A weekend brace in Belgium’s 5-0 victory over Cyprus, followed by the opener in this evening’s clash with Israel, has continued Marouane Fellaini’s recent renaissance. Having struggled to make an impact since arriving at Old Trafford at the start of last season, the former Everton man is belatedly winning over the Old Trafford faithful as Louis van Gaal’s side close in on a top four finish.

With Robin van Persie sidelined through injury since Gameweek 27, Van Gaal’s decision to move to 4-3-3 and hand Fellaini a spot on the left of midfield has helped United register four successive wins, including back-to-back victories over top-four rivals Spurs and Liverpool in the last couple of Gameweeks. Whilst Juan Mata’s brace at Anfield has persuaded over 28,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to snap up his services, Fellaini – despite serving up a 13-point haul in his previous home appearance – has made his way into just 4,000 new teams.

As United prepare for the weekend visit of Villa, we take a look at Fellaini’s displays in the four match-winning streak without the stricken Van Persie. Delving into the data, we assess his performances against his previous numbers and also compare them to his team-mates and fellow midfielders alike.

Well done to Andros Townsend for getting your annual screamer of a goal....sadly it meant wasting about 1000 good chances in between.

His passing is just so inconsistent though. And that's putting it kindly. He needs a strong manager to reign him in if he's ever going to develop into the world beater he could be. I think The Head would sort him out. But not sure it'd be worth the risk.

    Observations from tonight's game:

Italy were just strolling about, not even half pace. England were putting in maximum effort. Does not bode well for Euro 2016 if we can't beat a third string Italian outfit.

Barkley is massively overhyped and naive. Gives the ball away far too often by just being greedy.

Jagielka was easily the MOTM. Awesome performance.

Some of Townsend's shots do actually hit the back of the net, and not row Z.

Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking that Andros Townsend is a bog average player and shouldn't be in the England squad.

The guy seriously struggles for minutes with Tottenham and flatters to deceive when he gets a game. He has achieved literally nothing in his club career yet has still been called up to almost every squad in the past 18 months or so. However he pulls on an England shirt, credit where its due, turns in a decent performance scores a goal and guarantees himself another 10 caps.

We won't make any serious progress if players of his calibre continue to play for our national team

He's young and has potential. Sticking with players like Milner, Johnson and Baines is the problem, along with playing players like Jones in midfield. We're going nowhere with a manager like this.

Milner I think is a solid squad player who can be kept for years to come, he is versatile and can do a job for you. Agreed regarding Johnson and Baines, we have young talent in fullback areas who can establish themselves for years to come.

      Kane

      Carrick Henderson
      Bertrand Jagielka Smalling Clyne
      Hart

Bench: Forster, Sturridge, Young, Cahill, Shaw, Lallana, Wilshere.

      Leaving Walcott out 😮

Best option for us with current side is to play teams on the break where possible. We have never been able to match the big boys in a technical game in my lifetime as i was made in 1966. likes of townsend and barkley need an end product to go with their obvious ability running with the ball. kane may provide the cutting edge missing since shearer. we will always be hairy and last ditch at the back but it might be a fun ride if roy lets it happen

Twenty years ago or more doesn't count. RvP and Suarez are the only real top quality hitmen to come out of there in ages while they've pumped out many a player like Kuyt and that Brazilian dude Boro broke their transfer record on.

    Sterling Rooney Welbeck
    Carrick Henderson
    Bertrand Jagielka Smalling Clyne

      Sturridge/Kane
      Ox, Rooney, Sterling
      Carrick, Henderson
      Shaw, Jags, Smalling, Clyne.

Milner/Welbeck in as wingers depending on opposition. Defence stills looks very weak.

Not so sure it will be that easy with Hendo more advanced and not constantly doing double the workload to cover Stevie's mistakes
