There’s no Erling Haaland in the Manchester City squad for their trip to Leeds United this evening.

Kick-off at Elland Road is at 17:30 GMT.

TEAM NEWS

City say Haaland is “not fully fit” for the final Premier League game of the day.

Putting a bit more flesh on those bones, Pep Guardiola said Haaland picked up the problem in training on Thursday.

“Two days ago, in the last moments of training, he had some problems, a little injury. It’s not a big issue but he’s not ready for today.” – Pep Guardiola on Erling Haaland, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off

Rayan Cherki comes in for the Norwegian in the only change from Gameweek 27.

Jeremy Doku is back on the bench after recovering from injury.

Nico O’Reilly, the second-most-bought player of Gameweek 28, is again in midfield.

As for Leeds, it’s the same team that Daniel Farke sent out for the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa a week ago.

LINE-UPS

Leeds United XI: Darlow, Bogle, Justin, Rodon, Struijk, Gudmundsson, Stach, Ampadu, Gruev, Aaronson, Calvert-Lewin.

Subs: Perri, Bornauw, Bijol, Longstaff, Tanaka, James, Gnonto, Nmecha, Piroe.

Manchester City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Ait Nouri, Rodri, Silva, O’Reilly, Semenyo, Cherki, Marmoush

Subs: Trafford, Reijnders, Stones, Ake, Doku, Nico, Savinho, Khusanov, Foden.

So here's one for half time.
My missus who know little about football just asked me who the best player is, my answer....it's not easily answerable as the best players that most would name like Messi & Ronaldo were noticeable because of their skill and goalscoring. So it got me thinking who could be classed as best player(s) of all time. Just one to put out there that I might include but not noticeable would be Peter Schmeichel, I'm sure there are others

      Thoughts ?

Diego Maradona for me. George Best for many. Both were addicts but Diego still managed to play top level football for longer.

Not clear to me what you're asking. Players who were great without being defined by the goals they scored? Gullit and Matthaus were two of the most complete players, but always overlooked in these discussions.

All the names I've seen so far are all goalscorers or goalscoring midfielders, surely there's an art to a defensive midfielder, defender & goalie ?

        1. Moon Dog
            1 month, 6 days ago

Yeah people always get drawn to the dribblers and goal scorers. Schmeichel doesn't get enough credit.

I'd argue Kante is up there too as one that goes under the radar; his influence on a game was massive in all phases of play. A big part of Leicester's title win, and Chelsea's when he moved there.

Prime Rooney doesn't get enough credit also for his completeness. World class shooting, world class passing, world class work rate. He was like 3 players in one. He'd make a tackle deep around the box, play a great pass to start a counter, and be on the end to finish the move. How many players dominated the Premier League at 16?

Scratching my head wondering why I don't have a player in my team who is basically a defender playing up front for the best attacking team in the league. Sad thing is I had him and sold him a few weeks ago. O'Reilly is coming back in next gameweek. Sod the blank!

I wanted to keep Rogers for Wolves. And was worried Thiago could go on a mad one with the fixtures. I’m not entirely sure I really want Dango for Rogers now either, but not many options except maybe Wilson

The advice was to go with those two as well, I mean it’s not that shocking altogether!
