Two Spanish head coaches make their first appearances in a Premier League dugout this evening at Craven Cottage.

Alvaro Arbeloa takes charge of Fulham for the first time in a competitive game, while Xabi Alonso does likewise for Chelsea.

Both managers, of course, spent time in charge of Real Madrid last season.

Kick-off in west London is at 20:00 BST.

TEAM NEWS

There are a few surprises on – or missing from – the Chelsea teamsheet.

Moises Caicedo and Marco Palestra were both expected to be in the Blues’ starting XI this evening but miss out.

Their absences sound precautionary:

Those two are among four changes from Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly XI against Real Sociedad.

Wesley Fofana is injured and Pedro Neto drops to the bench.

Josh Acheampong, Malo Gusto, Jorell Hato and Romeo Lavia come into the line-up.

Arbeloa goes with the same team he sent out in the Cottagers’ final warm-up match of the summer.

Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios get their Premier League debuts.

LINE-UPS

Chelsea XI: Sanchez, Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill, Gusto, Lavia, James, Hato, Palmer, Joao Pedro, Rogers.

Subs: Penders, Chavarria, Barco, Fernandez, Neto, Gittens, Estevao, Welbeck, Quenda.

Fulham XI: Leno, Castagne, Cuenca, Bassey, Robinson, King, Berge, Iwobi, Bobb, Garcia, Palacios

Subs: Lecomte, De Gougerolles, Tete, Reed, Charles, Sessegnon, Kevin, Smith Rowe, Muniz.

At first, accusing myself because want Odegaard 6.5 besides Tzolis but cant afford him.

Never know Sangare 5.5 will deliver better points.

      Thanks Allah.

      Amazing score.

Catching one or two of the hauls was huge this week. (De Cuyper, Hinshelwood, Sangare, Kayode etc...)

What are your thoughts on Gvardiol as a footballer?

How do you rate his quality compared to Guehi & Dias?

Yeah, I might be putting too much weight on Dias being named club captain.

He's had a ton of injuries over the last couple of years. Not really been the same as a result. Great guy and terrific leader though.

        1. I dont like him and we miss Pepe in our national team

            Pepe is a legend. Iconic.

I am shocked you don't like Dias though.

            1. He's a good speaker and personality wise ok . But on the pitch not that much

well Palmer and (P)edro saved my bacon and then some there

never seen fulham so fluid in attack and offensive. silva was great but rigid. loved it. king/garcia have the potential to be amazing enablers. king especially, wow he ran that game.

cheers, looks very good. put himself about, was impressed with fitness level, didnt look like he needed to come off for muniz at any point. good link up play. held off lacroix at times with long balls etc, very nice

can't judge him too soon but initial signs solid, if he has that poachers instinct in the box like he did for castagne's rebound shot he will score quite a few. i mean i was kinda shocked at just how expansive fulham played today, full backs so high and wide, esp robbo and if the team can just gel abit and get used to it i imagine we'll be sending lots of crosses in for garcia to feed on.

My potential problems are Mbeumo, Wirtz, Isak, Bruno.

What is the better strategy to sort these out in the coming weeks and maximise.

    1) FH3, Mbeumo -> Rogers in GW4 and Bruno and Isak to 5.5 and Haaland in GW5.
    2) -4 Bruno, Gabriel and Isak to O'Reilly, Ampadu and Haaland (TC) in GW3, Mbeumo to Palmer (c) in 4

What's your original plan? Assess Bruno and Mbeumo after the next game, would not plan for a hit at this stage.

Probably stick to the original plan and no hits early
I could do Wirtz and Mbeumo to Sangarry and a Palmer for a hit. But not going to. If the .5 I have to spare starts to disappear I might be tempted but still think I hold and stick to Palmer or Rogers only come in for 4

    Calafiori - Muharemovic - Maguire
Tzolis - Bruno - Mbuemo - Le Fee
    J.Pedro - Haaland - DCL

You are just dealing with not being very lucky in one gameweek the team looks good and you have Bruno and Mbeumbo cash to spread in a week or 2. All good stick to the plan and roll for sure.
Muha could have got you more too so a good pick.
Probably play DCL. I thought Ballard was an amazing pick for the season. Wouldn’t get rid just yet see how the defence looks when a few are back from injury.

Hi mate! Cheers for that, indeed I am just reacting to not being overly lucky in just ONE gameweek, I should know better than this haha! The Bruno and Mbeumo cash can definitely be moved around in a few GW’s, I’ll certainly roll.
Ballard had really high hopes for, but again the sample size is 1 week, I’ll settle him first on the bench for now, team will remain the same and Bruno for captain most likely 😉

Thiago scored 22 goals last season and averaged 4.96 pts per 90.

I can't see it. Forwards face an uphill battle in the current format.

yeah true, its tough for strikers nowadays. i guess the only thing going for isak would be open play goals give the chance of bonus, the reduction in pen bps probably cost thiago a good 8-10 points in bonus last season.

but yeah, more i think about isak now, the more i struggle to want to keep hold of him for long now 😐

im not liking the look of strikers this season again. outside of pedro and haaland if you want him for captaincy. wish they let us play 3-6-1 . maybe i'll just look at 4-5-1 long term this season

We need a squad of 544 to reflect the current football meta of 433 (or 4231).

553 is based off an archaic 442, but only single striker systems are used these days, so the forward pool is lacking.

Maybe that is their goal with defcon. Give an extra route to points for CMs, so they can move wingers out of the midfield pool and into the forwards. Would bring better balance to the game.

Love the recent changes to FPL though. The UI and QOL stuff like the drop-down box above the team to show different metrics like price changes, plus the links in player bios to team news etc. But the forwards badly need a revamp.

completely agree with everything you say, put it perfectly

but yeah do wish fpl would move with the times in this regard. wingers being forwards would be a great move. esp now with defcon like you say. i just cant pick 5 mids, its so tough. i want so many 😀

Not the way he played in pre season or first game. If the old Isak comes back it would still be a maybe without pens. Kinda a non option at the price if no pens confirmed. Maybe it was just away at Newcastle thing that he didn’t take it - who knows.

  13. Anyone watched the full Arsenal game, surely Tzolis can't match Saka, though he had more shots/kp.

Watched the whole game and he is an unbelievable player. He could in theory match Saka not like any of them play 90 every game anyway. And he does not need to match Saka at 3 mil cheaper.

i think corners and pens long term will widen the gap, whether 3mil worth gap not sure. key for me in this tussle is madueke/eze, like does madueke get subbed on at lw when saka is fully fit and saka wins the minutes battle. but then if tzolis is performing at that level who knows

Szob took every left side corner not sure on right side as I don’t see many if any and all free kicks I think.
On Arsenal hard to say as they have a crazy squad. I would also say apart from Tzolis being a baller he looks a fitness machine too. Doesn’t mean he will get 90 but not like it would be a problem for him.

      2. Moon Dog

Tzolis is meant to be a set piece specialist. I wonder if he can take right-footed set pieces from Rice eventually.

Saka having to compete with Gyokores for pens, and also compete with Madueke for mins, does dampen his appeal though.

I dunno, there's so many amazing midfield options in FPL right now, I think tripling on Arsenal defence may be the best use of the 3 Arsenal slots. No other defence can get close to Arsenal's, yet there are other great midfield options that might compete with the value of Tzolis, Odegaard, and Saka.
