Suspensions

In Gameweek 5, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.0m) became the first Premier League player to collect four bookings this season.

And so, everyone’s favourite alarmist Fantasy article is back!

Yes, the Suspension Tightrope has been relaunched for the 2025/26 campaign.

In this weekly series, we keep track of which Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players are racking up yellow cards and how close they are to a one-match ban.

We also reveal when the cut-off dates are for suspensions and how many bookings players have to avoid in order to dodge a ban.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

Gameweek 6 ban

The table above is taken from the Football Association website. It details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark. This is an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

ON FOUR + THREE YELLOW CARDS

Gameweek 6 ban

Dewsbury-Hall is the only Premier League player on four cautions. The 4.9%-owned midfielder has to avoid another yellow card in the next 14 Gameweeks to swerve a one-match ban.

There are four others on three bookings, all of them central midfielders. None of them is owned by more than 0.4% of FPL managers.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL notes: Maresca on Sanchez, Jackson scare + Bowen up front

Hugo Ekitike (£8.7m) will be banned in Gameweek 6 after being sent off for two bookable offences in the EFL Cup tie against Southampton on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Casemiro (£5.5m), Tomas Soucek (£5.7m) and Reinildo Mandava (£4.0m) will be suspended for the next one, two and three league matches, respectively.

Mykhailo Mudryk (£5.0m) also remains provisionally suspended by the Football Association.

Someone who isn’t flagged in FPL, despite a Gameweek 5 red card, is Robert Sanchez (£5.0m). The Chelsea goalkeeper was sent off for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity in Gameweek 5, an offence that carries the punishment of a one-match ban. But he’ll serve that suspension in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City, so he’ll be available in Gameweek 6.

Man City fixtures edge it. That Leeds game is away and the 12.30 KO in Gw7.

Kudos edges the stats but is close with Ndiaye.

They might be a bit flatter, you never know. Obviously the squad travels the day before at this level anyway.

I just think it can subdue the crowd sometimes. But fierce derbies are played at this time up and down the country and they can still be lively encounters.

On the Afcon transfers, I assume Salah (and all other African players) will be shipped by all and sundry, will this drive his price down and mean he can be picked up slightly cheaper for second half of season or will they freeze the price knowing it’s for AFCON

It's fpl - they make up the rules regarding player prices on the spot, so your guess is as good as mine!
Price locks would make logical sense

Tbf, they tend to suppress rises rather than price falls.

The red flag and then price lock is to prevent a surge when loads pile back into an injured player, becoming available again.

Can someone with more brains than me tell why every season, at the start, the player prices in the transfers page can be filtered by prices in even 0.5 increments.
But then, for some reason, a couple of weeks in, the filter changes to 0.3 and 0.8 as the selectable options?
Please dont tell me it is because of prices changes, because prices are going up and down all over the place

They are listed in 0.5m ranges, starting with the currently highest priced player for the category chosen.
For All Players and for Midfielders, the currently highest priced player is Salah (14.5m).
For Goalkeepers, it is Donnarumma (5.6m).
For Defenders, it is Cucurella (6.2m).
For Forwards, it is Haaland (14.3m)
For Arsenal, it is Saka (9.8m)
      And so on.

I’m currently on Ekitike with funds in the bank to switch to Isak.

This is probably the right approach.

        We might know more tonight.

If Isak starts with Ekitike benched that might well make Eki the more likely starter on Saturday.

If Isak does start tonight and score a hat trick they'll be a clamour that he's ready for Palace.

We can pick a narrative to suit.

If he sits out it's an indicator he's not ready to start a game yet, but would be a bit odd.

Im on WC and despite Arsenala good fixtures Im struggling to justify any Arsenal players in my WC.

The cheap defcon defenders are better value than the Arsenal defenders. Senesi has got Defcon in every game so far, Anderson 4/5. Id be happy to take 4pts instead of 6 for the 1.5m saving which is also needed if I want both Salah and Haaland. Those cheaper defenders will also pick up some clean sheets as well as their defences are decent.

None of their mids are options because of rotation, Saka always injured and apparently not on pens. Gyokeres too expensive and could also be subject to some rotation and reduced mins when Havertz fit. Arteta loves Havertz and will want to play him.

If you want both Salah and Haaland then it's understandable but things can change very quickly in FPL as we know. Arsenal defence will probably still be the best in the league over the season

Yes they have the best defence but its all about FPL points. As they dont have much defending to do in games their defenders arent picking up the defcon pts. Gabriel has only reached 10 once, Saliba and Califiori haven't at all. Im quite happy to pick up 4pts from the cheap defenders and utilise the price saving.

I'm on a WC too and went with Raya and Timber as some cover for Arsenals fixtures.
Zubimendi is a cheap option and a safe pick minute wise but it just depends on your other mids and who you fancy

You have to take some chance with Arsenal attackers imo. Eze for instance could become the best value pick in the game if he gets the game time.

Noni Madueke expected to be sidelined for around 2 months with knee injury.

That's unlucky tbh, Barnes does look like the perpetual sub.

If he starts tomorrow against Bradford City in the league cup it's probably a bench at the weekend.

He's still dangerous off the bench, perhaps that's why Howe prefers to have that option?

I agree a bit. I think the time for Arsenal players has passed slightly from the start with two ideal home games, two big ones where they keep it tight and OT with a good record another 0-1.

The upcoming games are ones they tend to struggle (relatively)

    1. Gubby-Allen
      • 4 Years
      10 months, 22 days ago

...Fulham, Tottenham, Everton they tend to at least concede.

Obviously Raya is a sensible pick and will keep a few clean sheets but not enough to double up and I would prefer a defender for goals. Gabriel is the most likely to not get rested.

Gyokeres makes sense, but one of Saka, Madueke or Eze won't start each PL game. Rotation will be new for them so there will be guesswork.

What are people's reasons for not having Cucurella in their sides?

He was a cert for me at the start and has done ok for points, as I hoped but is probably the player I need to downgrade (to VDV) to bring in money.

      I'm completely ignoring WB's.

Obviously Cucu, Munoz, Porro, Calafiori and so on are all good picks, but I just think aiming for DEFCON points throughout a season will gain you more points. At the same time more good CBs at 4.0 or 4.5. You'll still have to spend 5.5 or 6.0 to get the good WBs.

That extra money makes it doable to have: Salah, Haaland, Pedro, Semenyo and 1 of Saka/Bruno/Gyokeres

You can save the wildcard for next week.

If hitting the WC you're probably best to decide at the outset to hit some early price rises and avoid any falls.

It doesn't matter so much later on in the season but £0.4m makes a difference now.

Rises also seem to be earlier and later in the week, with falls more frequent.

The fixtures point more towards Romero for me

Anything required here, have 2FT and 0.0 ITB?

    Raya
    Senesi - VdV - Andersen
    Salah - Grealish - Semenyo - Elliott
    Haaland - J.Pedro - Mateta

    Dubravka - Lacroix - KDH - Gundmunson

Probably this. KDH is nailed and Everton scores a lot compared to Villa

Any threat to Gyokeres from the bench? Havertz apparently back in November, Jesus even later. Now Madueke also out for a couple of months (although not a direct competitor).

The game launched just over 2 months ago and Spurs' keepers still don't have the proper kit

I think Saka, Eze and Trossard are higher up in the pecking order.

    For all friends of statistics.

    KDH with 4 yellow cards.

Salah with 4 DC in average.

Still more than Villa's three points so far.

    RMWCT

    Raya-Dubravka
    Gabriel-Senesi-Gvardiol-Burn-Alderete
    Mbeumo-Kudus-Semenyo-Reijnders-Stach
    Gyok-Haaland-Pedro

£1.6m ITB to do Gyok > Isak.

    Downgrade Gvardiol to VdV?

    Cheers

    VDV or Richards on WC?

Was all for Richards but Palace fixtures not as good.

Hard to leave KDH on the bench vs awful West Ham. Enzo the only other potential one but man that is a tough decision

Feel I need to play Enzo, but tough to bench him indeed!
