Cat amongst the pigeons!

There’ll be no Double Gameweek 33 or Blank Gameweek 34 for Arsenal or Newcastle United after the Gunners exited the FA Cup on Saturday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side were dumped out of the cup by Championship side Southampton, who prevailed 2-1 at St Mary’s.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR BLANK GAMEWEEK 34?

This result means that we’ll only get three blanks in Gameweek 34, the last of which will be confirmed tomorrow:

GW34 Premier League fixtureStatusMatch will be postponed if the following occurs:
Brighton v ChelseaBlank
Burnley v Man CityBlank
West Ham v EvertonPossible blankIf West Ham beat Leeds in the FA Cup quarter-finals
Bournemouth v LeedsPossible blankIf Leeds beat West Ham in the FA Cup quarter-finals
Arsenal v NewcastleOn
Liverpool v C PalaceOn
Fulham v Aston VillaOn
Man Utd v BrentfordOn
Sunderland v Nottm ForestOn
Wolves v SpursOn
Number of postponements: 3

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 33?

And, as a consequence, we’ll now only get six teams doubling (not eight as we thought) in Gameweek 33.

The images below show how Double Gameweek 33 will look, depending on who wins in the final FA Cup quarter-final tie on Sunday: West Ham United v Leeds United.

NO MORE DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS FOR ARSENAL THIS SEASON

Saturday’s result at St Mary’s means that Arsenal will not have another Double Gameweek this season. Newcastle won’t get one, either.

CHANGE IN CHIP STRATEGY?

Last chance to use your FPL chips! 2

An Arsenal victory would have surely rubberstamped a Gameweek 32 Wildcard for many FPL managers. Eight teams doubling in Gameweek 33 (including the Premier League’s two best), so a solid Bench Boost in that week. A Free Hit could then have been used to traverse Blank Gameweek 34.

Now, a rocking of the chip strategy boat. Double Gameweek 33 doesn’t look as good, although it’ll still be possible to have 15 ‘doublers’. Probably the biggest change is that many managers will be able to get through Gameweek 34 without a Free Hit, at least with their current squad.

Could a Free Hit in Gameweek 33 now be a viable alternative play? Managers could then Wildcard in Gameweek 35, and Bench Boost in Gameweek 36, when it’s likely that Man City and Crystal Palace will be doubling. There’ll be far fewer ‘doublers’ for a Bench Boost, but it means no selling of Arsenal players on a Gameweek 32 Wildcard now and/or playing them in Gameweek 33 when they only have one fixture (against Man City!).

We’ll be weighing up the pros and cons in a follow-up article over the coming days. A Gameweek 32 Wildcard draft article will also follow.

I've been saying all along to just use your second wildcard when you need it. Double gameweeks are not what they used to be.

Used it in GW24. Rank moved from 35k > 5k over the last 5-6 GWs.

messed around with a couple WC32/BB33/FH34 drafts. if West Ham wins tomorrow:

    Verbruggen (Hermansen)
O'Reilly, Tarkowski, Van Hecke, Mavropanos, Fofana
    Bruno, Semenyo, Palmer, Garner, KDH
    Haaland, Joao Pedro, Haaland

this one looks weak for GW35 so having FTs banked really helps

(pretend the second Haaland up there is Bowen)

      anyway if Leeds wins:

      Verbruggen (Darlow)
O'Reilly, Van Hecke, Senesi (Hill, Fofana)
      Bruno, Semenyo, Palmer, Stach (Tavernier)
      Haaland, Joao Pedro, DCL

much better in GW35 since Leeds plays Burnley but you'll need to save FTs to get Palace players in still

If Leeds win, GW32 doesn't look great.
        Senesi against Arsenal.
        Palmer/Pedro against Chelsea.
        Stach/DCL against Manchester United.

Yes basically either way you’re locked into one really poor week on paper. GW32 for the Leeds draft, GW35 for the West Ham one

I’ve used my bench boost so feels like a good opportunity to keep triple Arsenal as I can hide them for the city game in 33 when poeple on wildcard this week could sell

I think I will try my luck with suboptimal BB with triple CP later. FH33, WC35, BB36 isn't optimal, but it just might work.

Unsurprisingly the Scout team are slacking off and being remiss and not reporting vital Gabriel news tonight.

Not to worry, I will step in and help out. It's not like Gabriel is highly owned or anything ๐Ÿ™„

          Reporter: What about Gabriel?

Arteta: I don't know. I think he felt something. I don't know exactly what it is. We're going to have to assess him. But obviously when a player asks him to be substituted, it’s not good news.

I highly doubt I have more points than you but Gabriel is a massively owned defender and against all odds he no longer doubles. On top of that, the plot thickens and he could be injured. This is all massive.

It's not like he's a £4.5m Fulham defensive midfielder. This is absolutely crucial information for literally millions of FPL managers and there is a vacuum of information from scout.

I get that Arsenal is out of FA Cup and no longer DGW33 and BGW34. But wouldn't WC32 to prep for 6 teams doubling in BB33 still better than WC35 to prep for City and Palace doubling in BB36?

I can navigate BGW34 without any FTs as I only have Haaland, Semenyo, Van Hecke from the DGW33 teams. But still scratching my head as to why FH33/WC35/BB36 is better than WC32/BB33/FH34..

WC 32 is likely 3 City 3 Chelsea 3 Brighton then either 3 West Ham 3 Everton or 3 Bournemouth 3 Leeds
That then is your team till the end of the season and needs 3 FT to bring in Palace for their double. You might not have any Arsenal when they play Burnley for example
You might keep Bruno and decide a game against Chelsea is worth 2 fixtures of someone like Palmer I guess or use more transfers.
I think all the options look pretty suboptimal now.
Maybe if West Ham win I'll still WC 32 as playing GW32 with 3 Chelsea 3 Leeds 3 Bournemouth looks much less than ideal

I thought GW36 was predicted to be the next (smaller) DGW (after GW33) with GW37 FA Cup finalists' fixtures being rescheduled to that week?
If so, the City make-up match vs Crystal Palace should move to GW35 instead.

I don't think Palace have a free midweek in 35 as they are still in Europe so it's 36 or nothing

FA Cup finalists moved to 37 after the cup final last season so you would expect the same to happen again but its not certain. Only complicating factor was the europa league final being midweek 37 but not an issue now with Liverpool being out (due to play Villa in 37) and Forest being out of the FA Cup. 36 and 37 would be the only frees for Palace if they advance in europe and 37 midweek might be needed still for City to rearrange their game vs Bournemouth from 37 weekend which is the FA Cup Final weekend.

Thanks, very helpful. I had pencilled in that the GW37 FA Cup finalists' fixtures would move to GW36, based on an old article which is probably outdated now that the teams still in Europe are out of the FA Cup and vice versa.
I was already wondering why no one else is looking at a BB DGW33 / WC BGW 34 / FH (D)GW36 / BGW37 chip strateyy.

As someone with no WC, I'm strongly considering FH in 33. Otherwise I'm only able to make it to five doublers. Can easily navigate 34 without, but question is, if I can still get value from my BB and TC if I follow this strategy? What do you think?

Definitely don't plan around BB if you don't understand the chip.

No problem in planning around it if you do though.

BB in a dgw is not to give you 15 DGWs it's to give your bench fodder the best chance of getting a good return.

You need to pick a squad with 11 players who you want (many of whom will have DGWs but will also include Bruno and Gabriel (if not injured) who won't) + 4 players you won't usually play who are more likely to do well in a week they play twice.

So the skill is planning for a BB where your BENCH players ha

So i have a full team playing in bgw34 o think.

Should this he the deciding factor in chip strategy?

I could free hit 33. Have full team 34. Wildcard 35 and bb 36

And I have 3fts too. Thanks

I think at the moment the only exciting part about a BB in 33 would be Chelsea and Man City players and you get the Man City bit for GW36 too if we assume Palace game goes there. I don't have BB left so its not a factor for me but if I did and you were really going for it in 33 (15 doublers) then if you have 6 City and Chelsea you are still dragging around 9 guys from Brighton, Burnley, Leeds & Bournemouth or West Ham & Everton and that sounds absolutely horrendous to me.

Still Wildcard this week, BB next and FH GW 34?

          Kelleher
          Gabriel, Thiaw, Senesi
          Bruno F, Rogers, Wilson, Semenyo
          Thiago, Etikite, Pedro

          Dub, Palmer, Hill, Rodon

I’m on the same plan with a similar squad. Arsenal result hurts but still feels the way to go, particularly if you don’t have Haaland

Good outcome Arsenal going out anyway for FPL strategy, got people rethinking the obvious previous plans. Some will still stick, some will twist but at least there will be some variety and it could break the template up for the rest of the season a bit decisions to make around heavily owned guys like Gabriel (if fit), Bruno, Thiago who will not double at any stage

You could still keep 2 from these on bench with BB next week as you only can have max 12 doublers on a BB, right?

You can get 15 doublers still (3x 6 teams doubling whatever todays outcome is) but whether that is a good idea long-term given the teams involved is another matter entirely. Whichever way people dress this up losing Arsenal and to a lesser extent maybe Newcastle from a double is huge.

I’ve already activated my Wildcard, so I think it’s better not to focus too much on the Bench Boost right now. I’m concerned that trying to optimize for it could leave me with a squad that isn’t well-balanced for the rest of the season. What would you guys recommend in this situation?

Don’t forget your transfers remain in the bank despite using your WC. Go all out on DGW players and Bruno F. Smash the BB and be happy!

What's implications if man city make fa cup final?
Will they have 3 doubles (gw33, cry, and gw36?)
When will cry game get put in?

CRY advancing in europe would block off 34 and 35 for that game so only leaves 36 and 37. If City made the cup final which won't be known until 34 then in theory they would be free 35, 36, 37 for the Bournemouth game in 37 but 35 surely comes too soon without a pre-announcement. Basically in the scenario Palace advance then the double for City is 36 but the opponent is less clear depending on which way they moved the two games

Also just noticed Man City's game in 35 is currently on the Monday (1st May Bank Holiday) so that makes a midweek 35 game even more unlikely.
