Fantasy EFL 9 Gameweek

NOTES

  • Burnley face the two weakest attacks on my board this week, with Watford away followed by Charlton at home. Charlton also rank bottom of the division for chances created, making Max Weiß (8.16 xPts) an appealing goalkeeper option. He’s the cheapest route into a defence that my model gives a 53% chance of keeping at least one clean sheet across the double.
  • I’m doubling up on Burnley’s defence with Anel Ahmedhodžić (9.33 xPts). Both fixtures offer clean-sheet potential, while his defensive contributions provide another route to points. At 0% ownership, he’s a differential I’m happy to take a chance on.
  • West Ham have the best pair of fixtures on my board, hosting QPR before travelling to Lincoln. That brings Konstantinos Mavropanos (11.33 xPts) firmly into consideration. His goal threat from set pieces is excellent for a centre-back, while West Ham have a 51% chance of keeping at least one clean sheet across the double.
  • My interception pick of the week is Pelle Mattsson (12.09 xPts). With Brooks and Touré injured, the Norwich midfielder should have plenty of defensive work to do. He ranks fourth for projected interceptions on my model, with Swansea away and Southampton at home offering two opportunities to collect points.
  • Southampton’s fixtures against Portsmouth and Norwich look promising, making Finn Azaz (15.09 xPts) one of my favourite midfield picks. He ranks second among midfielders on my board, with his involvement in goals and chance creation offering plenty of upside.
  • At just 1.8% ownership, Jack Moylan (12.77 xPts) provides a differential route into Cardiff’s attack. They rank third for attacking potential on my board, with Blackburn away and Watford at home. Moylan regularly gets into advanced positions and produces excellent shot volume for a midfielder.
  • Captaincy goes to Jarrod Bowen (17.85 xPts), who tops my projections this week. West Ham’s fixtures against QPR and Lincoln look excellent, while Bowen offers goals, assists, key passes and shots. He’s involved in so much of their attacking play that I’m not considering anyone else.
  • West Ham United are my standout club pick. Combining Bowen, Mavropanos and the club selection gives me a quadruple-up on the best fixtures of the round, with attacking returns and clean sheets both in play.
  • Burnley are my bigger gamble. I’m backing their goalkeeper, centre-back and club pick despite their poor form and position at the bottom of the table. This is purely a fixtures play, with Watford and Charlton ranking as the two weakest attacks on my board. The betting market also makes Burnley favourites in both matches.
  • As always, my team is subject to change once the starting line-ups are confirmed.

NOTES

  • With Lincoln at home this week, Michael Cooper looks like a solid goalkeeper option. Portsmouth away will be a tougher test, but I’m backing him to pick up some decent points across the two fixtures.
  • West Ham’s double against QPR and Lincoln makes Konstantinos Mavropanos an interesting defensive pick. He offers attacking threat alongside his clean-sheet potential, so hopefully he can collect some bonus points too.
  • I’m also backing Caleb Taylor, with Millwall facing Preston and Swansea. Both matches offer opportunities for defensive returns, and I’m hoping he can pick up some bonus points along the way.
  • Amario Cozier-Duberry is another player I’m keeping an eye on. Wolves at home looks challenging, but Stoke away gives him another chance to make an impact. Hopefully, he can get involved in the attacking returns.
  • Two fixtures against Cardiff and Bristol Rovers make Kristi Montgomery an appealing option. I like having players with a double Gameweek, and an attacking return across those matches could make him a great pick.
  • There’s also potential for Liam Millar, who faces West Brom away and Preston at home. Both fixtures offer opportunities, and I’m hoping he can get forward and contribute some attacking returns.
  • Captaincy goes to Jarrod Bowen, who feels like a must-have this week. West Ham face QPR at home and Lincoln away, giving him two excellent opportunities to deliver. I’m backing him to be one of my highest scorers.
  • West Ham United are my first club pick. Their home fixture against QPR looks particularly promising, and I’m confident they can get the job done.
  • Millwall complete my club selections, with Preston and Swansea providing two opportunities to collect points. I’m hoping they can make the most of that double Gameweek.

NOTES

  • Defence looks pretty weak this week, so I’ve gone for three teams with at least one favourable fixture and two defenders who offer plenty of goal threat. Southampton have been brilliant at home, and I expect them to be right up for the derby against Portsmouth. That makes Keven Schlotterbeck an appealing option, and I’m backing him to deliver.
  • In midfield, I’ve gone with the popular Finn Azaz pick alongside Amario Cozier-Duberry. The latter offers a nice route into Middlesbrough’s attack without having to use a valuable forward slot on Will Lankshear. He could be a useful differential this week, and I’m expecting a decent return.
  • Up front, Jarrod Bowen is the obvious pick and takes the captaincy. His fixtures and attacking involvement make that a pretty straightforward decision.
  • Alongside him, I’ve taken a chance on Youcef Salech. There are some concerns over his fitness, but he’s getting into so many good positions and creating plenty of chances for himself. He’s too good a player not to start putting more of them away, so I’m backing him to score a few this week. That’s why I’ve gone with Salech over Lankshear.
  • West Ham United are an easy choice for my first club pick, but the second is much tougher. I’ve currently got Cardiff City as a placeholder, although that could easily change before the deadline. Southampton are the main alternative I’m considering.
