The Matchday 2 deadline for UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) Fantasy season is almost here.

In this article, our expert @Schurrle_FWSL reveals his team selection and captaincy thoughts.

Matchday 1 went far better than I could’ve ever hoped for. I ended the first week on 131 points and 8th in the overall rankings! Matchday 2 is wildcard time and here’s how I’m currently set up.

Matchday 2 Team Reveal

Goalkeeper

Fixture clashes and rotation risks have made finding a reliable goalkeeper pairing tricky this week. I’m currently set on Stina Johannes (5.0m) and Lola Gallardo (5.0m), who don’t clash until Matchday 6 and combine nicely in terms of fixtures. It’s not a perfect setup, but the rotation looks manageable for now.

Defenders

Maya Le Tissier (5.5m) is the only defender who’s survived from my MD1 lineup. Manchester United’s defence continues to prove reliable, and Le Tissier stands out as the best option – combining strong ball recovery numbers with penalty-taking duties.

Millie Bright (5.0m) has played every minute of Chelsea’s season so far and registered 16 ball recoveries in MD1 – the highest of any player. She’s my only Chelsea pick this week, as Bompastor’s rotation policy makes it difficult to predict consistent starters.

Salma Bacha (5.5m) is the first of my Lyon triple-up. She topped Lyon’s defence for ball recoveries last week and already has two assists this season. With a favourable fixture run and an upcoming tie against St. Pölten, who just conceded six to Atlético Madrid, she’s a must-have.

Janou Levels (5.0m) joins Johannes for my Wolfsburg defensive double-up. She currently leads the Bundesliga for xGI among defenders, producing three assists and one goal in just six games. However, I could switch her to Camilla Küver (4.0m) who’s 1.0m cheaper and made 12 ball recoveries in MD1.

My only Thursday defender is Emily Fox (5.0m) from Arsenal. With the Lyon fixture behind them, Arsenal’s schedule looks appealing, and Fox offers a solid route into their backline.

Midfielders

It’s an easy decision to keep Aitana Bonmatí (10.5m) and Alexia Putellas (10.0m) on my wildcard. Putellas was Player of the Match against Bayern, delivering 17 points, while Bonmatí blanked but remains one of the most trustworthy midfielders in the game.

Klara Bühl (8.5m) is the standout Bayern attacker in my opinion, averaging 0.92 xGI/90 in the league this season, with nine goal involvements in seven matches across all competitions.

Mariona Caldentey (8.0m) joins from Arsenal as my second Gunners pick. Her early substitution on Sunday gives me confidence in her minutes this matchday. She’s the most likely midfielder to make way before the deadline, though Jill Roord (7.5m) is also tempting.

Finally, Caroline Weir (5.0m) serves as my budget enabler. The Scot has scored four goals in the past week and looks to have nailed down a spot on the right flank – hopefully continuing her strong form.

Attackers

Lyon are the heaviest favourites in MD2, so it’s no surprise I’ve doubled up on their attack. Melchie Dumornay (6.0m) comes in after scoring a brace and winning Player of the Match against Arsenal. She is joined by Marie-Antoinette Katoto (7.5m) who averaged over 0.5 xG/90 in each of the past three seasons before joining Lyon in the summer.

Completing my wildcard is Clàudia Pina (8.5m), last season’s Champions League top scorer. With Ewa Pajor sidelined, Pina should lead the line after scoring a brace off the bench in MD1. She’s currently averaging over 1.0 xG/90 this season – elite numbers.

Captaincy

For Wednesday, the armband is likely to go to Katoto, Dumornay, or Putellas. If Katoto starts, she could get the nod due to her low ownership and high ceiling – especially with bookmakers expecting Lyon to score five or more goals.

Options for Thursday aren’t as strong, but Bühl would be my preferred captain from the later fixtures.

Final Thoughts

I haven’t locked in a plan for my Limitless chip yet, but Matchday 5 or 6 look the most likely windows. Best of luck to everyone for MD2, may your captain hauls be massive and your differentials deliver!
