Fantasy EFL continues with Gameweek 5, a week in which four Championship clubs play twice.

Ahead of the deadline, our experts reveal their latest teams and talk through their captaincy decisions and plans for the small Double Gameweek.

NOTES

• I’ve gone for George Wickens in goal, primarily to target save points and that opening fixture against Preston North End. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lincoln come away with a clean sheet there either.
• In defence, I’m backing Jake Cooper and Rob Dickie for their clearance numbers and goal threat. Dickie, in particular, also has a decent chance of picking up a clean sheet across Bristol City’s two matches. In an ideal world, I’d also find room for Radek Vitek or Callum Brittain, but I’ve already used my two Middlesbrough slots in midfield and attack.
• My midfield currently contains three set-piece takers. First up is Jensen Metcalfe, whose red card has now been rescinded despite the game still showing him as suspended. I really like this pick because of his assist potential from corners, while I can also see him collecting a few interceptions this week. Sebastian Berhalter offers similar routes to points with the added threat he carries from open play. His minutes could be less secure, though, so Aidan Morris is another option I’m considering. I’ve also gone for Scott Twine. I’m not a huge fan of the pick, but he has the ability to produce a massive haul out of nowhere in this game, so it feels strange not to back him during a Double Gameweek.
• Up front, Will Lankshear takes the captaincy. There isn’t much debate here for me, as I think he’s comfortably the best pick and captain this week.
• My two club picks are currently Bristol City and Middlesbrough. Boro are an easy lock, but the second slot feels much weaker. If there were a single-Gameweek side with an away fixture I really liked, I might have considered them instead. For now, though, I’m backing Bristol City on the chance that they can pick up returns from both matches.

NOTES

• In goal, I’ve gone for Radek Vitek. Not many Middlesbrough players look completely nailed given their squad depth, and I definitely want a route into their defence considering the fixtures and their defensive quality. Boro’s defenders don’t tend to pick up many defensive contribution points either, so Vitek feels like the safest option.
• Covariance worked really well for me last week with a double West Brom defence returning two clean sheets, so I’m going for it again with a Bristol City defensive double-up. Rob Dickie is excellent for clearances and carries goal threat from set pieces, while Rio Cardines is the player delivering the ball to him from both corners. I don’t particularly like the Southampton fixture, but you aren’t going to get two great fixtures from any of the doubling sides outside of Boro. The home meeting with Lincoln looks much more appealing, so I’m happy to back the double-up.
• My first midfielder is Charlie Lakin. You might wonder why I haven’t gone for a full team of Double Gameweek players, but Lincoln are the only other doubling side and I don’t particularly like their midfield options. Lakin is in excellent form and has a very appealing home fixture against Accrington Stanley, making him my differential this week.
• I’ve opted for covariance again in attack, this time with two Millwall players. Former Bradford City midfielder Jenson Metcalfe comes in first. He looks comfortably nailed, regularly picks up interceptions and also takes corners. He could easily go overlooked because Fantasy EFL still shows him as suspended, despite his red card being rescinded.
• My first forward is the second part of that Millwall attacking double-up, Camiel Neghli. With Femi Azeez gone, Neghli is now the main man in this side. He looks nailed for 90 minutes, takes corners from one side and also has an outside chance of penalties.
• Finally, Will Lankshear takes the last forward spot and the captaincy. I expect him to be very highly owned this week, and rightly so. For me, he’s simply too good to leave out with Middlesbrough hosting Norwich and Millwall.
• My club picks are Middlesbrough and Bristol City. There isn’t much to say about the first slot this week: pick Boro. The second feels much more like a coin toss between the other three doubling sides, so I’ve landed on Bristol City.

• It’s a tricky week with not many options, so I’m playing it risky with a double Middlesbrough attack. Sebastian Berhalter looks like an excellent differential, and I’m willing to take the risk on him starting twice, given his share of set pieces. Will Lankshear completes the Boro double-up and takes the captaincy.
• There is plenty of upside in Scott Twine and Lorent Tolaj, too, so I may as well put all my eggs in one basket and back Bristol City as one of my club picks as well.
• In defence, I’m going for a covariance play with Millwall centre-backs Caleb Taylor and Jake Cooper. Both offer good bonus potential and goal threat. A clean sheet would be a dream and I don’t necessarily expect one, but if Millwall do manage it, the double-up could provide a huge gain. Taylor takes the vice-captaincy.
• In goal, I’ve gone with George Wickens. Lincoln could give him opportunities for save points, although I’m not particularly keen on the pick. With so few standout options this week, I want to maximise the Double Gameweek where possible.
• My club picks are Middlesbrough and Bristol City for now. I could still switch things around and chase more upside with Millwall or Lincoln, who both play twice away from home, but I’ll wait for the line-ups before making any final changes.

NOTES

• I’ve chosen Radek Vitek because Middlesbrough have the best defence this week and probably the highest chance of keeping a clean sheet.
• At the back, Caleb Taylor comes in after showing good form for Millwall. Across the Double Gameweek, I think we could be looking at around 10–15 points from him. Rob Dickie and Cian Elder complete my three-man defence.
• In midfield, Scott Twine speaks for himself this week. He’s one of the best players in the Championship and will be joined by Adam Reach. Reach makes the team after averaging 5.8 points, while he also has a very good chance of picking up bonus points.
• Up front, it has to be Will Lankshear. Mr “right position, right time” has been in very good scoring form, and hopefully, he can continue that across Middlesbrough’s two fixtures.
• My club picks are Middlesbrough and Bristol City. In my opinion, they are the two best teams among the Double Gameweek sides this week.
