After Spain’s superb victory over France on Tuesday, the second FIFA World Cup semi-final sees England face Argentina.

Kick-off at the Atlanta Stadium is at 20:00 BST.

TEAM NEWS

Thomas Tuchel kept us guessing right until the teamsheets dropped, with contrasting reports suggesting anywhere between one and three changes.

It is indeed three alterations, one of which sees Morgan Rogers ($7.2m) make his first start of the knockout rounds in place of Noni Madueke ($6.1m).

It’s all change at full-back, too, with Reece James (£5.2m) and Djed Spence ($4.5m) in for the benched Ezri Konsa (£4.8m) and Nico O’Reilly ($4.7m).

Declan Rice ($7.0m), who was visibly struggling with illness before being taken off at half-time in the quarter-finals, is fit enough to start.

The Argentina team news is a bit more straightforward.

Lionel Scaloni has made only one tweak, bringing in Giuliano Simeone ($5.6m) for Rodrigo De Paul ($5.9m).

Julian Alvarez ($8.6m) once again gets the nod over Lautaro Martinez ($8.8m), while Nicolas Tagliafico ($4.3m) is again preferred to Facundo Medina ($4.0m).

LINE-UPS

England XI: Pickford, James, Stones, Guehi, Spence, Anderson, Rice, Rogers, Bellingham, Gordon, Kane.

Subs: Trafford, D Henderson, O’Reilly, Konsa, Saka, Rashford, Chalobah, Burn, Mainoo, Watkins, Madueke, Eze, Toney.

Argentina XI: E Martinez, Molina, Romero, Lisandro Martinez, Tagliafico, Paredes, Simeone, E Fernandez, Mac Allister, Messi, Alvarez.

Subs: Musso, Rulli, Senesi, Montiel, Barco, Lo Celso, Palacios, Gonzalez, Almada, De Paul, Paz, Otamendi, Lopez, Lautaro Martinez, Medina.

    One small prize is
Idiot content creators who played Max Captain in the semi final get Messi 8 x 2
Exactly the same as everyone else who captained him
So no advantage gained from probably the most powerful chip in the game.

What about idiot me? I managed to get an 8pt max cap of my very own accord, and a grand total of 35 solid points...

Personally.Wildcard is still more powerful, but Max Captain is probably 2nd.

Madueke is not firing. Saka is cleqrly not fit and probably shouldnt have been in the squad with hindsight. Up front, Watkins is no upgrade. England missed Gordon and if Tuchel made 1 mistake tactically, it was to try and see it out.

See if that game had gone to ET... might have been a different story.

          Tbf they were playing Argentina.

Imho, England are a level below France, Spain, Argentina right now. You wouldnt / wont be surprised if one of them win it.
Level 2 - Brazil, Portugal, England, Germany

SF is prob right, still could have been more but Italy, Netherlands, etc and the teams above are prob hurting more.

At the end of the day, Harry doesnt need to aquiesque to Trump and win one of the Infantino cups with the * next to it

They aren’t a very good Argentina side though. They scored against the run of play because we just let the best player ever do what he wants with the ball, just because it worked against Mexico

the hard lesson & watch here is "how Spain played from 1-0" vs "How England did". Plus where were the heroic blockers for Enzo's shot & markers for Lautoro's header (and how did Pickford position & perform for both)

Much as Tuchel did extremely well, maybe Pep with a 6-year contract (morphing toward a squad young enough for that 6-year journey is needed.)

Yeah, as a fellow non English everton fan funnily enough, I think that England still looked like they lacked belief, after scoring they didn't do anything really at all, bringing defensive subs which were arguably not that much of an improvement, after a fantastic first 60 odd minutes they slacked off when they should have scored again to kill the game.

Also think that they seemed to lack creativity second half, felt like the sort of game for a certain Cole Palmer...

You need Oyaball. (Wish i never sold him for Kane last MD!)
This game is flawed since no points are deducted for penalty takers, so load up on a cheap nailed on striker taking penalties. Everyone will have him.
I will add the Eng and Spain strikers starting - hopefully Watkins and Mateta.
          Doubt James will play
Depending on if you have ML's or cash still to play for the only chance left to gain OR is with differentials and a lucky (max(c)

In MLs either I'm too ahead or too behind so that's not a worry
So playing for fun and OR which is not too good so I need to take risks
Pretty sold on triple argentina attack, if i knew who will start among Lautoro and Alvarez i might get Oyarzabal, but don't think I'll know, so i plan to go by all 3 and then hoping Spain doesn't get a penalty
James I'll know before the deadline and he's expensive enough to be replaced

What we witnessed yesterday was one of the most damning managerial world cup performances in history. Tuchel must've been sleepwatching Spain vs. France, where French stars were embarrassinlgy chasing the ball around in circles without getting a sniff. His third anti-football substitution broke the camel's back, as it completely gave up any kind of possibility of control and possession in exchange for hoofing it long approach, which is unsustainable with 40 minutes left against a passionate Argenitian side. It might work for a mid-table club in the Premier League where games feel like workdays, but it was his own terrible assessment of the situation that decided the match.

He was quite critical of the players during the tournament, but I haven't seen him admit his mismanagement cost a fantastic generation of players yet another opportunity. We also saw that leaving some of the X factors players at home was a mistake, self-inflicted trouble at right back with injury prone James and no one to replace him. But evenso with a pool of talent matched in my opinion only by France, instead of locking up the ball with ball-controlling technicians, he dismantled the team so drastically, that with 8 minutes to go not a single build-up was possible anymore - only Pickford longballing it in a patriotic "back to the roots" fashion. It's still unbelievable, Southgate was never as bad.

Coaches with so much experience not knowing the negative effects of losing control of the game. And he kept digging deeper with every substitution. Then he brings on Toney without a single minute in the tournament, when they can't even complete 3 passes at the back to get the ball up front.

They were also playing against Messi and that cross was sheer perfection.

Sometimes you just can’t defend what your opponent does. And nobody whose ever kicked a ball has ever done it better than Messi.

Do you think a well-drilled defensive team like Spain allow them to make that many crosses from the same side? The players didn't have a clue who they were supposed to be picking up, which again is a manager and system problem.

Fantasy Football Scout are predicting that there will be five players priced in double figures next season. Haaland (15m), Bruno (11.5m), Saka (10.5m), Palmer (10.5m), Isak (10.5m). The first two are nailed to be but the other 3 after underperforming last season, really? Saka maybe, but very much doubt there will be more than that.

Isak??? XD Palmer?!? XD so they're just forcing premium prices on players because there aren't any actual premium attacking players besides Haaland, Bruno(unless he continues his WC form) and Saka(but he seems to be very injury-prone now).

Would anyone be surprised if Isak scored 20 goals next season?

Saka and Palmer and Isak should all have price drops!! But seen as we don’t have Salah anymore they have to look at the 100m budget I think or everyone wil just have the same team coz we could afford any team we want

I would've thought Palmer and Isak would've been around the 9.5 mark. 10.5 seems steep for both considering recent form.

Saka only started 25 games and got 12 G/A
      Palmer started 24 and got 11 G/A
      Isak started 8 and got 4 G/A

These are all players capable of putting up 15-20 goal contributions if they stay fit, why wouldn't they be priced as such?

So I had CSS on and John stones went off having conceded one goal. Surely he should get a clean sheet?
How has it worked durning the tournament for subbed players? Does anyone know if they lost their clean sheet if they went off, but the team let a goal in after that? Thanks!

Stones was on the pitch for the winning goal, it was his head the ball went over last before reaching Lautaro Martínez

I do partly blame Tuchel but we've been here before. 1998 - 2016 were basically wilderness years, 2018 onwards we got the mentality right and started hitting regular semi- and finals but we still suffer from the inability to go for the jugular. That's an England problem not a Tuchel one. However, I cannot understand why he didn't stick Watkins, Rashford and Saka on and give them something to think about going the other way - Rash one on one with Romero (on a card) would've been a lot for them to handle.

    Golden Question:

What date is FPL back on?

Now that the dust has settled, it really seems Tuchel and co missed a glorious opportunity to get into the finals. England just forgot to attack in the second half.

Read on X that between 67 and 92 mins, England attempted only 12 passes and 5 completed for possession of 7.5%! Argentina meanwhile attempted 155 passes and 147 success!

Disgraceful performance from this “golden gen”.

England had one excellent half hour v Croatia then its a collection of moments for the rest of the tournament, generally made by its only two world class players. I don't see how Tuchel can stay. his own captain seemed to throw him under the bus in his post match interview by saying holding on is not enough. Bellingham openly disagreeing with him after the mexico game. he didnt trust his squad, a team of prem league superstars we all praise to the hilt when we play FPL, to score another goal and even seemed surprised they scored at all.

TT's interview after the game was interesting, it was almost like he was saying he was annoyed when England scored to go one-up because it ruined his pre match game plan
