There was another switch from Crystal Palace to Nottingham Forest this week as Daniel Munoz (£5.4m) rejoined old boss Oliver Glasner at the Tricky Trees.

A transfer fee worth up to £22 million has captured the Colombian.

So, can the 30-year-old continue – and perhaps even improve – his previous Fantasy Premier League (FPL) wing-back output? And what does it mean for the existing Forest wing-backs?

We’ll attempt to answer those questions below.

CAREER SO FAR

A late bloomer who didn’t make his professional debut until aged 20 at Aguilas Doradas, his move to Europe took another four years, when departing Atletico Nacional for Genk in 2020.

STARTS (SUB)GOALSASSISTSFPL POINTS
2025/26Crystal PalacePremier League29 (0)44136
2024/25Crystal PalacePremier League37 (0)46142
2023/24Crystal PalacePremier League16 (0)0456
2023/24GenkPro League16 (1)51–
2022/23GenkPro League30 (0)77–

Halfway through the 2023/24 campaign, Munoz joined Crystal Palace, going on to win two trophies (three, if the Community Shield counts).

A ‘Player of the Match’ FA Cup final performance included assisting Eberechi Eze‘s (£6.4m) glorious winner.

Munoz has 51 international caps to his name, where two of his five goals occurred at the recent World Cup.

SERIOUS ATTACKING THREAT

World Cup Fantasy: Magnificent Munoz, Diaz unlucky + Rodriguez early sub 1

Of course, FPL managers are already very aware of such attacking capabilities.

Four assists in his initial half-season were very impressive, but the subsequent two campaigns established Munoz as one of the game’s most forward-thinking defenders.

For example, he ended 2024/25 as this position’s best for expected goals (xG, 4.93) and shots on target (18, below), while also joint-fourth for chances created (46). It featured a 10-match spell of two goals, three assists, five clean sheets and 61 points.

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams 1

Munoz then had a storming start to 2025/26. By accumulating six attacking returns, seven clean sheets and a couple of 14-pointers, he was FPL’s leading defender (89 points) by the end of Gameweek 14 (below).

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams 2

A six-week knee injury halted things, but he still ended as the joint-second-best at the back for big chances created (eight) and third for expected goal involvement (xGI, 6.41).

ANY DEFCON POTENTIAL?

 1

The above image shows the top FPL full-backs/wing-backs for defensive contribution points (DefCon) in 2025/26.

Munoz was one of the leaders, and it should be noted that he nabbed those 14 DefCon points from just 29 starts. Of those run-outs, three were ended at half-time or earlier.

So, we’re effectively looking at a 26.9% success rate (seven from 26).

Not centre-half levels, but still a nice little extra on top of the goals, assists and clean sheets.

WHERE MUNOZ FITS IN AT FOREST

FPL Gameweek 26 round-up: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus points + stats 7

A pretty straightforward one, this.

The Forest boss has stuck with pretty much the same 3-4-2-1 set-up he used in south London.

So, Munoz will be the right wing-back in Glasner’s system, carrying on their successful relationship at Palace.

WILL HE START REGULARLY?

FPL notes: Gakpo latest, Glasner on Munoz 3

If we’re going off what went on at Palace, then very likely!

Munoz was fit/not suspended for 80 Premier League matchdays under Glasner – and he started every single one of those games.

Not only did Glasner never bench him in the Premier League but Munoz also started every single FA Cup and EFL Cup tie under the Austrian! His only substitute appearance came in the UEFA Conference League, and even that was off the back of a shoulder injury.

Bear in mind that Forest have no European involvement this season, and are already out of the EFL Cup. Fatigue-led rotation, then, likely won’t be an issue – not that it was before!

WILLIAMS + AINA UNCERTAINTY

So, then, there’s now some serious uncertainty to the minutes of Neco Williams (£5.0m) and Ola Aina (£4.5m).

On the surface, Aina is now the biggest rotation risk. It is he who has been playing at right wing-back in the opening two Gameweeks, with Williams on the opposite flank.

Williams has also proven his attacking worth at wing-back.

Last season, he was the league’s number one defender for attempts (46) and shots on target (19, below), alongside being fourth for both crosses (142) and chances created (36).

Best £5.0m defenders for FPL 2026/27 1

Plus, he already has a 2026/27 assist to his name; fouled for Saturday’s penalty at Anfield.

It should be mentioned, however, that Aina has even more experience of left-back/wing-back duties than Williams, so the Nigerian could cover on both flanks.

SHOULD MUNOZ HIMSELF BE AN FPL TARGET?

It’s certainly an advantage that Munoz and Glasner know each other well.

Our free-to-use Fixture Ticker likes four of Forest’s next six matches, and the pre-season ‘jump on, jump off’ article picked out particular runs between Gameweeks 5 to 9 and then Gameweeks 13 to 16.

Munoz joining Forest could have an impact on Williams

It’s probably worth seeing how Forest set up against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the next two Gameweeks, which will give us a better indication of how Glasner plans to juggle Williams, Aina and Munoz.

Thereafter, and with Munoz potentially dropping in price again by mid-September, he’s certainly worth a consideration – especially as Forest’s major DefCon magnets at centre-half are £5.5m.

    Afternoon all,

My team doesn’t look nice this week with triple Sunderland, double Arsenal defence vs Chelsea and rodon injured. I used two frees to do the Bruno / Haaland swap but i think now I am leaning towards deciding between the below, what do you think:

    A) play free hit. Would then mean either wildcard next week, or use 2 transfer to get in palmer
    B) wildcard this week and sort everything, however will be playing with Chelsea vs Arsenal still.

    Current team
    Verbruggen
    White / Calafiori / Ballard
Semenyo / tzolis / le fee / mbuemo
    Haaland / Isak / Thiago

    Lammens / Hume / slater / rodon

Currently have Rodon out injured, rest of the defence is:

Calafiori (CHE, H), Maguire (eve, A), Hume (bre, A) with MvE (mci, A) on the bench

Play the first 3 and save FT, or ship Rodon for Hall and bench one?

Hi guys, I have 0.5m in the bank and Rodon sitting on my bench at 4.5m (likely to go down before the next GW starts), I've missed the Hall price rise but also don't want to get priced out of another 5m defender if I wait. I've already done Mbeumo > Cherki as my FT, is it too early to take a -4 to swap Rodon out?

Seems daft taking a -4 so early, but also don't want to end up priced out of a different move.

    1. Ze_Austin
      1 month, 16 days ago

      There are good 4.5s

Or you could end up with a combined move soon for Hall & Konsa, balancing things out

      Wouldn't take that hit

      1. Kodap
        1 month, 16 days ago

Fair point, I don't want to take the hit and my team is setup nicely. Rodon last on the bench so don't need him anyway, just hope he doesn't drop before deadline.. then swap out for another 4.5!

      I want to hold Ndiaye

So do you knee jerk out Tzolis first and be bolder with Ndiaye, potentially with Sangare as the cover for a no show?

They don't pay £65m to bench Ndiaye, but he's obviously lost penalties.

Wouldn't you expect Munoz to be straight in on the right hand side, banging away for Forest against Spurs?

He's a consistent pick and match fit.

I can go from Aina or Mitchell to him this week, with funds banked.

    Who would you ditch first?

    1. F4L
      1 month, 16 days ago

thats tough, i dont think munoz had much of a pre-season and not used in gw2 so still good chance aina starts next gw imo

could you afford to just bench aina/mitchell this gw? like if you want munoz long term part of me thinks just wait until he's got that first start

but if want to go for it i guess you have to sell aina, just cant see williams being the one who drops out. at least mitchell has a nice fixture next gw

surprised to see a few downbeat on szobo:

5 open play goals (4 pens)
    10 assists
    defcon threshold hit 9 times
    28 bonus
+3 for cs over yellow card

comes to around 200 points for 7 mil, doesnt that just scream elite season keeper material? if isak steps up to take the next pen then fair enough a discussion can be had but yeah. maybe boring but FTs so precious

FPL is a slow game if you want to avoid hits.

Maybe just start everyone on 2 or 3 free transfers?

      1. F4L
        1 month, 16 days ago

        hmm fair

tbh off the top of my head i cant remember how often he played as a 10 last season as opposed an 8, i imagine with barcola his time as a 10 will be limited. but still 2 free kick goals (i think it was 3 last season), and then just 3 real open play goals, it doesnt feel too much to ask.

the assists might be too much. its just the complete monopoly hes had on set pieces to start the season, 4-5 assists should come from those, "fpl" assists anyways. but even knock a few points off, 1 goal, 1-2 assists some bonus etc, he still lands on 185-ish points, north of 180 and pushing 5 ppg. i guess it fair to say you're unlikely to win fpl holding players like szobo all season long but if your goals are abit less ambitious, he's definitely not going to be the reason you dont reach them

Settled on my WC team. BB 5 planned and was one of the main reason to WC.

    Hornicek - Sels
    Calafiori - Muharemovic - Williams - Konsa - Dedic
    Palmer - Cherki - Foden - Szoboszlai - Sangare
    Haaland - Pedro - Wissa

    Rough plans -

    Bruno plan - Sels + Williams + Szoboszlai + Cherki ➡ Bruno + Slater + Egan + 4m GK

(May delay this to 8 if Cherki looks good for GW 7 vs IPS or Bruno looks off)

    Saka plan - Sels + Williams + Cherki ➡ Saka + Egan + 4m GK

(Won’t do if as mentioned above)

Barcola + Isak plan - Can get with just 2 FTs. Not worried. Moreover, Barcola needs to settle and Isak looks off and so does Pool.

For my plans to fall in place, I just need to SAVE FTs.

Just missing Bruno for eve,MCI.ful. No big haul potential I suppose.

Contingencies in place for every eventuality and a deep squad with DEFCON guys and glue guys like Wissa, Sangare, Konsa, Muha.

Add to that triple City attack their home games, double Chelsea attack and double ARS defence.

I think I have everything covered. And, I get to play BB on the best GW for it imo.

What could go wrong ? Thoughts? 😀

The Premier League’s financial superiority just goes deeper every year.

Look at the 3 promoted clubs:

    Ipswich spent more than Barcelona.

Hull spent more than Juve and PSG.

Coventry City spent more than the whole of the Eredivisie put together. It’s not sustainable.

Thinking going tripe attack. Wouldn't bench palmer or jpedro. Rogers maybe depending on how many chelsea attackers you already have.

    Hi all,

Which Hull defender and Ipswich defender I should take in my team?

    Thanks!

    What to do with Tzolis...

Already used my 1FT to get in Wissa

Anything worth a -4 to get rid of Tzolis?

Budget up to 8.5m.... MGW / Barcola / Cherki / Foden..

    Team:

    Raya
    Jacquet - Maguire - White
    Semenyo - Mbuemo - Rogers - Tzolis
    Wissa - Haaland - J.Pedro

    Steele -- Hume - Slater - Davis

is reece james as a CM (i guess the more offensive CM of the 2?), a boost for him or makes him not worth considering? i guess defcon will rarely be got but that's not really his thing anyways

How many are doing Haaland triple this week? Or best to save for Palmer v Hull?

Thanks lads, think I'll go with Haaland but risk he might be subbed early with the CL starting next week?

Always a risk, but probably even greater risk after CL has started

    Kinsky Verbruggen
    Calafiori Gvardiol Shaw* 4.0* 4.0
Bruno Mbeumo Tzolis* Schade Le Fée*
    Haaland Pedro DCL

What plan to follow, as transfers depend on that:

    A. Bruno, Haaland, Palmer for GW4

    B. Bruno, Haaland, Rogers for GW4

    C. Commit to a WC4

If go for A, then will likely need to go without Cherki and do Mbeumo > Palmer next week.
