The new Eliteserien Fantasy season kicks off today, with Gameweek 1 marking the start of another Norwegian top-flight campaign.

Our contributors are here to share their early thoughts ahead of the opening deadline. In this article, they reveal the teams they’re starting the season with, along with their captaincy choices, potential chip strategies, and the players they believe can make the biggest impact in the first round.

NOTES

  • I’m starting the season without any Bodø/Glimt players. They blank in the first two Gameweeks and could end up blanking even more if they beat Sporting CP in the Champions League.
  • When Bodø/Glimt aren’t playing, Zlatko Tripić becomes the obvious captain choice for me. He was last season’s top Fantasy asset, and I see no real reason to go against that.
  • I’m backing both Tromsø wing-backs, Leo Cornic and Alexander Warneryd, to perform well. They have a double in Gameweek 4, and with a third Tromsø defender sitting on my bench, I’m hoping to activate the Park the Bus chip then. It looks like the perfect opportunity, especially as both Cornic and Warneryd could be strong captaincy options even without the chip.
  • Lillestrøm also have a double in Gameweek 4, although they blank in Gameweek 2. I’m starting the season with two Lillestrøm players and can bring in a third with a transfer in Gameweek 4, when we should also get their first confirmed line-up.
  • I’ve included Daniel Karlsbakk even though he blanks in Gameweek 1. He finished as the top scorer in Eliteserien last season and already looks like a captaincy option for Gameweek 3. He’s currently flagged after missing the last match through illness, but we should get a better idea of his condition during today’s friendly.
  • Gameweek 5 looks like the right time to bring in Bodø/Glimt players. I’m prepared to use my Wildcard if necessary, although I currently have 3.0m in the bank. If the rest of my team still looks strong by then, I may simply use free transfers to bring them in.
  • One thing to remember for Gameweek 1: the deadline comes 10 minutes after the first match kicks off. If there’s an early goal, I might make a few last-minute changes before locking my team.

NOTES

  • Many teams will look very similar at the start of the season. Most managers, including myself, are planning around a Park the Bus Gameweek 4 and Wildcard Gameweek 5 strategy. Because of that, the small differences between squads could end up being very important.
  • In goal, I’ve paired Mathias Dyngeland of Brann with Håvar Jenssen of KFUM Oslo. It is still unclear if Håvar Jenssen will be the number one. However, at 4.0m and with a great Gameweek 1 fixture, the risk feels small. Brann also have strong short-term fixtures, so Dyngeland looks like a reliable starter.
  • In defence, my structure is heavily influenced by the Park the Bus Gameweek 4 plan. I’m starting with three Tromsø defenders: Alexander Warneryd, Leo Cornic, and Tobias Guddal. Their opening fixtures are solid. Warneryd and Cornic also offer attacking upside from the wing-back positions.
  • Despite Lillestrøm blanking in Gameweek 2, I’m starting with Ranger in preparation for their Gameweek 4 double. He has attacking threat and looks secure for minutes.
  • My final defensive spot is still open. Right now, I’m leaning towards Sander Sjökvist. He offers plenty of attacking threat and could also be on set pieces. His defence is also projected to perform well early in the season. This position may later change to Denzel De Roevve. That move would give me more flexibility heading into Gameweek 4, especially when deciding which Lillestrøm players to target.
  • In midfield, Zlatko Tripić is an easy pick. He should be in most teams. Emil Breivik also looks very promising. He is now Molde’s captain and talisman. With strong opening fixtures, he looks great value at 7.0m.
  • I will also double up on Brann’s midfield with Felix Horn Myhre and Jón Thorsteinsson. Both should start most weeks. Brann also have favourable early fixtures. Elias Sørensen takes the final midfield spot. He is one of my riskier picks due to minutes. However, the upside makes him worth the gamble.
  • Up front, the options are limited. Møller looks like a solid pick. He has a share of penalties and should be a key forward for Sandefjord this season.
  • Despite blanking in Gameweek 1, Daniel Karlsbakk still appeals. He offers penalties, secure minutes, and proven scoring at this level.
  • Kristian Lonebu completes the forward line. He fits my current team structure well. He should take penalties and has secure minutes. He also faces two newly promoted sides in the first two weeks. That could make him a nice differential. However, he may still change to Håkon Lorentzen.

NOTES

  • Martin Børsheim looks like a solid option in goal thanks to good fixtures between Gameweek 2 and Gameweek 4. He also offers decent save potential while playing behind a fairly reliable defence, and at 5.0m he feels well priced. The backup choice is Håvar Jenssen, who appears to be the most likely 4.0m goalkeeper to start, although I’m not fully convinced he will actually hold the number one spot.
  • At the back, Leo Cornic and Alexander Warneryd are easy inclusions ahead of Tromsø’s double gameweek in Gameweek 4, where I’m planning to use the Park the Bus chip. Because of that strategy, Tobias Guddal also comes into the squad to complete a triple-up on the Tromsø defence.
  • Another player included with Gameweek 4 in mind is Ranger, as Lillestrøm also have a Double Gameweek. Alongside him is Denzel De Roeve, who benefits from strong fixtures up until Gameweek 5, which is when I’m currently planning to activate my Wildcard. De Roeve also brings some attacking upside, which adds to his appeal.
  • In midfield, there’s no getting away from Zlatko Tripić, who starts the season with the captain’s armband. Strong fixtures for Brann make Jón Thorsteinsson and Felix Horn Myhre very attractive options, especially given their multiple routes to points in an attacking side.
  • Another midfielder I like is Emil Breivik, who is expected to play in a more advanced role this year. As Molde’s captain and talisman, he looks capable of delivering strong returns and represents great value at 7.0m.
  • The final midfield spot goes to Elias Sørensen, mainly because of the excellent form he showed at the end of last season and throughout pre-season.
  • Up front, Lehne Olsen comes in with Lillestrøm’s Gameweek 4 double in mind. He leads the line for his side and is also on penalties, which makes him a strong pick.
  • Alongside him is Möller, who has looked very impressive during pre-season. At 6.0m, he stands out as a very appealing budget option.
  • The final forward spot goes to Lorentzen. He enjoyed a strong pre-season and also had a very good campaign last year in the second division.
  • Good luck, everyone!

NOTES

  • I’m captaining Zlatko Tripić as Viking face a favourable away fixture against HamKam. We can also make changes to our teams up to 10 minutes after kick-off in that match, which adds some flexibility. Alongside him, I also have Henrik Falchener in my squad.
  • At the back, I’ve decided to start with a triple Tromsø defence. Leo Cornic, Alexander Warneryd, and Tobias Guddal all feature as they have a double gameweek in Gameweek 4. Planning for that early from Gameweek 1 feels like the right approach.
  • Despite Lillestrøm blanking in Gameweek 2, I’ve still included Lehne Olsen. He scored 22 goals last season and remains one of the most reliable attacking options in the game.
