We recap another one of Sunday’s matches, as we continue with our Double Gameweek 33 Scout Notes.

This time, it’s Aston Villa 4-3 Sunderland.

WATKINS IN DEMAND

Ollie Watkins (£8.6m) is the most-bought player of Blank Gameweek 34 so far.

Sunday’s haul – which included a brace of goals and an assist – took Watkins to eight attacking returns in six matches in all competitions, as he continues to draw extra motivation from his latest England snub.

In a speedy start for the hosts, Watkins nodded in John McGinn’s (£5.3m) chipped delivery, before a second header of the day.

An assist was provided for Morgan Rogers (£7.5m), too, who fired in to end a run of seven Premier League games without a goal.

Villa’s upcoming fixtures add appeal for Watkins and co, with Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley in the next three Gameweeks:

Meanwhile, Sunday’s win puts Villa 10 points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, with only five games left.

MCGINN INFLUENCE

As stated earlier, McGinn created the opener for Watkins.

He almost added a second assist, too, when Amadou Onana’s (£4.9m) powerful header from his corner delivery crashed off the crossbar.

With another four chances created in Gameweek 33, McGinn’s return from injury has given the entire Villa team a lift, as he continues to excel as one of Unai Emery’s three attacking midfielders.

Above: Midfielders sorted by chances created in the last four Gameweeks

Villa created seven ‘big chances’ against Sunderland, and have now scored eight times across their last two matches in all competitions.

WHY PAU MISSED OUT

There was an element of rotation to Unai Emery’s line-up on Sunday, with Tyrone Mings (£4.3m), Ian Maatsen (£4.2m) and Ross Barkley (£4.8m) coming into the side.

Lucas Digne (£4.5m) and Emiliano Buendia (£5.3m) subsequently dropped to the bench.

Pau Torres (£4.3m) missed out completely.

His absence, however, was simply due to rotation.

“It’s a rotation because the last matches Pau [Torres] has played very good. Today I have decided Tyrone Mings because he has quality and, on the bench, we already have a centre-back in Victor Lindelof. But it’s only a rotation issue because Pau has been playing fantastic.”

“We are trying to separate each competition. Of course, at the end the target for both is to be in Europe. One is playing for a title, the other is to play for the top five. It’s been so difficult, but we are using this momentum and we feel good and comfortable.” – Unai Emery on Pau Torres/rotation

LE FEE VALUE

Sunderland remain firmly in the mix for European football next season, and although they faced defeat on Sunday, they impressed for large periods at Villa Park.

The Black Cats reacted positively after falling behind, with 18-year-old Chris Rigg (£4.7m) sweeping home the equaliser, marking his first Premier League goal.

In a frantic finale, substitutes Trai Hume (£4.5m) and Wilson Isidor (£5.0m) also got on the scoresheet.

There were just 58 seconds between Sunderland’s second and third goals, and they very nearly found the winner thereafter, as Habib Diarra (£5.3m) tried to chip ‘keeper Emiliano Martinez (£5.1m) but sent his effort straight at the Argentine shot-stopper.

However, from an attacking perspective, it was a decent performance, with Enzo Le Fee (£4.8m) playing a key role throughout.

He provided the assist for Isidor’s strike, in addition to earning a share of the bonus and defensive contribution (DefCon) points, resulting in a tidy nine-point haul for his small army of owners.

Next up: Nottingham Forest (h) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (a).

ALDERETE INJURY

Omar Alderete (£4.1m) limped off just after the hour mark at Villa Park, a concern for his 6.1% ownership.

Regis Le Bris’ post-match presser unfortunately failed to provide an update, but we should hear from the Frenchman again ahead of Friday’s Blank Gameweek 34 opener.

Alderete was replaced by Dan Ballard (£4.7m), who made his return after missing over a month with a hamstring injury.

Fulham at home rarely concede more than 1 goal. Thinking maybe better to avoid Watkins.

Looks good, but think I would go with Thiago over Mavro, and Timber (if fit) over Porro

Yeah they are decent suggestions. Timber not a bit risky even if he is declared fit after being out?

Why would you have Arsenal players? Also, Wolves are better at home/Spurs worse away so not sure really. Don't fancy Mukiele, I would rather bet on MGW against Sunderland. Similarly, could go Beto/KDH over/against Mavropanos. Overall, I don't like this draft...

You would have zero Arsenal players?

My first draft has KDH, Beto, MGW. I am just trying different strategies to see how they look and get feedback.
I agree though the likes of KDH/Ndiaye can get the DEFCON I want from Mavropanos and backing the attacker to score/assist over a West Ham clean sheet.

I could try something "new" on FH and go against Arsenal, pick just the in form players, etc.

Def is tricky as I don't like the options in general, I'm looking at Lammens for GK, maybe Neco in def, VVD is a lock for sure.

              Salah/Szobozlai?

              Rogers/Wilson?

              Cunha?

              Any of those appeal?

Could be Salah and Cunha along Bruno imo, then ones of Rogers/MGW/KDH/Szobo. In theory you could consider Sarr but not sure how they will approach the game with Europe in mind, you could raise the same for Rogers and MGW tho. Ofc your Xavi could be high risk high reward but not sure I'm willing to go there. As for Wilson, Fulham fully on a beach right now?

That's how it works in NFL. They have to issue medically accurate injury news and get into trouble if it's wrong.

I think the ideal approach this week is to have 11 fit players and probably one bench option, if possible. There is a lot of rotation going on seemingly and the table is so tight that we're not getting 100% of the information ahead of the matches.

I believe Gordon and Alderete probably won't play, so you'll be fielding 9 unless you do a transfer. I don't really like Gordon's fixtures - I have him in my team and I'll probably look at selling him (I have 5FTs in the bank so less stressful for me - it's a free transfer).

I do like Arsenal's fixtures and might switch back to Rice, who seems to have fallen out of favour amongst the top FPL managers. Taking all their set pieces, usually gets defcon, a goal threat and still playing for top of the league. They will still be fighting for the league until the last GW in all likelihood.

Looks strong! Does that leave any money left for your bench? Obvious easy choice is Heaven at United. Nailed to start, decent fixture and only £3.7m. If you have more funds, an angry Harry Maguire with a threat from set pieces may be the better option.

Cunha over Mbeumo is a really good shout. I think many non-Free Hitters will be locked out from less popular players by having planned weeks in advance. I am not free hitting and have Maguire, Fernandes and Mbeumo. I'm a United fan and I would be taking on Cunha for certain.

My only contradictory comment is that Mbeumo is facing his ex team, and he will be out to get revenge having lost away earlier this season.

        It’s Arteta.
        He’s nervous.
        He’s desperate.
He lacks confidence and it shows, he doesn’t carry himself as the manager of league leaders - his body language and “safe” approach in easier games.
Team can feel and then they come out against Bournemouth nervous and can’t string few decent passes together .

Arsenal will probably win it in May

Besides the last game at Palace they have the better run in and Arsenal normally beat Palace away.

Man City have a tricky run with Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Palace and Villa.

Of course they could win them all but you can see them dropping points again.

It's always better for FPL when the title race is on.

It's mad that even before yesterday's match you'd have thought that Arsenal's season has imploded. Bournemouth was their first defeat in 9 matches in the league and it only came as a result of being sandwiched between CL matches. City had a worse record and had been knocked out of Europe, but the entire script was that City were definitely chasing them down and it was inevitable.

I guess maybe if enough people say it then it comes true?

Who would you go with for gw35 and after? Need 2

      A) Thiago

Already got Okafor from Leeds, is double attack vs Burnley a good option or is it better to have only Okafor with Watkins playing at home vs Spurs and Thiago home vs WH?
