Suspensions

Hugo Ekitike (£8.7m) will be banned in Gameweek 6 after being sent off for two bookable offences in the EFL Cup tie against Southampton on Tuesday.

Punishments for individual yellow cards are competition-specific, as we discuss in our weekly Suspension Tightrope article.

But suspensions for dismissals in cup games cover all competitive domestic matches.

So, Ekitike is handed a one-match ban and must sit out this weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The next big question: will Alexander Isak (£10.5m) start at Selhurst Park?

The Swedish striker had been building his fitness up gradually for the Reds after a disrupted pre-season. Indeed, he’s yet to start in the Premier League since his big-money move.

After getting nearly an hour against Atletico Madrid a week ago, he lasted only the first 45 minutes of the win over the Saints.

Arne Slot will hopefully tell us more about Isak’s fitness in his post-match presser. We’ll relay any notable quotes in our EFL Cup Scout Notes.

If Isak isn’t ready for starting duty, we could see Cody Gakpo (£7.7m) or Florian Wirtz (£8.3m) – who featured as a false nine in pre-season – through the middle on Saturday.

Actually considering a bench boost here (benching headache otherwise!)… 2FT and £2.1m ITB but not entirely sure what to do with it. Thoughts appreciated!

    Raya(new) Dubravka(mci)
    Munoz(LIV) VdV(WOL) Senesi(lee) Gudmundsson(BOU) Burn(ARS)
    Kudus(WOL) Grealish(WHU) Gakpo(cry) Semenyo(lee) Reijnders(BUR)
    Haaland(BUR) Watkins(FUL) JPedro(BHA)

Gakpo was going to be a goner but this throws a spanner in the works (not that Palace away is an easy game at all); Dubravka is the obvious one to replace for BB, with someone like Roefs perhaps - maybe Burn or Munoz too, at a push, for Tarkowski - but frustratingly happy with them all otherwise…

I don't really get the terrible top post thing.

The position has no bearing on quality, there shouldn't be a higher threshold for top of the page.

You should just apologise for a terrible post 🙂

I don't know if I could do a GK and/or DEF transfer just for the BB

But the front 8 is strong, so see why you're considering it. Probably benching Gakpo atm? Or Watkins?

And would you be comfortable benching all of Dubravka(mci), Munoz(LIV) and Burn(ARS), then? Tarkowski(WHU) is the main option that jumps out at me for any of the latter (would move for a Gunner but feels a week too early), replacing Munoz whose fixtures now aren’t so great. Could also save funds with Alderete (whose fixtures are arguably better than Everton’s), though.

Normally I'd say no, but this season...

I've already not bench boosted a 18 and 19 because I thought the defenders wouldn't return

cheers! yeah it actually wasn’t entirely planned, just glanced down at the bench tonight and went “hmm…”

Could do, but similar issue to Dubravka in that long term I like having him there as a reliable bargain pick. Leeds better fixture than Burnley this and arguably in immediate future weeks too is what’s swaying me towards GK switch, but then again Dubravka could make plenty of saves against City and then it backfires!

              Sooner sell Munoz or Burn?

Don’t think a GK change to make a BB look better is worth it.
Front 8 is strong and the defence ain’t bad. I would only use 1 of the FTs if you really want to and go for it.

Probably A and an Arsenal defender can wait til next week.
I already did Gakpo to Foden but regretting that now as I also have Ekitike.
Gakpo is now more likely to start this week you would think.

I think Gakpo will struggle vs Muñoz and Reece James for the next two GWs.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool don’t score in either game, especially if Isak is still not ready for 90mins

They will score just after 80 minutes depends who is on the pitch then.
Tbf I wouldn’t put you off losing Gakpo but it’s weird one on the few pool players that - looks like beating someone but the stats are not there and the assists were nothing special just sideways passes that someone knocked in.
And Foden keeps trolling me but I keep going back there. The next 3 fixtures are nice. Really a place holder for Palmer if he is good to go by 9

I’m really tempted to go without Liverpool attackers until Isak is fully fit.
I think João Pedro is a better option for now

Don’t disagree on that either. Thinking of holding off til 12 for Isak and going hard now on Che, City attack and Gyokeres with 2 Arsenal defenders while the have the fixtures. Calculated risk going without pool attack but the fixtures are not as good as others, points getting spread around and who knows how much time Isak gets for now.

Could work as a 343 if you think Stach can keep bringing in some returns. 433 could work too but I think Timber and Chalobah not 100% nailed. Gotta take some risk if you want to have some fun

Yeah I like it but fodder at 4.0 that plays. At the Reijnders price Caicedo is a great option too, but don’t how much more defensive downgrading you can do til its bare bones. But in theory cheap DC monster defenders allowing you Salah and Haaland could work.
Have you considered what you would do to get Isak in a few weeks if he kicks off. Lose Salah to fund or you want to keep Salah and Haaland long term?

Sry just saw this now. It's just my ideas for wc and turns out I can get that team with Chalobah and that mid line minus Stach only for 4 transfers. So if I'm going this way I will do it with transfers not WC. But I'm still thinking about it, not quite sure will it be worth it

Looking to scrape the last bit of cash and even go Guiu for 4.3 Che up front. Can get to something like this in the short term but my TV is pretty decent and this is right at 0.0 and a few hits to get there. Richards probably ends up being more like a 4.0 Sunderland defender but it looks decent.

        Raya

        VVD Gabriel Senesi

        Palmer Foden Semenyo Caicedo Reijnders

        Haaland Isak

        Dub Richards Rodon Guiu

Question would you bother having Gyokeres in the Isak spot for a few weeks or just get in Isak earlier.

I just bought tark, but my buy is skewed by gw8wc

Porro very underrated imo. People think that because vdv scored, now porro is a waste of money but he is more attacking, less injury prone, and in a season where money means little he can be a very solid player to set and forget.

I'd go B. Semenyo's fixtures are against good defences next few.

    First on bench
    Burn or Elliot?
Would be Elliot if I knew he started but Burn could easily get DC points against Arsenal.

      Burn

I personally do not like elliot at all, annoying pool player who scored a really free goal in the cup and now gets so much hype for it.

Burn for the DC and newcastle are arsenal's bogey team

      WHo is the other?

Last bench is Ekitike til I can get rid next week.
Ok Elliot was surrounded by a different class of player at pool but some of the balls he played Salah in with were just pure class the kinda reverse passes that most players don’t see never mind execute. On the flip side he did nothing with the minutes he got last week except play short sideways passes while continually looking for the ball.

Is Tarky really worth 5.5m? Yes he's a DC beast but Everton are conceding most games. Are their better value for money DC options other than Senesi and Andersen? Burn will get more cleanies and it's not that much extra to get Gabriel or Califiori

I just bought but only for 2 weeks before wc8

I think he is a really reliable player (yes everton fan) but in a side with little rotation, and a reputation for cs, Tark is 100% worth the money.

I think that after selling palmer or saka, most people actually have heaps itb. Before my moves this week, i had almost 4mil just sitting there. I blew most of it on bruno and tark, but i feel like i can choose my squad without constraints.

I think he's a good pick but just a little unsure over his price given the alternatives. I would expect Moyes to target West Ham at set pieces this weekend and so he could do really well.

I played my WC in GW4 and have 2FT. Would you bring him in if no WC on the horizon? I have Lacroix (poor fixtures) and Livra (should have gone for Burn due to lack of DC) who I am looking to switch out.
