UCL Fantasy 2026/27: Matchday 1 clean sheet odds

As the opening round of UCL Fantasy nears, we take a look at the Matchday 1 clean sheet odds to identify which teams have the strongest defensive prospects.

These odds come from our brand-new UCL Fantasy Toolkit!

TOP PROJECTED CLEAN SHEET ODDS: MATCHDAY 1

SUMMARY

PSG are comfortably out in front for clean-sheet potential in Matchday 1. The back-to-back European champions have, according to the bookies, a 71% chance of a shutout at home to Slovan Bratislava. That puts them 16 percentage points clear of every other side.

Slovan had to come through three qualifying rounds to get here, and needed extra-time to squeak past Celje in the play-off.

Manchester United rank second on 55%, despite the iffy domestic defensive form. They host Champions League newcomers Sabah, the rank outsiders for the tournament.

Barcelona complete the top three on 50%, ahead of their home meeting with Feyenoord. Barca have the best defensive record in La Liga so far this season, with just two goals conceded in four games.

This means only three teams have been handed at least a 50% chance of keeping a clean sheet in Matchday 1.

There is then a cluster of sides just below them. Stuttgart sit fourth on 44% for the visit of Viking, while Bayern Munich and PSV are level on 42%. Bayern may seem a little low but remember that Bodo/Glimt made it to the round of 16 last season, and were close to progession to the quarter-finals.

Eight of the nine highest-ranked teams are playing at home. Arsenal are the exception, with a 40% chance of shutting out Napoli despite playing away from home. Any other team bar the stingy Gunners, and they’d be nowhere near this list for a fixture at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

AEK Athens and Liverpool follow on 38%, with Manchester City and Real Madrid level on 36% in 10th place.

    Hmm I'm considering WC'ing this week. I'm on a -4 already and this draft really tempts me.

    It's only a few players different to my current team but they are all meaningful upgrades in midfield.

    Fernandes, Gakpo, Barnes vs Szoboszlai, Tzolis, Gross. Plus it eliminates the hit I had to pay. Downside is ofc losing the WC and having a somewhat weak third defense spot. Could just go Muharemovic set and forget as well though.

      Just monitor how Foden's, Konsa's + Cala's xMins are looking after UCL. Foden would be my first priority sell (i like the KDH move), but you could very easily just play Konsa or Sangare over him if a start looks unlikely. Konsa vs SUN is probably better than Dewsbury-Hall vs TOT this week anyway.

          I don’t get all the shade getting thrown at the TC this last week. The weekly forecast on this very website doesn’t have a single player over eight points in any gameweek and Haaland got nine. Ya, it’s not amazing, but nowhere near a disaster either.

          If he had scored once more, he would have returned 13 points. That’s four more. Like… I hope Palmer crushes it next week, or Halland in GW 7, but if not, there will be a lot of people eating crow.

      Haaland scoring 9 points as TC is objectively a good result - he’s just moved the goalposts on what a good captain score looks like, especially after how consistently great he was at the World Cup.

      I can understand why people are disappointed though. Greed is a funny thing.

      Prefer a 8.5 combo with set and forget starting GK (Verbruggen/Steele). I think being able to upgrade an outfield player with the 0.5 saved is more valuable than being able to rotate your GKs (and get frustrated when you rotate wrong every other GW).

      Upgrading a 4.0m to 4.5m def or a 4.5m to 5.0m mid will arguably gain you more points with the rotation and coverage opportunities it creates

    Thoughts on this move:

    Gabriel and Foden —> [Hall/Thaiw/Van Hecke or De Ven/ Milenkovic] and Palmer

    Can’t make up my mind on a defender. With Forest I expect Glaser to figure it out and be defensively sound. Hall and Dedic have attacking threat but Newcastle’s midfield simply isn’t that great and are easy to play through despite good fixtures. Spurs are at home three in the next four. Not keen on DeCuyper because their fixtures are gonna be turning and it feels like points changing.

      My thoughts on this are you are extremely confused like the vast majority on here.
      Your suggestions lack clarity and reasoning and you are abandoning players that could do better than the ones bringing in.

        Yes, that’s why I said I can’t make up my mind with the defenders bc there are a lot of factors at play.

        Gabriel will do better than all the replacements but I’m downgrading to use the value to upgrade Foden. I have Konsa and Cali. Foden is a rotation risk + Europe so Palmer is a notable updated.

            Sure Gab is better than all the rest, but he is terrible value. The question isn’t whether he is the best and will score the most points. I don’t think you will get much debate on that point. Rather, the question is whether you can score more actual points by redeploying the funds someplace else.

            Look, you have to dump Foden. Who knows if he will even play. Palmer has amazing fixtures, and a great one next week. If you don’t want to pay up, go Rogers and be done.

            If you want Palmer, you need to sell Gab down. Newcastle are top for fixtures going forward, and it’s a coin flip between Hall and Thaiw. Honestly, defenders have so much unpredictability week to week and so little long term variance, you are better off just playing the fixtures. If you buy a membership for the site and check the RMT tool (no, I am not shill), you will see there is very little variance over a 4-6 week period for defenders outside of the top 3-4 players.

              And you expressed my thoughts on Gab really well. Those funds can be deployed to a good place.

      Gabriel potentially overpriced now with Califiori having equal or greater attacking threat and Konsa coming in as a likely nailed 4.4m starter in league's best defence. There is merit in downgrading him, however I don't see the rush unless you urgently need to free up funds for another transfer. Waiting allows you to see how teams playing in Europe are likely to rotate, along with assessing the value of someone like Muñoz at Forest.

      Foden always had UCL rotation risk, but when he plays he is one of the best mid options. I would definitely wait and see how City's UCL game goes before deciding what to do with Foden.

      There is also merit in keeping them both for another GW, both have double digit scoring potential. For that reason I would lean towards keeping them (for now) and save the transfers.

        Foden is a constant risk. Palmer isn’t and a captain option. There isn’t a rush but I’m thinking longer term and see the merits of having Palmer over him. I do agree that Foden looks so dangerous and has missed some good opportunities but unfortunately he isn’t a guaranteed starter..which is rule number 1 in FPL. I did Shaw to Konsa with one of three free transfers.

        I can definitely wait this week since price changes seem stable. I feel hard pressed to lose Gab..he’s actually a differential.

        Sorry, but I think all city midfielders are sell at this point. Between Foden, Cherki, Semenyo, Anderson, Enzo, Doku and Ndiyae, how in the world do you predict who will play? I’m probably missing someone, but that’s seven world class midfielders. It’s worse than pep roulette.

    Decided to wildcard on a whim yesterday while bored at my desk - ranked around 2.7m which isn't disastrous but have fallen well behind in my ML and feel some changes are needed.
    Do we think the new team is an improvement and did the old team warrant a wildcard?

    Something I am weighing up with the new team is swapping one of Rogers/Gakpo to Odegaard/Barnes, which allows me to upgrade one of the 4.0 defenders to Hall giving me 4 playable defenders. However I am leaning towards leaving as is - would love to hear any thoughts

      I wouldn’t double up on Brighton defense. Their fixtures aren’t really great in the longer term.

      I like swapping Gakpo to Ode and upgrading elsewhere. Isak is enough for Pool.

      Cherki is a great player but i do feel like he is a rotation risk / not a 90 min man (see some comments above).

        Thanks mate, appreciate the insight and I don't disagree with any of your points.

        I am keen on a 8.5m GK combo and Brighton seems like the best option for this. De Cuyper I am treating as a cheap route into Brighton attack that can also get clean sheet points, if there any indications he will play in a less advanced role he'll be moved on.

        Cherki passes the eye test better than anyone in the league, reluctant to drop despite rotation risk.

        Gakpo could easily be a points chasing move, so I like what you've suggested there too.

        Chelsea attack is a bit of an enigma this season, hedging my bets and picking all 3 while fixtures are decent seems an ok move. Understand it could easily go pear-shaped but a risk I'm happy to take, at least for now

      think the lesson from this past week is you can't trust Cherki or Foden unless one of them is injured. the ultra-cheap bench is fine but it means you really need nailed-on picks.

      will echo others in saying double BHA defense is probably too much. i would probably drop Isak down to a 6m and use those funds to upgrade one of those two + the bench, but if you're really set on him i like your proposed moves. don't think you (or anyone else) will really want 2x Liverpool or 3x Chelsea beyond this week.

        Had Saka at first, then I thought Isak, and triple arse at the back. But I doubt konsa lasts long in reality.

      not sure on Isak. huge upside of course but i think we're just getting to the point where we'll actually learn what his mins look like while Liverpool juggle UCL. already got one early sub this past weekend. should smash it this week but fixtures after are iffy for a bit.

      always risk in tripling up on one side's attack but i get why everyone's going there with the Chelsea trio.

      pretty much all 5 of your defenders could feasibly be rotated in any given week, but for now the backline is great.

      overall i think it's a very strong draft, just playing devil's advocate!

    this would be my team after using 3/3 FTs this week:

    Raya (Verb)
    Cala, Konsa, JPVH (Ajer, Diop)
    Bruno, Rogers, Szobo, Sangare (Slater)
    Haaland, JP (c), DCL

    this would be my preferred WC4 team if i went there:

    Martinez (4.0)
    Cala, Konsa, JPVH (Thiaw, Egan)
    Palmer (c), Saka, Szobo, Gross (Dewsbury-Hall)
    Haaland, JP, Wissa

    think it's worth it? 95% sure my existing team does not need a WC on its face -- and i'm not sure if i actually think Palmer is a better captain than Pedro -- but the second team sets up real well long term and should get me to 5 FTs pretty easily. is that enough to pull the trigger? currently ~50k fwiw.

      Save the WC.

      GK better in first team, haven't gotten an indication that Chelsea defence is any good yet
      DEF same starters either way
      MID Palmer/Saka/Gross only marginally better combo than Bruno/Rogers/Sanagare, not enough to warrant a WC
      FWD DCL/Wissa 50/50 for me

      Additionally Palmer vs JP captain seems 50/50 for me too, so personally that wouldn't be a huge factor in the decision
