate in week 4 and 5

        Would U take this hit?

Saka and Palmer ----> Salah and Sarr (-4)

Rutter could return this evening after missing out at Everton on Sunday.
