Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) greatest ever player, Mohamed Salah (£14.4m), has had a slow start to the season.

The Egyptians’ third blank in five Gameweeks came at Chelsea on Saturday.

Entering the international break with just four attacking returns – and only one goal from open play – in seven matches, over 323,000 Fantasy managers have already sold him since Friday’s deadline.

But is Salah’s recent lack of form just a blip, or is there something to worry about?

In this Members article, we take a closer look.

GOAL THREAT

Salah has not offered anywhere near as much goal threat this season.

Seven matches into 2025/26, he’s produced only 12 shots, averaging one every 52.5 minutes. For context, at the same point last season, he had accumulated 22 shots (one every 27.5 minutes), albeit with ‘easier’ fixtures.

His Opta non-penalty expected goals (NPxG) is down, too, from 3.31 to 1.18.

In fact, this is his lowest NPxG tally after Gameweek 7 of all nine of his seasons at Liverpool:

SeasonSalah’s non-pen xG after GW7
2025/261.18
2024/253.31
2023/242.22
2022/232.55
2021/224.24
2020/212.59
2019/203.00
2018/195.14
2017/184.10

There were at least openings against Chelsea on Saturday, however.

Florian Wirtz (£8.1m) set him up perfectly for a big chance early in the second half, while Salah subsequently cut in and shot over the bar a few minutes later.

“What I like is that we brought him many times in the position he would like to be in and I would like him to be in, because he’s shown in his career and since I’m here, that in those positions he can score goals. And I think today he had many opportunities to do what he’s done so often. But he is a human being and it’s not like every chance he gets is always a goal.” – Arne Slot on Mohamed Salah, speaking after Saturday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge

The narrative has also been quite different in Europe – Salah had six shots against Atletico Madrid last month.

I don’t think Isak worth the funds and I’d look at some Chelsea given their great fixture run.

Yeah not keen on Isak given pools form, his form, and fixtures, easy wait and see for five weeks as to which pool assets to go for. That way you can upgrade Xhaka to Caicedo/Enzo etc can’t make my mind up on Kudus!?

Morning all. Which scores more in the next 4 GWs?

    A) Bruno & Gyokeres

Personal preference, but I wouldn't want a pretty much guaranteed 0-pointer (Guiu) on my WC. I'd rather downgrade Enzo to one of the many decent 5.0 mids, Guehi to Richards, maybe even Timber to a DefCon shout and go for a playing fwd

I’m on 352 atm too, Foster over Guiu though and Pedro looks poor in every respect.

      Pope Dub

    Pope/Dubravka
    Calafiori/Timber/Senesi/Richards/Rodon

    A. Enzo, Xhaka, Longstaff, Woltemade

I feel like you've asked this question a bunch of different ways, here's hoping you're closer to the answer you'd like: Sarr, Woltemade, Enzo, and whoever you can fit in for the final dead spot.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I find I often can pick up on what "most people" feel about most positions/players by leafing through the comments a say or two. Ofte saves me asking a question when I can assume the answer (and check with myself if I like that answer or no).

I haven't quite lost faith in JP yet, but seems most everyone else here has. So either him, otherwise I feel Woltemade just over Bowen - mostly cause I want to see Westham/Bowen in action a bit more before committing, but also due to Newcastle's fixtures.

Ah okay, Salah is still learning to play with his new team mates, so please give him time.

Intersting that Gakpo learned much quicker though.

And maybe Frimpong should be on the pitch to support the learning process.

Less and less play go through Salah, especially when Wirtz is on the pitch. Don't know if Frimpong would help with getting Salah more involved.

JP - not doing much, but I think the recent RCs have left him without service. That may change now.
Bowen - is he in form? Will Nuno meddle a lot and make Westham unpredictable? He's a wait and see for me.
Mateta - he has a bunch of quite good chances, but he seems unable to actually get that ball into the back of the net. That may change?

      So yeah. Toss a coin.

I'd pick truffert on WC. I had truffert and sold for senesi and regret it

So do you reckon that truffert and chalobah is better than senesi and richards??

Why no love for liverpool on wc? Next 8 are mun, bre, avl, mci, forest, whu, sun, lee ----> apart from city, probably all in the bottom 10 sides in the league. A dip in form lately but they will click eventually.

I think it's just hard to pick out who'll be getting the points. A lot of potential, but no one getting regular returns.

    A) Woltemade+Xhaka

Once you gave DCL as an option the default instantly goes to A regardlessof players.
