Suspensions

In Gameweek 5, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.0m) became the first Premier League player to collect four bookings this season.

And so, everyone’s favourite alarmist Fantasy article is back!

Yes, the Suspension Tightrope has been relaunched for the 2025/26 campaign.

In this weekly series, we keep track of which Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are racking up yellow cards and how close they are to a one-match ban.

We also reveal when the cut-off dates are for suspensions and how many bookings players have to avoid in order to dodge a ban.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

Gameweek 6 ban

The table above is taken from the Football Association website. It details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark. This is an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

ON FOUR + THREE YELLOW CARDS

Gameweek 6 ban

Dewsbury-Hall is the only Premier League player on four cautions. The 4.9%-owned midfielder has to avoid another yellow card in the next 14 Gameweeks to swerve a one-match ban.

There are four others on three bookings, all of them central midfielders. None of them is owned by more than 0.4% of FPL managers.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL notes: Maresca on Sanchez, Jackson scare + Bowen up front

Hugo Ekitike (£8.7m) will be banned in Gameweek 6 after being sent off for two bookable offences in the EFL Cup tie against Southampton on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Casemiro (£5.5m), Tomas Soucek (£5.7m) and Reinildo Mandava (£4.0m) will be suspended for the next one, two and three league matches, respectively.

Mykhailo Mudryk (£5.0m) also remains provisionally suspended by the Football Association.

Someone who isn’t flagged in FPL, despite a Gameweek 5 red card, is Robert Sanchez (£5.0m). The Chelsea goalkeeper was sent off for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity in Gameweek 5, an offence that carries the punishment of a one-match ban. But he’ll serve that suspension in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City, so he’ll be available in Gameweek 6.

Don’t take it as gospel from me mate, source is literally beer garden chat. There’s some fixture congestion if palace progress in the league cup with their European commitments too, I think it leads to one blank and one double for them and their league cup opponents in GW16, but again don’t take as nailed on

Any week where my teams looks rubbish on paper, and there are 3-4 players that I'd REALLY want that gameweek.
I'm certainly not planning my current team and future transfers around chips first half of the season

5.5m, starter, already scored couple and playing Wolves in gw8.
Also Sunderland looking decent for a promoted side.

Isn't there a chance of a double in the first half of the season?

That'd be more useful to know right now rather than how many yellow cards Lukic from Fulham is on.

They could blank and Palace cup opponents in the League Cup if they make it through the next round could possibly double.

I think Europa means Palace have to play the League Cup when they play Leeds as that progresses to Wembley early.

That would be re-arranged for 2026.

If the league cup opponents were a Premier League team in Europe then they could double for some reason.

          Albeit I'm not sure why...

          The blank is more likely.

On the Afcon transfers, I assume Salah (and all other African players) will be shipped by all and sundry, will this drive his price down and mean he can be picked up slightly cheaper for second half of season or will they freeze the price knowing it’s for AFCON

I had Bruno GW1-3 then wildcarded and got Cunha who got injured then sold him for Mbeumo 😆

I like Mbeumo and he is ridiculously attacking and getting in great positions however we are seeing how Bruno just always gets in the points most weeks and I think he will comfortably be the highest scoring United player again.

When would you wildcard if not this week?

I think you can significantly improve your whole squad but your defence in particular. I also own Porro and Muñoz but they are not good value when we have Romero/Lacroix/VDV/Richards and mor excellent 4.5 defenders in Senesi/Andersen. Dorgu and Kroupi need to go also and I imagine you prefer other keepers over Sanchez now.

Your midfield is very good though.

I could just push it further and eventually decide on a week by week basis. You are right about the defence tho would the picks I may get actually outscore my current defenders this week?

    2. WhatWouldYourZlatanSay

I had 6 of the front 8 in common and got rid of Watkins and Bruno (was a really tough call between him and Salah to go) to catch Haaland price rise as I’d been putting it off too long. However, I’m still considering WC so I understand completely.

I think you’ll be fine- waiting gives you the chance to get Arsenal after NU away, navigate possible league cup injuries and, if you still have it, gives you option to TC Haaland against Burnley.

      Whatever you choose, GL!

Can someone answer me this cos I can't get a straight answer off FPL support...

I've used my 2 FTs in GW6 but am considering activating my WC to make wholesale changes. If I did, would I get those 2 FTs 'back' at the start of GW7?

I get that you don't accumulate FTs when activating a WC, I just wonder if those 2 FTs are gone permanently or overwritten by me using it. Thanks.

Can someone please explain what the controversy is regarding Lacroix and Reijnders defcons. Someone on x saying Lacroix should have been awarded defcon pts and Reijnders should not have. Lacroix got 6 defcons and Reijnders 12 so I'm not seeing what is wrong.

Opta updates after the deadline with no Monday night game so Reijnders got 11 and people are upset about a 2 point inconsistency.

FPL won't enter any discussion which is fair enough, but they could just set the reconciliation deadline for the day after if they wanted.

    2. Ausman
      • 3 Years

The Lacroix thing goes back a couple of weeks to when Palace played Villa. He was only credited with 9 defcons when it should have been 10. FPL towers didn't discover the error until after the game had updated and they refused to go back and correct it.

    Petrovic
    Romero Tarkowski Cash (Gudmundsson Munoz)
    Salah Grealish Semenyo Kudus Reijnders
    Haaland (TC) JPedro (Marshall)

I have just done Sanchez to Petrovic, it’s not ideal but the risk of rotation for Sanchez is high, I also managed to release 0.7 so I can do Munoz to Gab next week? Good plan?

    Gtg?

    Bench: Bowen(eve), Caicedo(BHA) or Grealish(WHU)?

Other than TC Haaland or not, the 1st bench choice is my only real decision this week.

      Play Grealish without a doubt.

I can see this is a week to bench a decent 8th attacker so you'll need to decide on that.

I benched Bowen this week, and played Grealish. That backfired massively.

Tough one. Despite defcon, the logical answer is probably the defensive mid, but I’d be keen to play Caicedo against his old club so think I’d bench Bowen (especially if you have Everton defence)
