Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives a little later than usual this Friday afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With 44% of the votes cast, Harry Kane is the runaway leader this week as Spurs prepare to entertain Villa at the Lane. The youngster has produced eight goals and two assists in his six home appearances in 2015, with three sets of double-figures (18, 12, 17) included over that run. Bearing in mind that Villa have a single clean sheet in 12 league outings, Kane owners will be expecting a return to form after he blanked in two of the last three Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard is next in line as Chelsea make their way to London neighbours QPR. The Belgian has scored in five of his last six away appearances and squares up to a defence that’s conceded at least twice in all but one of the last seven matches. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that Hazard is currently backed by just 17% of the voters.

Arsenal pair Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have been selected by 8% and 5% respectively for the trip to Burnley. The Clarets defence have kept out City and Spurs in their last two home matches and have certainly tightened up, though face a tough task to keep Giroud at bay – the Frenchman has scored in eight of his last nine league starts. Sanchez, meanwhile, has already served up a 16-point haul against the Clarets this season and rolls up to Turf Moor on the back of a 13-point return against Liverpool last weekend as the Gunners strengthen their claim for a top two finish.

Four goals in his last six outings earns Bafetimbi Gomis 4% backing in this week’s Poll. The Swansea forward has belatedly found his form but faces a resurgent Everton side at the Liberty, with the Toffees conceding just once in their previous three fixtures.

Sergio Aguero and Loic Remy have been selected by just 3% ahead of trips to United and QPR respectively. Given that United have only conceded more than one goal on just two occasions from Gameweek 6 onwards, Aguero faces a tough task to arrest a run of form which has seen him return a single assist in the last five Gameweeks. Remy’s back-to-back winners for Chelsea should earn him a start in Diego Costa’s absence as the league leaders travel to a QPR side that has lost each of their last five at Loftus Road and boasts the worst defensive record in the top-flight.

Further down, the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Glenn Murray could well emerge as real differentials for those willing to gamble. Sturridge has collected just 2% of votes ahead of Monday’s home encounter with a Newcastle side that has managed two clean sheets in their last 19 league encounters. Murray’s five goals and two assists in the last five suggests he’s one to watch as Palace seek a fifth win in six away to struggling Sunderland.

So if you were to get a Liverpool player in early, i.e. this week... would you rather Coutinho or Hendo? (Or Sterling for that matter... but I think I'm going to aim to get the former two.)

Struggling to see my move this week lads. Have 2FT and 1.0m in the bank.

    Current team:

    Panti
    Bertrand - Alderweireld - Rose
    Hazard - Silva - Sanchez - Eriksen
    Aguero - Kane - Austin

    Krul - Boyd - PVA - Naughton

    Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

Rid of kun and fill your boots with the profit!! Remy has to be in with a shout with DGW in the horizon and that's frees up funds to bolster defence or mid.

Nothing in it between Kane/Hazard (C). Kane slightly more likely to score, but Hazard gets more points when he does, so Hazard (C) for me. Also think QPR will go for goals at home to Chelsea and there will be goals galore in that one.

QPR won't play into Chelsea's hands by all out attack. Chelsea will be pragmatic and will tighten up with Costa out. Anything could happen but I would expect quite a tight game.

Villa, on the other hand, will go for it against Spurs. Sherwood knows no other way. That's why I favour Kane myself.

Keep switching Haz and Kane. Looks like I am gonna go Kane. Villa are a shambles, qpr will be very motivated and those matches are always close.

Basically, if spurs score, it will be Kane
If Chelsea score it will be hazard or Remy in my opinion, so if you have both then captain the guy you know will get all the points for their team, rather than the unknown.

The superstitious in me is anticipating Giroud blanking.. he's had a great run but it can't go on forever.

Same with Kane. This should be an interesting fixture, but I can't see either out performing Hazard.

Sanchez on the other hand, he is the real worry.

Without him on my team, I have to go Hazard (C) .. and take consolation in the fact that my rivals probably won't think to C Sanchez.. though I'm guessing they will captain Kane..

      Gw32- Austin to remy
Gw33 save- play with no gk
Gw34- foster to mignolet eriksen to Henderson and kane to Sturridge for a -4

      Panti/foster

      Terry/Clyne/alderweireld/wollscheid/Hutton

      Hazard/silva/siggy/eriksen/boyd

      Aguero/kane/Austin

Would it be crazy to not get a 3rd Chelsea player and go Sturridge over Remy? Would still give me 6 DGW Players - 2 Che, 3 'pool and a fox

No.. I've considered this option too. Depends on Remy vs Sturridge form this weekend, I guess.

As long as Sturridge can hold up injury free for a few weeks this might be an option

Do you think City will revert to the lone Striker formula in the Derby i.e. Silva behind Kun?

Probably. That could make it a good week for both of them.

I am expecting quite a few goals in that game, maybe 3-2, 2-2, 2-3, something like that.

Burnley's performance in their last two home games has been impressive.
Beat Man City 1-0. Drew 0-0 with Spurs, Kane didn't get a sniff.

Not an easy game for Arsenal. It may not be the goalfest some are anticipating.

Mental to start Wally over one of Puncheon Silva or Austin?

Worthwhile punt imo. But worried about a 1 pointer.

          You keeping Austin?

I can't afford remy with my FT. Thinking gomis?

People bringing Remy for Austin, look at next week fixture against United, Drogba could well start in this big game thanks to his experience. Plus Remy ain't assured 90min against QPR.
Murray has more guaranteed minutes and plays against Sunderland and WBA.

120mins Remy is what we're looking at(even if he starts, unless Chelsea don't score and Drogba comes on AS a second strikter) Maybe 90min only (60+30)

It's only you and a couple of people on here who think Drogba will start . The press think Remy is first choice and this is his chance to step up . Mourinho has even praised Remy recently and says he owes him minutes .

I posted about this the other day. It is an 'open secret' at Chelsea that Drogba has an ongoing ankle problem that makes it hard for him to play 90 minutes. The chance of him starting any game is slim.
