Most tuned-in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will by now know that we’ve all received a free transfer top-up ahead of the Gameweek 16 deadline.

This, the Premier League have explained, is to help us deal with the impact of players leaving to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

With participating players having to join up with their national teams a minimum of one week before their first match, the vast majority of affected FPL assets – including Mohamed Salah (£14.0m), Bryan Mbeumo (£8.5m) and Iliman Ndiaye (£6.5m) – should be available for selection in Gameweek 16 before jetting off.

So, what are the rules around using this new batch of free transfers? We have the answers.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I’VE ROLLED TRANSFERS OVER FROM GAMEWEEK 15?

Unfortunately, the rule that we can have a maximum of five free transfers saved up at any one time still applies here.

If, for example, you rolled two going into Gameweek 16, you’d only get a) your normal weekly transfer and b) two additional ones.

DO THEY HAVE TO BE USED ALL THIS WEEK/AT THE SAME TIME?

Thankfully, you don’t have to use all of your free transfers from the AFCON top-up this week. Nor do you have to use them all at the same time.

In fact, you don’t even have to use any of them for Gameweek 16 itself – but again, remember that you then wouldn’t be able to rack up six free transfers for Gameweek 17, due to the cap of five.

But, it’s handy to know that if your team is already fairly well set up to deal with AFCON, there’s no rush to use all of them.

CAN I USE A CHIP WITH MY FIVE FREE TRANSFERS?

It’s an easy “yes” that you can use any/all of your free transfers at the same time as playing your Bench Boost or Triple Captain chip.

As for the Free Hit or Wildcard…

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TRANSFERS IF I FREE HIT IN GAMEWEEK 16?

Just like any other Gameweek, any free transfers you’ve accumulated in the weeks leading up to playing your Free Hit will be retained when you revert back to your original team the following week.

So, if you don’t use any of the five free transfers we’ll all have in Gameweek 16 and instead choose to Free Hit, all five of those free transfers will still be waiting for you in Gameweek 17.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TRANSFERS IF I WILDCARD IN GAMEWEEK 16?

Similarly, if you decide to Wildcard in Gameweek 16, you’ll keep hold of any banked free transfers – i.e., the full top-up of five, in this case – come Gameweek 17, essentially giving you the opportunity for a subsequent “mini-Wildcard” if you so chose.

The main difference between a Free Hit and a Wildcard is of course that the latter’s (unlimited) changes to your FPL squad are permanent.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I USE SOME OF MY FREE TRANSFERS NOW THEN ACTIVATE A CHIP LATER IN THE WEEK?

This is a question we see in the comments section most weeks!

In short, activating a Free Hit or Wildcard – no matter if it’s now or one minute before the deadline – means you’ll not use any of your free transfer allowance for Gameweek 16.

You’ll still have five free transfers to use come Gameweek 17.

I've seen 10+ year veterans asking questions posed in this article rather than just consulting the help/rules/new section on official FPL.. Now we can just provide a link to article instead.

I'm amazed at how many veterans haven't read the actual rules on official FPL. The BPS system is the big one.

Personally I don't need to know how BPS works in detail, rather I just need to identify which players in each team are bonus point magnets based on previous results.

Pep said in the embargoed presser that after the game Foden told him that he "felt unwell today".

You have to watch it for context, or you're likely to misunderstand the point Pep was making.

    3. Brosstan

Its pretty unlikely that the arrest story is Munoz. There are about 5 other PL players it could be and then theres the fact that the player in question might not even be a PL player but could be championship or lower.

If it were Munoz, Glasner would not say "Daniel got arrested last night so hes not involved"... so there is no reason to read anything into Glasner's words either way.

Unless the crime was egregious there isnt really good reason to believe that it will influence game time even if its him. The player is out on bail already, indicating the police dont think he needs to be in custody up until further handling of the case (trial etc). Only way it would influence his play time is if its some kind of crime where the club will feel a need to take a stance against him (like Greenwood case).

I would suggest looking at the number of starts and mins played as one of the reasons why Dias currently has scored more points that O'Reilly/Gvardiol.

O’Reilly is the cheapest of the 3 and has the better underlying per 90 attacking data.

              Include context to the start/mins...

O’Reilly - first choice LB ahead of RAN and RAN will go to AFCON

Gvardiol - missed first 3 league games due to injury, first choice LCB

That's unbelievable! Only bought him on Saturday so if anything I'll benefit from 0.1 extra in the bank. He trolled me big time last season, can't see why it would change for 25/26 🙂

Would you do FH this GW?

    Current team:

    Sanchez
    Timber, ORilley, Livramento, Munoz, Hartman
    Foden, Eze, Mbuemo, Semenyo, Anderson
    Haaland, Woltemade, Thiago

    Or just Munoz--Hincapie?

What’s behind KDH getting 3 goals and 2 assists in the last five weeks, after just 1 of each in the previous 10? Change of tactics? Sheer luck?

Yeah he's in no10. I think some of it has to do with Barry getting a run of games and building an understanding with him. Barry is a workhorse and endlessly runs the channels unselfishly, so that's creating more space for KDH.

But he's also on a purple patch of finishing and converting low xG chances, so not convinced that's sustainable - but at least shows he's a clinical finisher.

He's looking good but I wouldn't be surprised if he scored 2,2,2 in the next 3. It's just so hard to pick mids that aren't on all setpieces + pens or have defcons like Anderson, unless you're going to hold them (and play them) for like 10 weeks so it averages out.

Would you be comfortable playing Wilson for 10+ weeks?

    Petrovic
    Timber Richards Anderson
    Saka Bruno Boomo Semenyo Minteh
    Haaland Thiago

    (Dubravka Senesi Rodon Guiu)
    1.5m & 5FTs

    What transfer to make here?

This the week Mbuemo/Semenyo troll me after I sell one of them for Foden.

    I've never been there before

But is there a decent case for DCL as the 8th attacker atm?

    Reijnders to Rice.

    Mateta to Calvert-Lewin.

It's sort of to fund the first move, because I've only got £0.9m left itb on those transactions.

Until Mbeumo is sold the following week.

Will hold off with European football midweek anyhow.

I would suggest having a look at Farke's tactical setup switching between 433 (DCL benched) and 352 (Nmecha and DCL up top)

    2. BR510
      7 months, 4 days ago

if you need the funds, i would go straight to guiu. His 3 goals were a defensve mistake, pen and lucky deflection leading to tap in. He is scoring but i think hell be the kind of player like KDH for me, who will often be first on your bench. You either start him every week or only start him very rarely and i think if it is the latter i would just bank the 1.3. Sorry for the long response!

I think mbeumo with bournemouth at home outscores foden with palace away so...
    a. mbeumo to foden
    b. mbeumo to palmer/any mid except salah/who?
    c. wait a week and decide next week (assuming he plays v bou)
also have cunha if that helps. Cheers all!

Thinking of trying to get ahead of the curve with Palmer and bringing him in this week. Would be Mateta & Mbeumo > Raul & Palmer.

Leaves me with the below, thoughts:

    Sanchez
    VVD / O'Reilly / Munoz
    saka / Fernandes / Palmer / Minteh
    Haaland / Raul / Thiago

    Dubravka / KDH / Mukiele / Senesi

Palmer doesn't look good yet, and can't play 90. I'd avoid for now. He's not the same player he was, Chelsea have moved on now and he's not the main man anymore.

I'd rather get Neto or even stick with Enzo.

Harry wilson is not only the most underrated player in the league, but also the best mid below 7 million and the fixtures are incredible. Thoughts? Always wondered why he hasnt got a bigger move. Needs to play for a dortmund or napoli

Good little player, but I think he's more of a highlight reel player - scores bangers, but goes missing quite a lot. He's only hit 10 G/A once in 4 seasons, and he'll be 29 before the end of the season, so I think his big move ship has sailed.

Probably biased, but I think De Ligt could be the most underrated player in the league. I was really unsure about signing him, but he's been quietly class, and I think he's up there with one of the best in the league at the minute (low bar after Arsenal's CBs admittedly).

      1. BR510
        7 months, 4 days ago

As a united fan, I could not agree more. Rock solid for us at the back, acts lik a true leader. Best CB in the league bar gabriel this season. let down by his colleagues. In terms of underrated, names that come to mind are trossard, mount, malen, tyrick mitchell etc.

I watched the game last night and even though he scored a great goal, he did not look like a good FPL pick. Great player doesnt always translate into great FPL pick.

There are 10 defenders Id rather own and play 4 or 5 at the back before I played Harry Wilson in my first 11.
